Hi,
Good job on that. I didn't use that method but instead made a servo hatch in each stab which works well. Some one asked back a few threads ago we should start a building thread for the BD-5. What's wrong with this one? With many people waiting on there ship, I can contact BVM and Sung in Calif. so they can refere people here since there are no instructions and no Video as promised. Once that happens, this thread will hopefully get busy. Doc... |

ORIGINAL: Doc... Hi Mike: I share your frustration, I really do. When I 1st ordered mine, BVM was told 6-8 weeks. It finally came 13 weeks later. I was also told there would be an instruction video. There was nothing. This has been going on for some time now. I paid for mine up front and that may be where the problem is. The only thing I can think of is to boycot Skymaster, at least the extream ones. It's no skin off of BVM, they just take the money. The price is right but what if we need replacement parts? Another 3 months? I have several pictures and methods which will improve the BD-5 but with Jon in China not having instructions for the ship, I'm not in business to write a manual for him which I'm sure he is hoping all our coments and pictures will help him do just that. I have built the Boomerang Sprint and Elan and Alan admits his instructions are limited but at least all the improtant info is there. When I un-packed the BD-5, the shipping slips with the contents were all in China writing. Sorry about my venting but I really dispise being told one thing and have it totally the other way. When the time comes, I will post pictures which will really improve and simplify the construction but,............I will do it only in privite email. Hi,
In looking at your pictures, I'm wondering if you have installed the metal pipe yet. In most of the BD-j5's I have seen the exaust end on the Jet have been cut since the pipe is not designed to go all the way to the end. Today I was pleasantly surprised when my bd5 arrived today which is now sitting on my kitchen island,its been a long 4 months . I been following the forum for awhile and noticing that the finishing instructions aren't being publicized or posted due to the lack of instruction that came with the plane.I understand , but any info or pics on what other modelers have done would help, so I'm not re-eventing the wheel on save on some time on finishing for the spring.

My BD5 arrived yesterday. Just a quick look over and it looks good. One question, only one hatch on the bottom of the wing for the aileron servo. Where does the flap servo go?

If you look at the root end of the wing you will a hole recessed in the wing for the flap servo. I hope to maiden mine next week. In an earlier post the C/G is stated at 4-3/4 from the root. Would appreciate confirmation if some one could confirm. It looks about right since thats approx 25% of the wing cord. Appreciate any input. thanks mike |

What was the total weight of the BD5 when done? Just weighed mine as it comes out the box and it is a whopping 16 pounds. Mine is unpainted so I am guessing about 25 pounds ready to fly....??? Seems a bit heavy.......</p> |

That's about right. 20-22lb thrust engine should do well. Figure with the fuel tank it comes with, the weight on that full is about 5-6 lbs. Doc... |

Okay I have found some time to start working on my BD5. My version came unpainted with nothing installed. Just plumbed the retracts and was wondering how the nose wheel steering worked. Went through the box and found no mounting hardware for the steering servo or linkage. Looks like it uses pull - pull cable.
If anyone could post a quick picture how it is set-up I would appreciate it. Thanks, Todd |

I guess so right? I have always admired this plane, like most of us have, since seeing it in action in the James Bond film. I saw one video of the plane at some airshow and it looked like it handled pretty good, good manners on landing and such. Straight wing with flaps usually equals good flying characteristics.

I only used full throttle for take off, then I leave the throttle at 5/8. You can do what every you want at 5/8 throttle. BTW if you go this route (20lbers+) you need to redo the thrust line or you will have trouble. I have a post here showing what I did to change it (post #139) Frank |

Our Jet Central Rabbit 100 develops 22.5 lb thrust at 6000 feet. This is real thrust. The turbine weighs 2lb 3 oz. all up and averages 7 oz per minute. It is full auto kero start. The start takes about 40 seconds on the average. This Rabbit 100 is delivered in ks start mode however, gas start is also programmed in the FADEC. Simple change over for those who wish to use gas as their choice for starting. Side by side, the Rabbit is smaller than its competitors, generates more "real thrust" and is as user friendly as one could want. Reducing thrust takes less than a minute. A thrust / RPM chart is included in every manual. A thrust reduction to a suitable wide open throttle thrust for the BD-5 does not in any way affect any other operational parameter. Thanks for that info, I read your mod post very carefully and I intend to follow it by the letter. This Gen 2 BD is supposed to be a couple pounds lighter, I had already went with the Jetcat P100. Already looking down the road to another jet, so I will definitely be looking at the Jet Cental turbines. I'll keep you guys posted with build pics and detailed data when the build begins. Ron |

I was planning to-but my plate is so full right now I could screem trying to get the batwing ready for Toledo this yeareventually I'll be laying them up-the unit you see is all composite Nomex construction (same as dragon) I'm currently switching out the robart struts for trailing link
