Our prayers go out to all. We can only imagine the pain and suffering that people are going thru. I feel it's time to show the looters who's in charge and come down with the big hammer! No more *****footing around. If your taking food stuff's thats ok, but if your taking hard goods(tv's computer's, robbing people etc.) your delt with by all means available. You shoot at the rescuers, then you are hunted down and you are shot dead. Why are we allowing a few bad seeds to hold-up the rescue efforts? Evil only succeeds when good lets it. Now for better things. we all have stuff in our shops that we won't use or need. Get some things and put them in the classifieds. Let people buy them by donating the money to the Red Cross. Once again, our prayers to all. Tom Rouch

People here in Europe are with you. Anybody on our flying field discussed the topic in the last days. You are not alone, even if we can not help in a direct way. But our prayers are with you. Never thought that problems of this kind/size would be possible in the promised land. But it seems we have to learn that nature rules anything in her own way.

RE: Katrina

Yeah it's very true and very friggen sad to boot!! It pisses me off to no end how we dont hestitate one second to go overseas to help a foreign country in crisis!! Yet we are now facing OUR second biggest crisis in recent years!! Katrina is the worse natural disaster since 1909 they confirmed!!The military is taking its good time doing their job in OUR country!! They have bodies laying in benchs,in wheelchairs ,laying out in the open instead of atlest being covered up and away so kids & other eyes don't have to see it !!It bothers me too how so many people are so selfish and dont think of others enough to even help when they should, yet if their tables were reversed they sure would expect it.Then you got morons stealing crap they cant even use & looting TV's ??What the hell are you gonna do with a TV when you arent gonna have power again for 2-3 months.People are too cheap too give to the red cross-even 5 bucks or just something simple to show they care about others!!
It really got to me big time early this morning when some jackass at 7-11 was talking inside about how he aint giving nothing cause hes paying more in gas now cause of THOSE people! He says let everyone else give cause he doesn't think they deserve anything!!It took all I had to not knock his stupid ***** thru the brick wall [:@]Ok I'm done ranting,I needed to vent over the subject a bit,I feel a little better now

It is good to vent amongst friends that understands you than to go out and take action you would regret.

I'm not a fighter, well back in my younger years I was, but that was a long time ago.I'm just frustrated over how things are developing and the actions of selfish people and what they do for their own personal gain. This has never been so clear to me until this disaster. This whole ordeal hits home for me even moreso cause I have family in Louisana and we dont know whether my aunt & kids are ok or not
I have had to stop reading/watching the news cause its getting too depressing and gets much worse by the minute

have a good one,Steve

RE: Katrina

Fentressjets: a note extracted from the news :

"The United Nations has taken the lead in coordinating natural disaster relief around the world for the past five decades. But its focus has been mainly on poor nations.

U.N. assistance was first offered to Washington on Wednesday by Emergency Relief Coordinator Jan Egeland, who led the global aid effort after December's Indian Ocean tsunami.

But U.S. officials, while thanking the world body for its offer, did not request any assistance at that time.

More recently, however, U.S. officials have signaled they were open to all offers as dozens of foreign governments lined up to pledge assistance."

help from other countries is on the way, but unfortunately, not as fast as it could been done.

BR, Enrique

Perhaps this is not the appropriate time to tell our American friends of their supposed failings in terms of protection of the environment, there will be time for recriminations afterwards. All my sypathies go to any of you who have suffered loss in this tragedy.

RE: Katrina

The government response is being criticized everywhere, but no one seems to realize the extent of the dmage. The focus has been primarily on New Orleans, but that is a small picture. The damage extends 200 miles or more from the coast line. There is no fuel avaialbe south of I-20. Little to no grocery supplies either according to my family. Some hospitals south of I-20 are operating on emergency power and generators. The guardsmen most likely fled the carnage prior to the hurricane hit and the roads were pretty much impassable for one or two days. Cell phones towers and lines are down so there is little to no communications. A massive relief effort takes time. Remember initally right after the hurricane hit, the news folks were down on Bourbon Street at a party, no one knew what was coming at that time. I sympathize with all the parties here.

BTW John we are not the only ones with little to no ecologic sense. MOst of the world's scientists seem to agree that this is anatural cycle of events, though I lend credence to the fact that most of these storms serve to dissapate heat. The world is a crowded place and therefore prone to heat up. There will be solutions out there we just have to get everyone to accept them.

America has to recognize that it is only one world and that all climatic changes are also effected by this extensive use of Oil, gas and generating CO².
<snip>
Please don't misunderstand my posting, its not to blame anybody and again I feel really sorry for all who are affected, but do pressure to your government to rethink about americas environment politic as it will affect everybody on the world in short term.
Ah yes .. generating CO2 ... don't humans do that when they exhale ? In which case we'd have a whole lot less CO2 if you guys could pressure your fellow German - the pope - to drop this whole anti-contraception stance that contributes so substantially to unintended overpopulation ! :) i.e. we can always find ways of blaming each other for global warming, so before people start throwing stones, they should perhaps consider whether they may be living in a glass house.

YMMV, which is fine.

Well, I've been holding off contributing for a day or two, 'til my company got organized enough to set up a "matching contribution" deal (They'll double-up whatever I contribute through the company) ... and they just announced that it's now active - so it's time for me to go put a chunk of money where my big mouth is.

Later,
Gordon

PS: in the weeks after the tsunami, the US and European countries got heavily criticized by various Muslim countries who alledged that we were being "miserly only because the majority of victims were muslim" (even though we actually gave a krap-load more money than any of the oil-rich muslim countries ever did)... so I'm kinda curious to know - amid the various countries offering help to the US right now, what has been offered to the Katina victims by those muslim countries ? (That's not a rhetorical question BTW - I'd genuinely like to know the answer)

Well I have good news to report: My house escaped virtually undamaged. A 10' piece of ridge vent blew down and a section of my fence. Not even a broken window pane. I am indeed very lucky. The other end of town though has major damage. I am indeed very lucky.

Mike, I am glad for you, that you have minimal damage to your property. I have a cousin 15 mi or so from Baloxi. He was in Florida when the storm hit and when he got back home his place was OK. Water was 1 foot from his door and all the trees were down, but not a one of them hit his new house. No damage at all but no power or Gas so he went back to Florida. He moved to Mississippi from Florida to get away from Hurricanes! Said he lost three houses in Florida. Lucky!

RE: Katrina

Mike, that's great news. Sammy's cousin lives in Turtle Creek. He went home to get some clothes yesterday and got us a recon pass. We came out like you did: 4 siding panels gone, 1 fence down, 1 fence buckled, one garage door buckled outwardels lots of trees down but none hit the house, no water damage. We are VERY lucky. Most in Slidell are wiped out. We are still here in Memphis, did you go home? Don't know when we can head back. No water, no power, no gas, etc. Looting is now the worry.

Feeling lucky in Memphis......

Hi Mark,

Glad to hear you are OK, it is a national tragedy. Looks like the good guys made it down to N.O. today....

My sister is a school principal in Memphis, they are signing up new students from the affected areas, the word is to sign them up no questions asked. Can't remember how old yours are, pretty little as I remember....I can ask her what the procedure is, if you need help in that regard.

Best wishes to you and everyone else down there, it looks like it is going to be a real test of our country,

Mark, Jan and I just made a donation to relief fund through the AMERICAN RED CROSS and I am calling on all other modelers to reach into their pockets; since we are surely not the poorest people in our county or we would not have our hobby which we share. And to our FRIENDS around the world THANK YOU for your thoughts, prayers, donations, and support! Gordon, you went personal which I tried to do not! Remember this is not my mother tongue I am talking! So if I Pi$$ed you, sorry wasn't my intention.

Think about this super president how he invents several wars but isn' capable to help its own people now!
It is a fact that america is the only industrial country who did not sign the kyotos protocol and that american cars use the most gas worldwide! We on the other hand , have the most strongest environment regulations in the world, beeing the third biggest industrial nation, followed by the scandinavian countries with their regulations. So don't tell me we should watch first what we are doing!
We are not affected at the moment with hurricanes. We can have a nice beer and eat some chips while watching tv and wonder how politicians can be that much stupid not to see that they are responsible for the global warming! So its your country and do whatever you want, but don't cry if it will getting worse and don't say you have not known. We have or experience with this sentence here in germany!

I feel for all affected citizen and hope that they will go to normal conditions as soon as possible. Germany wants to help!

F-22,
I don't really mean this in a personal way but who has been filling your head this bunch of crap...sorry to see you look to government for answers. Government and it's bureaucracies are typically the last to create any real solutions for anything. Where in the world did you get the idea government can change the climate or weather?

I'm sure even you fella's over in Germany have figured out like we have here in the States when it get's cold we get inside and do something to create heat in our buildings! When it get's hot outside we've figured out how to get inside and cool the air in our buildings! Try as we might even with the help of every government on earth we haven't been able to change the temperature of the air outside!

I hate to admit it but this idea of Global Warming may have some merit! Although not even close to the way the Socialist / liberal mind set sees it.

Whatever global warming there is most certainly is not caused nor can it be changed by mankind! Baring some catastrophic collision or the Sun burning out first.... given time... the earth's orbit will consistently decrease in distance from our Sun, similar to the way Satellites fall out of orbit. This decrease in distance from our sun will certainly increase the earth's relative temperature. At any rate anything human's do most certainly is a non-event in the overall picture of mother earth with-in our solar system.

It is also just as likely mother earth will become in-hospitable for us on the cold side of the temperature scale sooner than being too hot. One way or the other change in Apogee and Perigee of earths orbit will cause the earth to become in-hospitable for human's long before the REAL warm up.

Where in the world did anyone get the idea humans have anything to do with controlling what happens relative to our earth's temperature? The only way we can change what happens to us with-in this solar system is for us to leave it. I assure you we earth-linings will never be able to do that by holding back on advancement in technologies with such dimwitted ideas as the Kyoto protocol contains.

Oh.... and more to the point thanks, but no thanks we will take care of problems here in the States, and for that matter other places around the world as we see fit... just like we've had to do before.
Proud American,
Lee H. DeMary

RE: Katrina

I see that my words were missunderstoud and edited them!
Never said I hate someone nor did I tried to do a personal attack! Except that everybnody in the world knows that the fish smells from the head!

But Silver 182 you gave exactly the explanation where some problems are from, of course human beeings are not responsible what is happening to the earth's climatic condition. It's all because of the tumbling way the earth is taking around the sun....... of course! What did you name it? Dude??

I would recommend that you read some scientist articles to be a bit more informed that in the last 120 years of "industrial revolution" only one part is responsible for the effects we have today, or is cutting away the brasilian rain forrest also a "solar system" effect? Dieing of the corals? 16°C in December? 16°C in Juli?

Hmm, everytime I am wondering how priggish some people are.

To make it crystal clear again I feel sorry for what happened and just wanted to point a bit on the reasons of the desaster.

NOT TO BLAME SOMEONE!

RE: Katrina

I just recieved this email from the AMA:

AMA Members Helping Members

As the tragic events along the Gulf Coast unfold,
it has become painfully apparent that the number
of refugees from Hurricane Katrina is enormous.
It is not unreasonable to estimate that there
will be half a million or more homeless Americans
for many months to come.

Among them, unfortunately, are an unknown number
of AMA members. Based on the information at hand,
we at AMA estimate that as many as 1,500 members
could be in dire need of help. These are areas in
which the U.S. Postal Service has suspended
service because its facilities have been severely
damaged or even obliterated by the storm. While
many Federal and State agencies are doing all
that they can, the magnitude of this disaster
means that we all need to do our part.

AMA is establishing a program to try to help
those members in need by matching them with
someone who can help. If youre in a position to
provide temporary shelter, assist with
transportation needs, or just help a fellow
modeler find his or her way back to a normal
life, call our toll-free Hurricane Katrina
Modeler Assistance Hotline at (866) 286-3302.
Our staff will take your name and some key
information and try to match you with someone
in need.

Many of us have an extra room, perhaps a spare
car, or some other piece of equipment thats
sitting around and could be put to good use
during this time of unbelievable tragedy. I have
volunteered space in my own home to assist this
effort and I hope many of you will consider
doing the same.

You can also register by going directly to AMAs
Web site at
http://www.modelaircraft.org/katrina/?section=register
and completing a simple form. Thats all it takes.
Its only a simple telephone call or Web site
registration, yet that simple act can have a
dramatic impact on someones life during this
critical period.

Aeromodelers are a brotherhood, and many of our
brothers need your help. Lets all pitch in and
help these people who have suffered an
unbelievable loss get back on their feet as
quickly as possible. Its the right thing to do
and it is something we can all do to aid the
recovery process.

If you are a member who has been displaced by
this disaster, or know a member who is in need
of this type of help, you can use the same
toll-free number to request help. AMA and your
fellow members are standing by, anxious, and
willing to help.

Remember(866) 286-3302 or use our Web site at
http://www.modelaircraft.org/katrina/?section=register
to volunteer assistance.

If you happen to be reading this and you need help,
you can go to our Web site at
http://www.modelaircraft.org/katrina/?section=request
to make your request.
