RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Could someone please tell me the best way to set up my bobcat 52? I have a .61 engine for it i would just like to know what servos should be used as far as the micro servos and the standard servos. Also what battery should be used. If you have a bobcat let me know how yours is set up and also if you have any other suggestions for this plane.
thanks,wayne |

There are 118 pages of posts answering your questions and many more not asked. It takes a while to read but is well worth the additional information provided.

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Gents, I realize this must be posted somewhere (and yes I read page 97) but I am wondering which SpringAir nose gear is being used, the 100 degree or the 90 degree? Thanks.

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Finally sorted my retract repair, ended up with a large ply plate which will also mount the aileron servos fully inside the wing. - John.

Nitro to Electric conversion.. 6s 4500mah, 50/55 600rpm/v, 12x8 prop, 8lbs 2oz, Aprox 10min flight time. I will soon take this cat to the field and see how it flys. I will give an update and pic's soon. Thanks for all the information in the first 118 pages... Matto

It flies fairly well this way, but I want more speed. I'm awaiting a GMS .32 engine to convert it back to glow. My .25 weights in at 4lb 8oz. I wonder if you'll have enough power? |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
I tested the thrust at about 9lbs wide open should fly ok.

Hello, I have attach a few pics of my Bobcat and 1 of my shop. I had to beef up the front end (my work is not so pretty) looked to be not tough enough. This setup draws 60amps and has about 9lbs thrust. I will report on how it flys asap. I have also bought another Bobcat52 and am torn on if I should go nitro or electric. As of yet I have been all electric. Any comments? Experience with both power systems on the Bobcat 52? What is your setup? Got an error during file upload sorry if there is duplicate pics. Matto..

Ummm I will think about it... I still have to fly this cat and see how I like it. Matto

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
That ESC handles 22v?
I have a couple of those and I'd swear that they don't work over 20v, though I may be mistaken. I ended up using a 90A ESC rated to 24v with a 5A Switching BEC on board to power all of the servos. And that's for my little .25'er. |

Mattosan1 and Everyone else in this tread,
I have been in here quietly in the background reading the entire tread and I must sy that there is certainly a great deal to be learned about the Nitro Bob cat. Needless to say I have one of these planes and I want to set it up for e-power. Mattosan1, yesterday you posted some pictures of you plane. I was hoping you would share your e-power setup information with me. What motor, battery, ESC and prop are you using? It looks like from the pictures that your motor mount is a piece of aluminum angle. Is that correct? Lastly, if you beefed up the engine mounting area what did you do? Thanks for your help. RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Read post #2949 forward.
He explained it there. He hasn't flown his yet. We are awaiting a flight report. I've flown my Bobcat .25 with an almost identical E-setup as his Bobcat .50. This was a good combination for my Bobcat .25, so I'm waiting to see his report on how it flies with the much larger plane. |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
opjose,
Thought you might like to know that take off roll on grass seemed too slow with snubber brakes and they have been removed. Maybe later if long roll out becomes an issue. I turned the main tank around so the clunk faces the front and added a 1 oz. header tank with the clunk facing the rear. The length of the fuel supply line was shortened over 6". The thought is that up lines will uncover the main clunk allowing fuel to be pulled a shorter distance. I have used header tanks on numerous occasions in the past and horizontal flight simply transfers fuel. Bill |

Nitro to Electric conversion.. 6s 4500mah, 50/55 600rpm/v, 12x8 prop, 8lbs 2oz, Aprox 10min flight time. Page 118. Also the ESC is 70amp. I purchased all the power systems, Motor, ESC, Lipos, Serovs, connectors, wire, heat shrink from Hobby City in China (http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_index.asp). There prices are very good and the quality is very acceptiable, check it out. The Lipos I have purchased from this outfit are good but I recommend if you buy Lipos from this company try the (LM Loong max) brand they are well built and test out good. Good luck. Matto

I've had no problems with the stock setup during up lines or otherwise. I don't recall anyone else having any problems either. The extra fuel tubing doesn't seem to be a factor in engine performance at all. With the tank in front of the engine, an up line actually creates a siphon situation to the carb making fuel draw very easy. It's much harder for a conventional front engine setup to pull fuel in an up line. Header tanks do have their place but in this case I think it's a lot of extra plumbing (and potential leaks) that isn't really necessary. Of course and as always, just my 2 pennies. ;) |

ORIGINAL: dinartrade I just recived my bobcat 50 from nitroplanes any one know what air retracts i can use. I used 5x0's from Robarts, Spring Airs and Century retracts have been used as well. DO beef up the gear area as much as you can, because it gets a LOT of stress which can rip the gear out... especially if you transition to grass. |

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Ok, Just got my bobcat last week was wondering , with the bigger rngine and putting blocks to raise the mount doesnt that change the thrust line of the engine to the plane. How did you guys deal with this?

How did you guys deal with this? That rear lip is THICK fiberglass over some VERY hard wood. I ground the fiberglass down until I got to the wood. This let me put in a GMS .76 at exactly the same position as a .46. http://image2-6.rcuniverse.com/e1/ga.../lg-114529.jpg http://image2-6.rcuniverse.com/e1/ga.../lg-114530.jpg |
