Back to Camera.

I just bought this one this evening for a fellow RCU member. I do not think I’ve met this guy in person before but he sent me a PM this morning requesting for one.
In between RCU and other stuff I did this evening, I was able to “hook him up” and his total cost = cost of material.

The only difference between his and the ones I did before is that I am going to add his RX pigtail at the end of the USB wire from the camera. This eliminates a lot of wires coming from the PC board. I will solder the RX pigtail in as soon as I verify from him the type of RX he is going to us (Futaba or Jr.)

that's a shame that someone like David Shulman would try to hit us so hard.

Hey guys,

If you really think that we (Shulman Aviation) buy the camera for $60 or even less than $150, well, I can assure you, we don't. My father (Don Shulman) is mainly the driving force behind Shulman Aviation and tries his hardest to find new products that modelers can use and benefit from. These products aren't really the type that require computer hacking of programs or soldering cables to get the end product, they're ready-to-use items.

We (myself included) have never and will never "hit you so hard" on anything that is being sold. If you feel that way, fine, don't buy it, follow Patricks do-it-yourself method and maybe you will have the same thing, maybe you will just be wasting time and money, not really sure.

I really do appreciate these forums as they can all help us find ways to better enjoy our hobby, share hints/tips, etc. Its a shame that people have to try and start dragging my name into things as taking you for a ride or something.

Its amazing to see how many guys really wanted this camera system? I wonder if video's weren't done to show this installed on aircraft, how many guys would've taken it upon themselves to show what can be done?

PS - I welcome all personal attacks - but I like them in person, face to face or just use the PM's instead, if you would be soo courteous.

Okay,
Seems to me that those who catching up quick got my point.
The rest of y'all can keep on buying ebay "specials" for $50-150+ after all thats your money.
Shulman, you claim that the cam you were selling isnt the same cam as we are talking about here??How come you posted the same video on camerahacking made by 'your camera system' as the one you posted on your website? Those who would strip the case or even take a cover off would recognize it. Instead of trying to lie yourself out of the cheezy situation be honest and acept your mistakes.I won't post here anymore because some people just don't get it.,however i have to admit i appreciate the fact that you stoped selling CVS camcorders that you were claiming to be an RC video system.Better late then never.
Peace out.
Mitty.

Dave, i highly agree with you on this point here ... I would not have though of using this camera, and to date have neen strapping on entire camcorders to my planes ( which have G limitations as well as not operating under vibration on my 1/3 scale prop jobs) ....

I would like to express my appreciation for the efforts made that brought my awarenes to an alternative for getting onboard video .. however at the cost diference, i do have to say i just picked up two of these cameras at CVS for $29.95 yesterday, and a friend of mine has one too ...

This is a capitalist economy and nbusiness is based on charging whatever the market will bear to spend and with who. If you guys were selling your cameras for a few hundred $, then the more power to you, and whoever bought them at that price should not complain, as likely otherwise no one would even find out about the CVS cams anyway ...

thanks very much Dave !

RE: Micro Video Camera

As apparently one of the two people who knew about them before seeing your video, I don't feel like I owe anyone any consideration, other than I do want to thank Ben for showing the rc helicopter thread uses, that was pretty cool.

For those of you that have Tivo, check out tivocommunity.com lots of great hacks there on series one and series two tivos and other dvr's.

I will say I was so impressed by shulmans recorded video that I posted a link to it at the camera hack website for those there to see it cause I thought it was cool. Shortly thereafter I was flamed as not only the pilot, but as someone who was selling in part pirated software with the cam for over two hundred dollars. Clearly not the case, but I do see the how the confusion could be made.

Wouldn't that be a great day to have one of my flights confuse me as David, ;)

As stated earlier, I do support Shulman Aviation's concept of getting whatever they want for what they found and were able to do, and it's none of my business whether the software is pirated or not, I'm not an attorney, and don't know the rules/laws.

Anyway, in part thanks to Patrick, we now all know about them, there have been more than one offer of making these things for some friends here on RCU. And a couple at cost of material only, so anyone that paypal.com me money yesterday I recognize that I charged more than "cost" if you want a refund, let me know by tonight, otherwise, I'm picking up the cameras tomorrow morning to mod them and send them out to you guys.

All the best,

Sean

That one would require more work to use it for RC unless you want to strap the whole camera on your RC airplane.

RE: Micro Video Camera

a slick set up would be to combine the processor/memory of the CVS camera with a remote camera "head".

The processing power needed to convert 640 x 480 video on the fly to MPEG-4 format (I assume that is what this camera is doing) is pretty substantial.

Like I said before, if the percentage of cameras not getting returned gets too high I think CVS will drop this, or tighten the security, good news is I guess there is a very small percentage of hacks going on.

Matt

If you can work on getting it done, I will send you one hacked camera out tomorrow free of charge.

What say you my friend?

No time, Ben, I am trying to paint a plane and keep up with my new friend (picture below)

I noticed from the EDN article (they hacked this thing months ago) that the sensor was on a removable daughter card. Has anyone just tried pulling the card off and extending the wires that connect it to the base board?

I still would like to see how you mount these things to a plane. Even though it is reduced to a circiut board, it is still flat in the airflow. Pics would sure help!!
Thanks!!!

I've been working on it for more than 30 days and have fried about 3 cams as of today.

Not as simple as it looks.

I will keep on lurking in the hack forum and maybe sooner or later but I hope much… much sooner than later, somebody would come up with the ultimate solution. My hat goes out to the boys in the cam hack forum.

Best Regards

Ben

Here is a pic posted in the Georgia Jet Event web site by the Honourable Gorden Dickens on how SKS used mirror mounted at 45 degrees to the camera lense to allow flat mount.

I was able to login few minutes ago but ran into problems last night. I also noticed that you are a registered member there also and same as the GR.

For others that want to join, the discussion forum could be found here: http://camerahacks.10.forumer.com/
FWIW, you do not have join to browse the forum

Hey guys just got in from work. Talked with the Elec. Eng. that is looking at mine working on making a short cable to move the lens. He said it would be much easier and quicker if if he had a schematic of the circuit board. I know one exist but I can't find it. Anyone remember seeing it and where?

Dave,

Don't sweat it. I don't know why people find a product for one price, pay it, then find it cheaper and call the first guy a crook. Like others have said, it's called capitalism. When I found the tea strainer at Walmart for $1.99, I didn't get mad at Tam for selling me one for $20, I was proud of him! Capitalism! More power to all who can buy for nickel then sell for a dime!

In the meantime, who can make one of these for me? Sean? Ben? Who do I contact? I want one [of the CVS ones]!

The chip that the camera interfaces to is a new standard chip for these very cheap digital camcorders. Made by Zoran, but I cannot find the datasheet
