got a chance to do a little servo fitting on the vert fin tonight, a JR DS3421 fit nicely into the bottom with a little trimming of the excess glue around the frame work.

Zivo,

My buddy Noam had both of his elevators swollen like a baloon after sitting in the sun for 15 minutes. we Emailed FEJ and they advised us that their worker forgot to drill the VENTING HOLE in the elevator base rib, and so with the heat the air expands and cant come out, thus the balooning.

Drilling venting holes in the base of the stab will solve this issue. however ours was too late (it was deformed and the drilling didnt cure it) so they sent us new ones.

Does yours have venting holes in the base of the stab ?

i3dm,

Can you post a picture of what this ballooning looks like and a picture where FEJ advised you to drill?

Regards,
Mike

KC36330,
How are you going to secure the fin to the fuse? I am hesitant to glue mine on like the manufacture recommends. I would never had a problem with the servo unless I fixed it where there was no access to it.

RE: FLy Eagle Jet Models

Cody,

The F-16 fin is secured via a screw and they recommend as such, the F-15 however is glued down.

Mike

Mike,
I asked FEJ about that. On this new design, there is no drilled and tapped pins or pegs. No way other than gluing to secure it unless you make modifications.

mine has two aluminum posts that are drilled and tapped to secure the fin to the fuze.

RE: FLy Eagle Jet Models

a modification i wish they would of made was with the new scale nose wheel there isn't a need for the intake to have the wheel well formed into it and they could of removed it for better air flow into the engine.

RE: FLy Eagle Jet Models

Cody,

Oh...did not realize that, I have the older version. I was thinking about ordering the fin with the new setup as it is a bit more cleaner setup. Well that is not good, I wonder if it can be reconfigured tobe screwed down?

Mike

Mine is due to be delivered in a couple of weeks I also have just ordered the Rafale. I am following this thread and making notes in the ready. If I am to read this correctly on the latest versions you install the rudder servo then glue the fin on giving you know way of servicing the servo??

Paul

RE: FLy Eagle Jet Models

Thats correct Paul. I dont like it either. I may set 2 aluminum pegs and tap them. FEJ offered to send me a new verticle of the old style but with the cost of shipping, I think I will fix it myself.

RE: FLy Eagle Jet Models

What about going back to the original design with slim servo installed flat in the fin?

Can someone please post a picture showing the location of the vent holes in the base of the F-16 stab?

Thanks,
Joe

Thanks, KC. Can you give me the distances from the shaft? I could guess from the photo but I'd rather make sure I don't drill into anything difficult.

2 1/2 inches from the edge of the shaft in each direction.

Udi maman,

The problems you are having may be due to temperature and humidity (lack of) where you fly. Can you tell us what the temperature and humidity is over there?

Regards,
Mike

we have the same problems here if small composite structures are sealed and can't breath. there isn't enough internal volume to accommodate the build up of pressure as they heat up.

Suprise! I just went downstairs and checked my F-16. The elevators have a single vent hole about one inch aft of the shaft. I didn't want to pull it apart before the maiden anyway. Mine was an early one, delivered in late December.

I did not use flaps. no need...
Maybe I will try it in the next flight just to see if it changes something, but still it was easy to land as it is.

Yes as well as the rudder.

RE: FLy Eagle Jet Models

oh well,,nothing on ailerons or rudder.i quess i ll have to make some holes to prevent blistering as hot summer is approaching and temperatures of 38-42c are not very good for this...

of what i saw on the threads some people used heatblankets inside the fuselage and some covered the servo wires with aluminium foil.
is this a must or depends from the engine?anybody did that.especially ziv, who has same weather temperatures as me?

has anybody changed the wood screws that the landing gear came with the hegagonal bolts and spike nuts(i dont know how to say it in english i hope you understand) that are included in the kit? i know keith posted this sometime at the beginning of THE thread thaT he did but i am wondering if the woodscrews do the job fine

thanks
regards Nicos
