Hey Hustler,

Cool nozzle but it simulates a Pratt & Whitney F100 motor. You B-1 has GE F101 motor in it. I know you already knew that thought. The only reason I know is from some long nights maintaining those damned things. I won't tell the world you have the wrong nozzle, I promise.:D

It is one sweeet looking nozzle, I will admit.[sm=thumbup.gif]

Tnx guys, this nozzle isn't as complicated as it looks and can be bought from Philip Avonds (www.avonds.com)
You make use of the original kit supplied fiberglass tailcone which has the turkey feathers nicelly moulded in. The gaps need to be cut away and special moulded sections can be glued inside. There are five sections, each have three artificial bafels. Gluing it all togehter is a bit of fiddly job and takes patiance.....as most scale items do...:D
However most important in my opinion is to copy the colors as good as possible, this makes the difference.....I use humbrol laquers mixed to the correct colors.

Here is how i do it on my Avonds F-16.
A pushrod tube are glued from the chute housing to the front, where a servo does the cutting part of the job.
A UC wire (line controlled model wire) is stiff / thin enough to be pushed all the way to the front. the loop on this wire is simply thread over the servohorn.
When this servo rotates, the wire are loose.
It releases from inside the housing at the rear with a analogue miniservo after the original fullsize method. So I use two small servos on one switch. step one is deploy, the second is cut away.
A weaklink makes sure the chute will snap the line above 80 km/h.
I sew all my chutes myselves ;)

FWIW a bit of advice, I strongly suggest you cut that rudder and make it half the size.

F100 or F101 it's just one digit ! Most people wouldn't notice if it had a prop. Hey I think I could fake it and make it work. I have enough stuff to make, I was hoping for something easy. Butch

No, not for my shutes. The first i had, was to big.. I stopped instantly [:-], and the chute at the time, had much fewer slots.
Later, i experimented with various sizes, and came up with the one I have now.
It has reinforcements glued and sewed to make each slot / line-attach stronger, or else they will be damaged after some time.
It must be four years ago i started with this I think..

A simple photo of a Norwegian chute, was the only thing i had to stick to. The rest is experiments.
But I haven`t used this model for over two years..:eek: There is a thread here somewhere, of how I made my system and how to make my chute.

Terry Holston got one for his contribution on a tread here on RCU. The best story in this thread, got a chute for free.
But in the end, the decition of the best story was pure bingo.. Also a friend in Hong Kong uses his on the Skymaster F-15. He keeps his in a leather pouce between the nozzles!
Works great!

Hi Terry!
I don`t know what`s wrong with PM account... All the settings are right in my oppinion..[&o]
Thought about " MY PM DOESN`T WORK AT INNBOX! " at the bottom line for a long time. I also PM`d a moderator without any help, so I don`t know what to do about it anymoore. Just as this is said, I`m no hacker though...:)

if you don't find plans, or you don't want to build one..

search for some model Rocket shops..they have a lot of parachute in every size!! from 10 inches to 50 inches..or bigger

i normally get them from there...(but still not for use on a jet..)

now that you have added that picture (the one where we can see the chute near the CC), there's no need for plans indeed, a compass should be enough. Now can anyone teach me how to sew :)

PS : Maybe changing your username from Gudmund to H?Rek is at the root cause for your PM troubles...

I tought myselves how to sew, infact my wife is the modern type, meaning she handles all that kind of xxxx to me..:D
So if I could, you can also learn it. I found out that the biggest step is dare to try...

Remember: glue the reinforcements first with a neoprene-type of glue, like Aquasure, Liquisole and such.
It`s a hell of a mess, cause yourè depending of applying this glue gently with your fingertips.
The tiny pieces are suddenly everywhere...!

If you can buy a rocket-chute, this would be a good start for modification. A very good tip indeed..
Buy two, so you can use the other one for reinforcements..?;)

The PM thing.. It started along time before that.

in the hobbyrocket business you dont find planes chutes, but chutes that work...and pretty good for rockets!

mainly the are nylon canopies round, but you may find some in cross form..
for sure if you want a chute like horek one, cutted, you have to do it by yourself..

if somabody has interest, i can PM some internet adress of parachute shops..

My chute deployed to soon once (I hit the switch) I just hit the power and she landed fine. The funny part is I had a release switch I was in shock! And never hit it. [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

Hi Gerald.
No sorry, no pix of the pieces inside.. But consists of a rectangular balsa sylinder and ditto piston.
A rubberband in each corner are stretched once the sylinder i pushed back.
The leatherpads are wrapped on top of each other, with a hole in three of them. The fourth has a tiny loop, wich goes through all of them, and are secured by the little pin you see is hanging from the housing. Once the servo activates, this tiny pin is letting the loop go out of the three pads.
And pop, here we go..;)
When released, the chute pops out about 1,5 meter backwards.
The chute is also wrapped around a rectangular piece of 1mm polycarbonate plastic, to make it withstand the force needed to puch back the piston.
This piece is lost once deployed. No one have ever noticed it..:)

I have seen a couple Rhino pilot's do the same thing on final back in my Air Force days. I am guessing they were a little hot and needed to slow down.

As a start, I`ll show you the method I came up with.

To have a fixed point on the very slippery floor, I taped a piece of 2mm balsa on the floor, to mark the center.
Ripstop cloth from a extreme-tent producer here in Norway, was the only solution, since my wife (who else) had thrown the remains of the tent I intended to use...

The given outer diameter i devided into the measured individual radius of the different panels and slots.
There are 115 panels and 88 slots on the original F-104 chute. 21 lines in total.
Diameter is exact 100 cm, wich will shrinke to app. 75-80 cm in action.
Slots are 25 mm, and panels are 55 mm.
It has all the reinforcements as the full-scale, seams and solutions.
