SKYMASTER VIPERJET ASSEMBLE THREAD

Definatley not a build thread cause there's not much really to do.

After seeing Ron Long have all the fun this past weekend, I decided to get a little piece for myself( before he buys up all the Viperjets in stock:D)

The Viperjet looks very sleek in the air. Great profile for those wayout passes. This jet really caught my attention because of its broad flight envelope. It can haul the mail, knife edge like there is no tomoorw and talk about easy to land. This thing, if it came in any slower it would have been going backwards;) I think we found a new trainer jet with looks and size to boot.

Anyway here are some pics of the assembly. I got the pro version which has gear and doors installed and plumbed. Not much left to do but install servos and motor.

I am going with a p-160sx for power. Since I already have a super speed demon;) with a big block, I figured this would be a go choicefor pushing it around.

First little thing I did was mount the winglets. These little things are soo cool. I guess you could just put some glue on them and slide them on but I wanted to make them removeable just in case I break one or for transport.

I drilled a small hole for a #2 buttonhead screwdown through the carbon tube sleeve. Then slid in the winglet where I drilled a smaller pilot hole for the screw to achor into.
Now there on strong for fly'n and off quick when need be.

Yes indeed Mr. Long, yes indeed. Gonna look even sweeter with you on my wing tip at Desert Storm. Can you say, "Formation";):D

Four bolts and the nose is on. There is soo much room inside. Should be a fun one for the install.

Well back to work. It be nice to finish her by this Sunday[X(]

Check the BITW Photos and Video thread. I think George aka Crashpro will have some video of it up soon. He got pretty much every plane fly'n. Thanks again George.

Billy aint B.S.ing about how slow that thing lands- That last landing Presta pulled off, you would have sworn the Goodyear blimp ( almost used the Hinderberg for a comp, but with Dave and sparking powerlines and all that would have been in bad taste) was coming in for a landing- No $h1t two fast runners could have held the wingtips.

Billy,

There is a lot of room inside for the install but it is still a pain planning the install due to the full cockpit setup. The cockpits are very nice but fairly flimsy so will not put up with being removed everytime. I am in the middle of my install and have decided to trim the long grey areas behind the seats of the cockpits and using the gap this creates to put a plate across the fuselage with necessary switches etc on.

Let me know if you need any pics etc.

Cheers,
Mark

Sure, lets see some pics. I haven't looked that far ahead, but now that you mention it, that is a good idea.

Billy Scrimp....WOOOOHOOOO! I'm stoked for you bro, your gonna love it.
Yes this thing lands slower then any plane (I'm thinking back 25 years when I had a Carl Goldberg Eagle 63 with a K&B .40), and YES that includes a Boomerang. The great part is that it fly's slow and doesn't just float on by. Big flaps, big wing, light weight, incredibly clean outline make this thing the best of all worlds. I never got to open it up and do any Ron Long big ball passes with it, but half power was plenty of airspeed to stick it up on knife and watch it stay there as long as you want.
Can't wait to see Billy scrimp put it through the paces, your gonna love this bird........and its gonna love you!
Keep us posted bro,
Dave

Dave,
What motor choices do you are best for the Viperjet? Does it need a P-200??

I flew it with a P-200 at half throttle, I think Billy is putting a P-160SX in his. I'm sure we will have some great feedback on engine choices after Billy fly's this one.

As good as this kit is and the great value for money it offers, during my build I have come across areas that I would not trust if powered flatout by something like a 200! If you argue that you can just throttle back then why pop a 200 in it [8D]

Go for a 160SX - should be more than enough. It's a slippery machine.

First let me tell you that we were only flying around at half throttle because the gear was not up and I did not want to loose any of the gear doors. This kit looks every bit able to handle the power of the P-200 I will be testing it out this weekend and will let everyone know. I would suggest if you have not installed a P-200 and have not flown one with the motor in it, you should not offer your opinion as you really don't know. I will test it a let everyone know how the plane handles with the power, not what I might think it will do.

Hi,

It states very clearly in manual not to use more powerfull turbines than 16kg class unless you have modified it. We at Skymaster has tested with all kinds of turbines. A 12kg thrust turbine can do all the aerobatics at 5000ft including smoke on board. So a 16kg should be more than enough...;)

Please be carefull when powering the Viper with 20kg+ thrust going flat out!!!

Regards

Morne

RE: SKYMASTER VIPERJET ASSEMBLE THREAD

Ron,

The question was "does it need a P200" to which I basically replied "I don't think it does". My opinion and I'm entitled/sticking to it mate!

As Morne/Skymaster say the model should not be powered by more than 16kg without modification.

I hope it stays together for you as it will be a blast flat out. I just know that I'd be modifying areas of mine before I put 50lbs of thrust in it - maybe you didn't see the same issues I did when you built your one??!!

Cheers,
Mark

Thats awesome Billy! I knew that after seeing Ron's fly at BITW that there were going to be a ton more poping up. What a cool bird.

I can't believe how much bigger it looks then the 1:6 F-16 when they are sitting next to each other! After seeing the Big F-16 on P-160 power, I have no doubt it will move along just fine. Look forward to seeing it. Let me know when the maiden will be. [sm=thumbup.gif]
