Funny you just posted that Zetti as I pulled my engine out and when clamping it above the rails the pipe obviously needs to be raised at the engine but I can't get it higher without doing some sanding on the former in front of the servo tray. When the engine was mounted below the rails, that former was just touching the outer pipe which was perfect. Anyone else have to give relief to that former to accommodate the pipe when the engine is higher in the fuse?

Is it okay, if the tailpipe sits on the rear former of the servo plate construction, or should there be a minimum gap? I have fixed my turbine mount below the rails which gives an perfect alignment of the turbine and the tube (sitting on the former) with the thrust line going through the middle exactly (measured with a laser). Stephan The cool wall outer (ali) can touch the plate. I've even done one where I lightly dented the outer tube to give more lift in the tube. Dave |

Thanks for your responses guys! I am definitely going to be mounting the Cheetah above the rails. I just set it on the rails (as pictured) to get a shot. The Cheetah mounting tabs are centered on the turbine also. I will use that lazer pointer method to align the turbine and thrust tube as well. My buddy Jack D. has 3 Cheetahs so I believe his distance is as specified by the mfg. I wish they could put that in the Jetcentral manual though. I will ask about mounting orientation but it sounds like it is not critical.

Got the nose gear and doors installed but the air cylinders distort the doors when closed. They pull the doors inward and the ends stick up. Hopefully if I glue some wood bracing inside the doors it will help them to retain the fuselage shape. Now I see why they were done that way in the manual. I didn't think they were necessary but 100 psi turns out to be a lot of force.

That sounds easy enough, a wheel collar on the piston shaft then.
Zetti, to elaborate, there is a lot of discussion in this thread about the thrustline of the turbine and how it affects the Hawks handling. Placing the turbine above the rails (aircraft upright) angles the thrust line slightly down compared to mounting it below the rails. This offsets the Hawks tendency to pitch up during high thrust acceleration. The limit of how far you can move the turbine is when the thrust tube contacts the elevator servo mounting plate. But just mounting on the top of the rails is not a problem. |

I just finished putting in the nose gear and I gotta ask if it is OK to use the standard Dreamworks/BVM airlines on the big nipples that are on the CARF stock gear cylinders. It is obviously really hard to get them on, I had to stretch the tube a bit. and then there's that big transition after you are done... I did safety wire it but I am afraid the tubing might split? Maybe not though, that tubing is made of some tuff stuff!

Its a bit small on the bore, I used festo 3mm tube which was also a tight fit, but has been fine for the last 4 years

I debated which one to have for my first jet and ultimately got the Hawk just for that reason. But, a 160 powered UF would certainly make for a nice "second" ;)

I am certainly getting tired of wrapping and unwrapping this Hawk! Has taken a good 2.5hrs to mask up for the white bands...painting in am as soon as temps are up
Hope this is going to be worthwhile when she is finished... Think the next one will be all grey! Alan |

Paint I am using is by Lechler (Italian company) 2k Macrofan/Isoakryl with a white 2k primer which is needed for the red as this red is very bright. Mix is 2:1 with 15% 2k thinner, this type of paint covers very well and does not need to be heavily sprayed on to achieve good results

How do I pick of the fin? Tried to remove the hatch aft but seems difficult to get of due rudder.... |

You need down elevator to remove the hatch. Maybe they have not trimmed the sides quite enough. Dave PS, your UF legs left yesterday... |
