I guess they are hand slots to help pilots into the cockpit, might be wrong though but spotted them one one of the pics you sent over.

RE: Loaded Eurofighter build thread
You're right marc, they are hand holds for the aircrew / groundcrew. There is a telescopic ladder in the panel underneath the strake that can be used if there are no steps available when landing away from home. The hand holds don't actually go all the way through, they're more of a finger grip for support when getting in.
Great work so far, I'm enjoying watching this thread, giving me lots of ideas! Keep it coming please!:D Chris |

Only a few bits done over the weekend, nice to take a break from work 1 & work 2 to spend time with the kids;)
Continued to glue the strakes in having added a thin sheet of polyply to the undersides to mimic the real thing with regards to the comments earlier in the thread that the hand holds did not go full way through, now they appear not to from the underside. Added a small dowel to the glue fillet on the underside to reinforce the area given the added equipment deck that will rest on top. When the Aeropoxy dries in the area of the captive nut panel I will then apply around the edges of the dowel along the sides of the fuselage. Internal shot of the side hatch hinges and made two formers to carry the gear air cylinder, the brake cylinder will be mounted on the other side in the same fashion. marc. |

Have sorted painted and almost finished the main electronic equipment deck that sits under the speed brake, just need to wire some Multiplex plugs into the white plastic mountings for RX battery charging. Hinged with spring opener the fuselage hatch.
Looking at mounting the air valves next... QUESTION: Is it considered OK to instal Jetronic air valves close to the Powerbox and RX units or should they be positioned in a similar vein to the pumps which I know need to be kept away from electronic items? |

RE: Loaded Eurofighter build thread
Great work marc! Does the access hatch lock closed for flight or is it on the spring pressure?
Chris |
RE: Loaded Eurofighter build thread
Chris,
The 'electric' panel is held shut by a spring pin and the fuselage hatch is held shut using the 'wire in a snake' method with the wire exiting at the trailing edge of the wing at the fuselage root, so is almost totally invisible but provides a very secure closure method. Marc. |

In an attempt to keep weight forward and leave room for a possible full depth cockpit option the brake, door and gear Jetronics valves and sequencer were mounted to the fuselage side just infront of the fuselage strake.

notice the copilot waving to you
in pic 4 cool |
RE: Loaded Eurofighter build thread
Fantastic photos lozza, before building this jet I hadn't really taken much notice, but the more I see and work on it the more it grows on me - kind of a 'concord' of fighter jets if thats a comparison that can legally be made;)

UAT.
Found a little space just ahead of the main tanks, between the ducting and fuselage side where the UAT (and hopefully the pump) will fit. I wanted to try to get it in a position where it could be easily seen and checked for air bubbles etc. The vents cut into the side of the fuselage provided a 'window' so it was a matter of making a suitable former to carry the UAT in the right position. A little bit of juggling and eventually the mounting tray was complete, the UAT should be visible through the cooling vents cut in the fuselage side, and can be released by removing one spring. I hope to also mount the fuel pump to the side of this tray as there is also room for this, I am going to Jetpower tomorrow so hope to pick up a mounting bracket for the pump to make things easier and neater. Might see some of you there:D marc |

Loads of brain bashing, very little progress, well seems that way!
Sorted and connected up the canard servos and adjusted the Matchbox, the system gives good travel in both directions, certainly well over the stipulated travel, and seems to be solid in respect of any play. Working on the smoke and main pump along with the solenoid valves for placement. A similar ply plate was made up to fit the opposite recess to the UAT tank setup, and to this the two pumps and the two solenoid valves have been mounted, puts them in a good range of the ECU and tanks generally, just need to work out fixing as this panel needs to be removable. Fitted out behind the fuselage door but the camera battery is dead so will post a few image tomorrow. marc |

Hi Dean,
Nice pic - definately looking good! Any chance you can post some close up pics of the gear doors/setup - especially the doors on the main legs. Cheers, Mark |

We spent considerable time getting the doors to work properly every time in the very restricted space. The pivot linkage ( clevis )is 43 mm long. The measurement from the top face of the trunion block to the clevis center is 60 mm. The measurement from the wing skin to the hinge pin ( opposite the clevis ) is 65 mm. This allows for the rotation and angle at which the door must travel with the landing strut.
