ooppss get some trailing link struts with 6.3mm pins and that problem will go away!!! |

Yep,
My flash was a very early one and although i knew the pins were brittle I didn't change them as I fly from tarmac. However after 40 odd flights one the the pins broke when the wheel hit a stone on landing.[:o] I have since changed the pins for later ones that don't shear off! Geoff. Fred- I have only one spare skid but you local shop should be able to get them quickly. |

Hey Guys
I know it's been mentioned about the fuse tank leaving approx 500ml of fuel in due to the flatness of the base. On testing mine today with filling and emptying I noticed a flow of bubbles into the air trap with about an inch to go. I have a P80 fitted (yet to be run in the Flash) and the wing tank fitted but not plumbed in. Just wondered if any one with a P80 fitted is using the wing tank, if so how long do you get, do you really need it? If you're not using the wing tank would be pleased to here the same and any fixes you carried out. I have the C36 gear fitted, but I'm thinking about changing the struts for Jet A-1. Is it possible just to change the struts and keep all the original Behotec gear? Mine was one of the first kits in the UK (yes, I know, I'm taking my time!) and I'm keen to get it in the air soon. I'm trying to fit the Jet 1A gear and am having a few problems and would be grateful for any tips from those that have already done it.
I enlarged the retract mount gap to fit the units but then when I put the retracts in place the wheel is almost 1/2 inch too far back. To correct this I have enlarged the retract bay a bit more so I can mount the retract 'off line' so that the wheel lines up with the well. Does this sound right? I am a bit worried that the wheel will no longer be straight when the gear is down. I can't see another way to get everything to line up. As well as removing a bit of the 'lip' of the gear opening I have also had to remove some of the material where the wheel well meets the gear opening. Has anyone else had to do this? Has anyone got any good pics of the finished installation (without the well covers fitted)? Thanks |

Charts, I solved that problem by going to a lawnmower repair shop and purchasing another felt clunk like the one that's used in the hopper tank. It will 'wick' the fuel up every chance it gets while in flight. I flew mine with a P80 in it, no wing tank, the fuse, hopper, AND a BVM UAT for more flight time. I could get about 7.5 - 8 minutes flying time. After landing I would have about 1/4 - 1/2 inch of fuel in the fuse tank and the hopper and UAT were still full.
Give it a shot! That problem really bothered me too. Good luck. You're gonna love that jet! |

I would be interested to see other people installation as I can't really get them to fit. I have ground out loads of the retract mount and wing and they still don't fit. Even the one that is in rubs on retraction. I'm almost at the point of trashing the wing (if I haven't already). I'm beginning to wish I had bought the Behotec[&o] |

Sicklic,yes you do have to remove a LOT of the retract pocket to get the things to clear,
my concern was the clearance around the well,but stick with it!,i did ask if smaller wheels were avalable but no joy ! but to be fair to Sandor the quality of the units are far better than the std and no broken pins !:) After 20 plus flights the units are fine with no movement and clearances have remained the same you do need to make sure the units are as far forward as possible on install. |

I'm pretty much there now. I didn't realise that I would have to modify the wing so much and thought that I must be doing something wrong. I have had to hoover the inside of the wing as there was so much dust in there!! I need to reinforce the gear mount plates again as I ended up taking a bit too much material off to get them to fit. I have also had to mount one unit crooked to get the clearance. This has caused quite a bit of toe-out but re-filing the pins will sort that. I assume that you have not used the 'inserts' that go into the wing under the retracts. Has that caused any problems? |

I have used the inserts, you can't see them in the picture, but instead of glueing them on the lip I glued them on the inside and opened them out slightly so they clear the leg. |

Sorry to butt in on the thread guys but I flew my Flash today for the first time!
It's the first time I've ever flown a jet (or anytning without a prop) and will admit to being a bit nervous getting off my grass strip but I let it build up the speed and lifted it off. It flew awesome. What a rush. I normally fly big petrol 3d models but this flew like the pattern stuff i grew up on. Really predictable, hours of fun getting the flaps down, holding the nose up and slowing it right up for landings. Andrew |

Thats good to hear Birdman, Ive not flown mine yet been flying a boomerang up to now, hopefully I will maiden the flash at the weekend. Did you use full Flap on landing and did you have any down elevator mixed with flap?

I'm beginning to wish I had bought the Behotec[&o] it is a tight fit yes.. what you can do is to losen a bit the screw that holds the spring on the upper side of the wing you will see that the down part will move slightly , this can clear out the last rubbing you might have. as for fitting we had lots of customers putting them in , and they where all ok. maybe your formers where nott at the exact spot. we also have customers using 3 inch wheels instead of the 4 inch ones. |

Sorry to be so difficult but I am a bit annoyed that I spent so much money on retracts and they don't fit as advertised. I can't return them for a refund as, now the model has been significantly modified, no other gear will fit. Don't get me wrong they are excellent quality, but you indicated that no modifications were needed and that is not true. They don't even fit between the retract bearers. You can get them to fit but not without significant modification to the model (a lot more than the 3mm of skin removal that was mentioned). If I had known this when I bought them I may still have bought them but I feel annoyed that I have been misled. I just want to highlight this here so that others can make informed decisions about their gear choice. |

I just want to highlight this here so that others can make informed decisions about their gear choice. sorry just trying to help. as far as fitting , i also owned a flash and i did put in the retracts. mine fitted between the bearers simply because our size is EXACTLY the behotec size. so looking at yours you do have a problem somewhere. if you are not happy with the gear , send it back please. i have sold over 45 gears for the flash sofar and you are the first with so many problems... so take it easy and enjoy the hobby. buy the behotec it will still fit ok ,and you can still use all options they use. |

As a tip to others ,you MUST line the units up and remove the wing material before trying to screw/bolting in the mounts,the retract mounts like most artf,s are NOT all the same or in line.[:@]
You can then shave the mounts ,there is just not enough clearance in the wells. |
