RE: NEW PST F9F PANTHER

Gentlemen

Thank you for your interest in the PST Panther. Some of you may have seen some early examples of the PST Panther in 2005. PST made a number of changes to the airframe production, quality and detailing based on feedback from its reviewers. We also invite you to check out the manual posted on our website.

The final version of the fully composite PST Panther is now in full production in Thailand. It features amazing rivet / panel line detail and virtually seamless molding techniques. We are very excited about this new product and want to do it right. The airframe will be competively priced but in order to do so, we have chosen to sea freight the initial batch of 25 kits. As a result, kits will not be widely available from our Seattle WA. warehouse until mid - late March. Available colors will be all Dark Sea Blue, and all Silver versions. We will also offer complete landing gear and scale upgrade packages. Complete " Go fly / All inclusive " packages will also be available.

We know that some of you are really anxious to see or acquire a kit. We are too....so within the next week, PST will be airfreighting 4 production kits to us that will be shown at upcoming trade shows and jet events.

There have been some enquiries on custom painted versions - please check our website for further pricing / availablilty.

If you are in a hurry for a kit or desire a custom painted version we can special order and airfreight them AT THIS TIME. Please contact us for more info.

This is one of the prototype Panther which has logged over 150 successful flights. We test her out at least 3 times every Sunday.

The test pilot is our Thailand Aerobatic Champion and you can tell from his smile how happy he is with the Panther..;)

I got a chance to see one of the shipping crates as well and was impressed with how well they were packaged for shipment from Thailand. Definitely going to be a winner!!!

Can't wait to get mine. I read the manual allready and is very easy to follow. And a strait forward assembly. The most difficult part seems the elevator control so far. Rest is a pice of cake. Definitely a winnerand a keeper for me.

Will this plane fit an old Ram 750 engine? Most of the new planes that list 12-18 lbs of thrust are refering to the new high power small engines like the Wren supersport.

Helijet 01-14-2006 01:28 PM

RE: NEW PST F9F PANTHER

Hi rcmigpilot

Yes, the PST Panther will fly fine with a Ram 750. A number of years ago I had an opportunity to fly a Ziroli Panther which in size is similar to the PST version. The Ziroli was powered by a 750 detuned to about 19 lbs of thrust. The aircraft flew very nicely. There is ample room in the interior for engines of 12 - 28 lbs however we would suggest limiting the thrust to 20 lbs max.

Kit production continues

Here is a pic of my new PST Panther. I paid the shipping cost to get it here and am well pleased with it. Mine was the primered version, which I then painted. It is based on a F9F-2 which was based at Pensacola NAS around 1956. I retrofitted the cockpit for a full pilot figure and built my own instrument panel and ejection seat. The decals and marking are my own. I still have a little weathering to do and a final coat of Flex-n-Flat, but it is starting to come around. Mine will be powered with one of my trusty PST 600R's. I opted to build the full scale gear doors operated by two sperate MiniHobby gear door sequencers. I couldn't resist taking it out in the sun shine today and taking a few pics.
Tell me what you think....

I wanted this Panther to look "used" not a storefront polished model. By 1956, these things were either being used in the field training or as target drones to make way for the other new more sophisticated fighters. These were the heavy metal machines of the 50'2 and I wanted it to look like it had seen some time on the carrier...

Nice job on the Panther.

Mine is going to be done like a drone. Not sure what year it's from, any idea?. Can you post a few pictures of the flaps and gear doors please. What is the all up weight with the 600R?

Thanks

I'm going the 'Corps' route:

RE: NEW PST F9F PANTHER

I don't have the final weight, the engine is still in another plane. Feels about as heavy as my Ziroli Panther which flies at abhout 21 pounds. The flaps are a no brainer, everything is already hinged, with Robart hinge points on the ailerons, elevators and rudder and the flaps with large Dubro type flat hinges, you just set them up the way you want and glue them in. The pcokets are cut and the mounts are provided.
The gear doors are another item. The inner mains are hinged with piano hinges and actuated by a HD servo. You could use air pistons here and that would be the first choise, but I was having a hard time finding the correct placement for the pistons so an HD servo gave me plenty of throw. Two small 1 inch BVM air cyclinder actutate the front doors, which are again hinged with piano hinges. The outer mains are hinged and attach to the strut with a small elastic band. The gear doors are provided separately if you want to use them, or you can use them as a cut out and have open wheel wells.
I will get some pics some.

RE: NEW PST F9F PANTHER

Tommy, wow...nice looking Panther and you did a very professional job on her. Noticed that the panel lines and rivets are not exagerated and that's how they should be at this scale...very nice...

Peter, your Panther is ready and she will be on her way to you vey very soon. Thanks for all the tips and comments which I have already updated to the manual.

RAM 750 and P-80 will fit into this Panther...lots of room but you will need different tail pipe length. If you are ordering the tail pipe, please specify the turbine being used. This Panther is very strong and can take 18lbs turbines but 14lbs is more than enough.

Its Sunday...PST is working overtime and I am going to fly my Panther and F-18E now....there should be around 20 jets today...;)

RE: NEW PST F9F PANTHER

Thanks guys for the nice comments. Ronnie, you know I'm a sucker for a Panther, can never have to many of those "heavy" metal scale warbirds.
Kraivuth, it really is a beautiful kit and you have done a fantastic job with it, everything fit together very nicely and the instruction book is very good. I am sure it will fly as good as the built up Ziroli Panther I am flying now. It will be a few eeks before I get it in the air, but it will be dispalyed at a local show next week hopefully.
Avicom, you will not be dissapointed with this plane, it is very nice and the airframe feels very strong, although I favor the 600R (since I own a couple of them), you should have a good combination with the P-80.

What kind of set up are you using to sequence the gear doors? As far as I know the front doors remain open with gear down but the mains close.

Thanks

avicom 01-17-2006 07:57 AM

RE: NEW PST F9F PANTHER

I'm also like to know about gear sequence. I know that ultra precision have an upvalve that close the doors when gear is down but forget wich one is. If there any simple method? Also what servos are you using?

Thanks
Alejandro

RE: NEW PST F9F PANTHER

Yeah, there are three sets of doors on the Panther. The front doors open, the gear extends, and they remain open. The miains are a little more complicated. The inner mains open, the gear extends, and the inner mains close. The outer mains open with the gear and remain open. I used two MiniHobby gear door sequencers hooked to a Y-harness. The first one goes to the main inner doors. They are programmed to open when the gear is deplyed, pause 5 seconds and then close. At the same time the other sequencer opens the front doors, waits two seconds and then oepns the main retract valve, thus deploying the gear. (three seconds later the inner main gear doors close, this gives the gear time to deploy). Everything reverses when the switch is thown the other way. Took a little while of playing around with the sequencer to get it all right, but when it is set up you don't have to worry about it any more. There may be another way, but this worked for me.
The doors are already cut out in the kit, you will need to hinge them. I used the servos recommended by Kraivuth in the manual and in our conversations. The gear valves are operated by mini servos. The inner gear doors are opearted by a HD ultra torgue servo with 4-40 rods and a large servo wheel. It is as strong as small pistons and allowed me to program exact amount of throw using my radio.
I have a set of the Jet ttonics gear door/gear sequencers but I saved them for another project, I am not familiar with the UP valves, other than the UP-6, but I hear they work great. They would not have worked for me in this case since I used a servo instead of the pistons.
This is not a difficlut plane to set up and you can take it as far as you wish, scale wise. it is very simple to rig, since most everything is already hinged or set up and all you do is install the servo. The mounts are already in place, or made for you.

Hey Nick, nice work so far. That is the original (version 1) of the PST Panther of the original five I purchased from Kraivuth a while back. The one you have, as I understand it, was the basis or originator of the new all composite model. They are about the same size, but the new version has all the panel lines and a removeable canopy/cockpit. You need to quit working on this Panther though and get back to the A-6..:D

Thanks Tommy!

This is my second one. The first one sits in a Baby Boomerang.

Great engine! I had a fuel pump failure at the 1.5 hour mark.

Seal leakage around the motor shaft let Kerosene into the motor windings.. Luckily it was on the ground when it happend.

Wow, you did get lucky. I had a flame out due to a bearing failure in my Ziroli Panther. I was about 80 feet high on climb out when it happened. Scared the crap out of me. I made a turn and got back to the runway with no problem. John from FTE was there with another engine and they replaced it for me. They won my business for good. It pushes my big Ziroli Panther around with no problem. I also have one on a Boomerang and that is a great little combination.

Hello

For your information. This is a copy of my Panther kit built and sold by my in the late 90' and later. I remember ther was sold a kit thru Rune Nessen/PST earlier. I think it was in 2000. Short afther copy of the kit was sold from PST and they sold them as their own kit. Please, dont take credit for other people works.
