Yeah i saw the 90 but figured everyone would skip right on by that one and go to the super one. Im intrigued by the big one i have a bid in on a 120 size motor on ebay
but having second thoughts about it i allready have the baddest plane on the block with the Bobcat 50. I need to wait and let someone build one before i get gunho and spend the $$$$$$$$$$$$

Personally I can't see spending twice the money for the airframe, twice the money for a 1.20 engine, twice the money for servos, (which is already a sizeable chunk of change for the 51), and end up with a plane that weighs twice as much.
(website says 12 lbs. so it will most likely be closer to 15) I think this larger version is probably a more practical candidate for turbine conversion than it is for glow. Just my 2 cents. :)

Precisely why I bought one. To find out if there really is a brand new airplane for 250 clams, I've built close to 20 turbine jets, and for 250 bucks, I just had to see this thing in person. Only after I bought and paid however did I see they have a primarily "white colored" airplane. Unfortunately I pre ordered the orange.

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?

Sean,
I pre-ordered two orange Falcons and also realized later they ofter a white one too.
I sent them via email (not verbal) to request an exchange of the orange with a white one.
They wrote back "No problem" they would change the order immediately.
I will also be notified when the shipment arrives, hopefully to once again ensure I receive a ORANGE and WHITE Falcon.

So you may want to contact them to make the adjustment for you if you still would like to have a white one.

I, too I'am interested in the quality of this size. I had a yellow BC50 last year that I lost when I lost the signal.
(To close to power tower) I bought another yellow and gray Bobcat to convert to electric and IC.
However, I'm gone to sell these (easily at my field I might add) and deal with the Falcons.
I have a Artes Bee that I was thinking of putting in it, but I think I'm going to buy a JJ1400 for it.
From what I read, JetJoe is trying to make great strides in producing a better product, I'll see!

I figure "cheap with cheap." Just can't phantom putting a $2500 engine in a $250 plane thats not turbine tested.
I already kind of know from dealing with the Bobcat 50 that these will also require some beefing up and modification.

Just can't seem to resist the deal, as these kits will make excellent home field and push it to the limit practice planes.

Keith, can you forward me the emails you used to change the color to [email protected] ??

Thanks.

I called nitroplane sales rep. to find out if there is Flap on Falcon but he wasn't sure.

On the picture of Falcon, I could see the Flap bottom of the wing............

Just starting mine. Using a West 50V1 with west Genisis power pipe.
Whats been your experiance with conversion and flying? Have you fitted retracts?

I have a bobcat 50 to be here Tuesday and need some info. I am using a OS .55AX engine, and have a few questions.

#1 What is the prop everyone is using, I know several are using the engine.

#2 I ordered the retract ready(LOL), what retracts does everyone recommend. I never delt with retracts before, and this will be my first.

#3 What servos is everyone suggesting?

I hope this fly good, and leads to my DF Enforcer(BryoBlaster) I am working on.

Thanks

I would say that it does just by the fact that it requires 11 servos.

11x7 apc seems to be the prop. I`m using ball raced hitecs,425s, on all surfaces and a single 5kg metal gear mini,?, on the elevator

I've been toyin around in CAD a little and drew up some little air up/down retracts that would fit in my bobcat. Same footprint at the robart spring down ones. I'm gonna see about getting a set machined, anyone else be interested in some?

From looking at the specs, it seems to weigh the same as the .91 FX and swings the same prop. Is there any benefit to using the .75 AX over the .91 FX?

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?

It will probably spin faster [sm=spinnyeyes.gif] thanks to bigger transfer ports... and also it might drink less, thus requiring a lighter fuel amount onboard.

Can someone who has received the "retract ready" version post pics of the mounts, layouts e.t.c, I have a spare set of spring air retracts i'd like to use.

Thanks

I would think the cost of specialized machining would be prohibitive but yeah, I would be interested in knowing how much.

wouldnt it be easier to just get spring airs 301s or 305s. they fit right in

I suppose it would be easier, but if I can get em done at near the same cost of the springairs I'd rather have air both ways.

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?

Here are some pictures of my retract installation. Took a long while but the light is at the end of the tunnel. Finally!!!! All that is left to do is to cover the bottom of the wing and hook up the airlines, retract servo, and the nose gear linkage. Of course at the rate I am going it will be another 6 months.....

I also included a picutre of the bolts to secure the rear end of the wings. Since the wheel wells for the retracts cut into the fuse I had enough room to put in another blind nut and bolt. So I have a bolt in the front and one in the rear.

One thing for sure is when they built my Bobcat it was definitely started on a Friday and finshed up on a Monday. If you look at the pictures showing the main gear you will see the wing root on the panel of the left side is thinner than the one on the right. The left side is 5/16th and the right is 7/16th. The other thing is I had to construct a wedge for the nose gear as the former was not square. I originally had it set up with a flat mount on a motor mount but switched over to a firewall mount as it gave me more room inside the fuse. I also lucked out in that I did not have to cut up the servo tray. Just a little trimming in the back to clear the tire.

Looking at the picture of the plane standing on it's gear, I was wondering if anyone has thought about not using the booms and stab and setting the Bobcat up using elevons? I will say I am not going to try as I have too much time in getting these retracts in. If she crashed it will not be because I didn't use the booms and stab.

funny, I was thinking the same thing about 5 minutes ago!!! problem is no fin......

Anyways, 2 minor problems and I had to dismantle the whole plane to fix them...
One was preventable, as it was mentioned several times in this thread....but if anyone else did not heed this information:
EPOXY THE BLIND NUT BLOCKS TO THE BOOMS ! ! ! ! !
It looks like they were only CA'ed in during manufacture.

Second problem is the cheap #$#@ fuel tubing supplied with the tank - DON'T USE IT !! It gets brittle and breaks off with no effort at all. I had to pull the wings off to get the locating wire out of the way so I could remove the tank and replace that cheap #$#@ fuel tubing - I don't know why I didn't replace it with duBru tubing during the build.......

So while everything is apart, I'm looking how much work it would be to install retracts........

thebluemax 05-13-2007 06:13 PM

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?

Not sure no fin is a problem. Flying wings don't have fins. At least my electric one doesn't and it has elevons and flies just fine.

As for retracts I don't think it is really hard to do but this was the first time I ever installed retracts and it was difficult. Only because I was not exactly sure what I was doing, plus I did not want to mess my plane up. Many people on this thread helped tremendously by posting their pictures and answering questions. I think if the plane did not have to be modified and the retracts dropped right in it I would have enjoyed it more. Now that I have gone through it it really isn't that hard. Just take your time and plan it out. I will install retracts again as it is neat when they work.

I will take your advice and epoxy those blind nuts and change the fuel line.....

Which electric is that??? The only plane I have ever seen without a vertical fin was the B-2 and it has computers to stabilize it......

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?

I went and looked at my flying wing and there is no name on it. It was given to me for doing some computer work, so I don't know what it is called. However, I guess you are right. The wing doesn't have a fin per say but it does have tip plates. So I guess those are technically fins. In any case I would think you could add tip plates and it would go.

Here is a link for one in Tower Hobbies which kind of looks like mine.[link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDSC1&P=ML]flying wing - slinger[/link]

Wayne22 05-13-2007 08:27 PM

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?

That's what I figured...a slinger or a zagi....those are fins, and they won't fly without them....no need to ask how I found that out!!! But it might be possible to get the bobby to fly without the booms, but the cg would have to go waaaay back (I think..), or maybe canards.....It would save a ton of weight and 4 servos, so it would be a cheap experiment, if anybody is willing........ :D
