RE: SKYMASTER VIPERJET ASSEMBLE THREAD
The madien will be the day after it is complete. Not a day sooner;)
I know what your saying Ron. I put the 200 in my F-16 1/6 scale for vertical performance. The byproduct of this is I get better fuel economy. i fly here around at a click over half throttle most of the time, keeping full throttle reserved for pepper passes and vertical , got the timer set at 9 minutes and I still land with 30 or 40 ounces in the main tank. However, I am looking forward to flying the Viperjet with the 160SX. I think it will be a very relaxing plane that one can enjoy on landing and can also drop the hammer and haul the mail. Greenacre, Every plane has it's own attraction. The Firebird hauls ***** and looks mean, the Hog is down and dirty military scale flying at its best, The Skymaster F16 is crazy AOA, scale flight and sport flying,( probably the most all purpose plane I got) and the newly add Viperjet is gonna be my new kick back, have fun, go fast, knifedge for days, look good in the air , easy landing, all weather bird. As for the wifes tolerance, well, that why I married her.............or maybe it was the rack!:D Billy |

RE: SKYMASTER VIPERJET ASSEMBLE THREAD
ORIGINAL: schroedm As good as this kit is and the great value for money it offers, during my build I have come across areas that I would not trust if powered flatout by something like a 200! If you argue that you can just throttle back then why pop a 200 in it [8D] Go for a 160SX - should be more than enough. It's a slippery machine. What area of the jet would you modify for the larger turbines, beside vert stab and rudder, what else would you do. thanks Joe C!! |
RE: SKYMASTER VIPERJET ASSEMBLE THREAD
Joe,
Couple of the things I found: Very thin stab tube sleeves and not much glue holding them to fuse sides Internal fin structure that was not glued Some internal wing structure not glued Holes for retaining stab screws VERY close to edges Fin clamp that did not clamp properly This kit is great value for money and very nicely made in general so I am not knocking it. All I was saying to Ron was that before I cranked open a 50lb P200 I'd sort the above if he had the same in his kit. Hell, I'll be sorting most of them for mine 160 powered version! I was only trying to help - maybe I caught him on a bad day ;) Cheers, Mark |

We have had no issues with the kit other than landing gear retration. That problem was solved by adding more air bottles for volume. I will take it out sat and burn a little kero through the beast. By the way I do not fly around full stick all the time I only use the extra power for strait aways and verticals. There is no substitution for that extra power. Mark thanks for the help sorry for getting a little short. Ron |
RE: SKYMASTER VIPERJET ASSEMBLE THREAD
Ron,
Big hugs!! (manly ones!!) :D :D Let us know how it goes and post some pics/video!! Actually, whilst we're talking pics post a couple showing your install. I am in the middle of making/hiding equipment plates so I can get to everything without taking any of the cockpit out and without it looking crap! Cheers, Mark |
RE: SKYMASTER VIPERJET ASSEMBLE THREAD
Mark,
Thanks, I will have Henry go through the list you provided, Henry did notice some of your concerns already building Sung"s Viper, mine is also unpainted and will have Henry do what needs to be done no matter what engine size I decide to use. Mark will you be attending Florida Jets, hope to see you there, take care. Joe C!! |

I decided to put the elevators servos in the stabs. I saw a picture that showed the servos mounted to the fuse side for the elevators but putting them in the stab seemed like it would work just fine.

Got some wood dowels to epoxy into the carbon tubes for the stabs. I don't think it really needs it, but it doesn't weight much and worth the extra strength. A little extra piece of mind when she's hammer down;)

Got the rudder servo installed. Pretty much the same way as the stabs but with an 8711. I cut two blocks out of 3/4" ply( sort of like the ones supplied in the kit) Screwed them to the servo then shaped the wood to fit inside the vertical. It is also up against the vertical spar inside for extra strength.

Just checked on those carbon stabs, man they are rock solid now.
Next I made the supports for the fuel tanks. We don't need those things bouncing around inside there;). Made a couple brackets out of plywood. After the glue dries they can be removed with four screws. |
