Hi All after a chat with dave i have discovered that my battery,s are much lighter than his hence the nose weight.Today i have moved the engine forward 30mm but with the same battery,s still need 14ozes of lead above the nose wheel to get the C/G at recommended place.i guess that i either fit a lighter engine or use bigger batterys or may be a lighter duct will do the trick.i spoke to mike cherry at jet power who told me that the only reason that the duct is so heavy is that they can not get anything any thinner in Thailand regards keith

Keith,
How about posting some pictures of your installations? This MAY help. Also, do you have an empty weight for us? With all that lead?

Dave

Hi All sorry it has taken some time but here are some pic,s of my installation.Total battery weight is 18oz or 526grms may be this is why it took 14oz lead to get C/G in correct place? weight of model with full U A T is 23lbs.Flys great with expo as recommended by Dave but full elevator is needed on landing with flap regards Keith

Another Flash lands-this is the first of the Yellow Chequer custom jobs...I like it!
Now in the hands of its happy owner, hopefully we will see it at Winter Jets..

Hi Werner,

Nice! I have just supplied a customer in the UK with that scheme too :)

Use the JR 8411 for the elevators.

Mark

Werner,

I think you'll find that you want to put an 8411 on the rudder too. The 8611 won't fit into the rudder servo mount and its going to be a bit tedious to enlarge as its already glued in and access isn't that great. That's what I did on mine. I'm planning on 8611's on the ailerons and flaps, but I haven't tried it yet so I don't know how easily the (precut) mounts for those can be modified either...

Mine's in the paint booth right now (originally white), and I'll post a few pictures when its out...

Nice! Looking good. I see they have reverted back to the yellow I originally designed for that scheme. Think I prefer it to the orange on the Lightning.

Can anyone comment on the landing distance on the Flash vs a Kingcat or Bobcat? I'm wondering how short field capable it is. I've flown KC's and BC's at the field I would be flying the Flash at.

Anymore updates on the flight performance? No posts on this thread for a while.

Thanks,

JS

The Flash/Falcon combo flies very much like the Lightning/Rhino combo. They are both about 1 to 1 thrust to weight. I was amazed at how similar they were, particularly when landing.

Hi Dave, glad all went well with test flight.I also test flew my Flash today with the C/G set at factory recommed place it was tail heavy to the point that i was only just able to land it.I have a jet central Falcon in it[ 22lbs thrust] set as far forward as possable with two 2500 li-polys in battery bays with a 4000mah above the nose leg.The Falcon only weighs a bit more than a P80 so how did you balance yours with a 120 and where is your C/G?? Once i had added 5 ozes lead in the nose it was GREAT and flew very well i am delighted with the performance but why can,t the factory get the C/G right i could have damaged it or even worse regards Keith Whiddett
I needed 9 ounces of lead in the nose to get the CG to the factory recommended point with the Falcon. Otherwise a stock bird. I use three scales and a computer program to find CG, and I used the factory recommended balance point. I would suspect that you were not on the factory point the first time around.

Congratulations Werner and Snobird!! This is a sweet plane for sure.
Werners scheme gets my vote for super vis conditions, like haze and snowy white outs. We get that here in the hot season with the smog, red and yellow are about the best to cut through the muck. !~)

Keith, can you comment on the speed range with the falcon? How is balance now that you've flown it? Inverted is neutral? Have you done 45s up and down both inverted and upright?

Jamie

You need 300ft with a light breeze to be comfortable, less in a stronger wind.
