Just today I put some small sized safety wire on the brake nipples.
Is everyone lubing their brakes or not? As far as the instument panel goes, I'll download some pics and make my own. |

I safety wire all of my air connections with 0.011" annealed Stainless safety wire:

Is it O.K. to put this tube in here to protect the servo wires, or am I blocking a hole that bypass air is supposed to flow through?
I guess bypass air will still flow through the tube, but it might limit the flow a little? Thanks, Jim |

go to BVM site and in the catalog under air systems at the bottem in air accesories you will find clear brake line 6ft $2.25, not sure on the Pt No but someone out there will know it.

For everyone out there flying their Flash's with big block engines, what are your using and are you using the stock pipe / bypass setup? I thinking about going with either a Titan SE, Super Eagle, or AMT 280, but I tihnk the 280 may be to much for the bypass... Any feedback would be helpful.

Guys,
My Flash was maidened last friday, she flew great, no trim needed at all. One comment from the test flight was that when you did a roll they were "barrely", this was put down to having more down aileron than up. When I got home I check the instructions and Comp Arf recommend having 2mm less up movement on the ailerons than down, this apparently is to compensate for the top hinge on the ailerons. What is the general opinion on this - how does your flash roll? Have you got equal movement up/down? Please let me know? Thanks in Advance Nick |

I have built four and they were all set up by the book and all roll like a Dewalt drill. Some people like to tone down the throws a little but the differential aileron is mandatory with this airframe if you want an axial roll.

Anybody installed an Artes Rhino in their Flash yet? It's a little lighter than the Super Eagle with even more thrust. I'm about to set up my Flash and would really like to buy one turbine that will fit multiple applications.

My Flash is set up by the book and the rolls are as or more axial than any plane I have flown. But the other day I did notice the roll got sloppy at very low speed but I was just goofing around with it and realy didn't explore that tendancy. Also, was the gear up on the maiden? If it was left down that could account for the bad rolling behavior. |

Flash was test flown with gear up. I have rechecked all the control movements and found that on the ailerons I have 3-4mm more down than up (manual states 2mm more down than up), this has now been adjusted. I didn't get to fly it as I spent most of the day trying to sort out a few small problems, initially I couldn't get all the air out of the UAT, the turbine ran fine in the pits but when she was throttle up for a take off run she quit - this was due to the UAT being too level, once this was sorted she was ok. Then I found that I had an air leak , the brake line had slide around the oleo a bit and got jammed in the servo cover, cuting the line. Test flight was eventually done, at the end of the day by Mark Leavesley, the barrely rolls came from him, we would have had another flight and tweaked it but the turbine battery was getting low. At least I know that it flies ok and it just needs a bit of fine tuning. The only thing it didn't like was the flap, I set my landing flap to 50mm with a few mm of down elev mix (as per instructions) after consulting a few flash flyers, when mark tried the full flap she nose dived groundwards, this was switched back out and she landed on T/O flap. I have since ditched full flap and set her for 8 to 10mm T/O and 15mm for Landing and no elev mix. Nick |

I was similarly frustrated by the original flap design. Eventually one of my flaps hinge area got damaged and I modified my flaps as follows:
1. cut them both off 2. cut them in 1/2 3. permantly mounted the top half back into the wing 4. fabricated new flaps from light ply, mounted them the full width of the flap cutout using a round carbon fiber dowel 5. now I have 2 "split" flaps ( lile a P-40) with more surface area than the originals and no"spoilers" on the top of the wing 6. These slow the plane down to a crawl and allow ridiculously slow landings with very little pitch problems 7. IF you note from the C-ARF website, the new LIGHTNING design has these type of flaps as well ENJOY |

We have put a lot of flights on Comp-Arf flashes here in Kentucky. I started with the down in the elevator as you guys have done. The end result is i have 5/8" from top of wing skin to the top of the spoiler skin. This is a great position for landing flaps and no pitch issues. ( make sure your cg is correct) . I also have a little up elevator at full flaps ( not down) and only about half the trailing edge thickness. This will crawl in with the correct approach.good luck and mine weighs 25.8 lbs dry

Is the stock Behotech brake valve a proportional valve?
If not, would I be better off with a proportional brake valve? If you can't tell, I'm new to jets. Thanks, Jim |

I never has problems with the stock valve. It is not proportional. The jet really lands slow.

So how does it work? Do you just have one setting for brakes? Or do you have a partial brake setting and a full (locked) brake setting?

Brakes are on or off. I just grease the brake rubber with silicone oil, then I wipe it off only leaving a light residue. This keeps the brakes from locking up. I am getting ready to do another Flash, I will stick with the valve because it never failed.

This is my first jet and all the programming such as flaps, brakes, nose wheel steering, etc is all new to me. Would someone with a 10X be willing to send me your programming? I can download it to my 10X and manually transfer things over to the 12X. I just don't even have a clue as to how to do some of this stuff, like programming the brakes on down elevator, for example. I don't have an experienced jet guy that lives close by either. There are 3 of us in this area new to jets and assembling Flashes, but we could use some help. Thanks, Jim |
