Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
1 Attachment(s)
Guys
Early Xmas this morning, I've unpacked both a Comp ARF Corsair and the new Hawk kit:D The Hawk is a first production item sent ahead so I can help with the building notes. I'll keep everyone posted and do a build thread as I go. (won't start for a few days as I've got another Hawk on the board to finish-Eflite EDF!!) So far I think they have another winner! Dave Wilshere |
RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
Dave,
Man thats a nice looking kit. The fillets I see around each is former tells the tail about the craftsmanship on these. What size turbine will it take for this kit? Keep the indepth photo's on this one coming. It's going to be a good one. Thanks for doing it. Roy |
RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
Does the builder have to use the aproved landing gear?
What gear is "aproved"? |
RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
Looks like this hawk will make a great home for my 160SX! ;)

RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
Nice looking plane..... but I'm specially interested on seeing your Comp Arf Corsair build thread. I'm trying to make my mind and see if I get one.... :D

RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
Dave,
Meant to ask, do we include the 3 flap linkage covers and the cover for the aileron linkages? Toying with the idea of one of these and fancy scaling it up as much as poss to match my Skygate Hawk. Cheers, Mark |
RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
Guys
Turbines in the P120-160 class are perfect. You are free to use any gear as normal, but the Comp ARF set up will just fit in. Quality of gear will be very high-German made. The kit is going to be offered with a Sports Scale gear to start with-photos soon. Simon...you are right...in Black! Not intending to do a Corsair build thread, sorry. So far I can't tell you what the final package will include...when I know I'll let everyone know. For sure the basics will allow a nice scale model, but things like the live Flap Hinging are meant to be Sport Scale...It's a perfect Scale Flash/Lightning follow-on model. Dave W |
RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
Looks nice Dave :D

RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
(WARNING! Slightly off topic)
Dave, Is that an AW T-Raven in the background? If so, wanna the sell the spinner? ;) Back on topic: Nice Hawk! :D |
RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
George
No, it's an Air Trade Raven. But I do have an AW Spinner we bought to try that does not match this aeroplane well enough. Dave |
RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
PM sent.

Stop posting pictures and end this thread immediately please. Trevor Skedge. |
RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
:DYou know you want one...in black also.
Going to be a pukka Grass model. Two bolts to fit the wings... Dw |

HEY DAVE you have some competition here in the US
I have an all white one that will be decorated like the T-45 GOSHAWK NAVY Trainer here in the US ( see pics ) I'm putting a WREN 160 in mine, should be fun... The box it came in is quite impressive! |

Mine will be flying soon, any questions on the build send me an email at [email protected]. There are a couple of later updates we have made that are easily done to these early kits. If you have an email address I can shoot you a couple of shots to help you with things like the elevator set up. Which landing gear are you going with? Regards Dave |

Tailor Made Decals have done it again! I had through two MDC canopy decal kits for my Hawk. This gives the finishing touch to the large canopy
Dave |
RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
The canopy decals is a "must" on the large canopy. Nice that someone makes them for us. We want more pictures in you build thread ! ;);)
Not bad to have tree? different landing gears to choose from as Digitech also released his version for this Hawk. But will we ever see the scale version? |

Maybe an answer would be to replicate what Skygate do on the big Hawk i.e. just use a plain old oleo and the fit a scale molded cover around the oleo?
Looks OK on mine.... |
RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
..introduced is the right word yes. Back in 2006 for 1999€ Can't be bought yet... Maybe no one want's it?
|
RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
The scale gear will be introduced-just smaller version of the SkyGate set up, price expected around 2000 euro, but in my mind worth every cent!-Beautiful work.
I hope Digitec did their home work and the gear fits! The scale gear is open when the load is off, so longer, if you make the gear the "landed" length normally, it won't fit in the wing. Regards Dave |
RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
i hope i did my homework then ;-)
to stay on topic i could use : build manual (not in box) i emaoled but no answers.. CG Elevator update you made? Rudder : where to cut , to put inside the Rudder? anything else that is interesting exept the Landing gear , that was least of the problems.;) also i have not seen a fuel tank , but funny part is that graupner has the fuel tank in stock for their hawk so i ordered that one instead... for the the rest it is a nice model , very light against a FeiBao i must admit. . impressive wing and elevator.. |

here is a picture
it is 3,6 liters so almost a gallon.. i hope it fits right away.. |
RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
I have a tank, I'm sure you should both have one too.
The Composite ARF tank fits perfectly The Graupner one will fit though. Sandor emailed some answers and pictures. More please email me regards Dave |

some pics from the Gear i made for it..
needed to make some changes to it , playing with different springs , making adaptors. the gear is extremely light , it is about 1.2 kilo’s give or take . oleo’s you see are still in "raw" state not anodised or final finish (tumbler& anodising). spring is almost correct can carry about 10-11 kilo’s until it has its correct height.. question is on rollout especially on grass , trailers have the tendency to go more backward , causing CG-gear to shift a bit , causing "heavy nose" rotation. we noticed this on the more heavy boomerang XL,s witch would do the same.. we are planning going on a short holiday in France and fly this for 1 week strait.. and test different springs.. |
RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
Finished the wing today..
extremely light i must add. Wing: 3300 gram incl 4 servo,s , landing gear , tubing and door cylinders... Fuse: 6600 Gram , incl nosegear , tank , turbine , servo,s , electronics. however we are NOT using powerbox , we are keeping it a sportjet version. therefore LIGHT. we measured the model today and came to a very conservative 11,4 kilo,s dry weight.. wich is not bad considering my Flash weighted 12.1 kilo,s dry weight incl a P-120 and some fuel left. needed to make more changes to the Landing gear , the pointy oleo door seems to make some small problems. i used : 2 x 8511 on the elevator 2 x 8411 on the ailerons (overkill but i havent got anything else) 2 x 8511 on flaps (needed , since the control horn on the flap is very short , you need momentum). 1 x 8411 on rudder. i concluded i will be using the Merlin 90 in this model i also used a Titanium thrust tube. pictures soon ;-) |
RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
Is this plane available in the US yet?
|
RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
Dubd
The first kits have shipped in the US. More are on the way now. These aeroplanes shown are the very first series, full production is just about in top gear now. The first flying aeroplane was shown at FJ. regards Dave Wilshere |

weather permitting , this weekend first flight. weight : 11,6 Kilo Dry weight No fuel anywhere.. incl engine (P-160SX) stuff used: Graupner A123 2300 x 2 for receiver Emcotec B.I.C for power distribution 2 x 8511 elevator 1 x 8411 rudder 2 x 8511 flaps 2 x 8411 ailerons JR 12X receiver 2,4 Gear: door cylinders : 2 inch Jet-1A 60N main retracts Jet-1A Wheels Jet-1A 125mm main 65mm front Oleo,s Pro-Lynx custom made Airpower Sequenser fail safe series in mode 1 2 x 2 way valves Airpower 1 x Brake valve Airpower Engine : decided to go for a P-160-SX , since we get lots of power on low rpm , good for noise Reduction the weight can have it thrust tube : replaced stock one with titanium one saves about 450 grams |
RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
Nice! did you have to add dead weight up front to achieve CG?
Where did you get the lighter thrust tube from? Please post some pics of your Turbine install... THANKS |

THANKS no weight needed i HATE lead or anything extra to level it out.. i will laser a new part if needed but not extra weight. will post more pics tommorow thrust tube (inside) comes from AMSW (Andi Mayer Special Works) :-) at jetcat |

Thanks, I ordered a lighter tube assy from TAMJETS, the one from C-ARF was not optimized for weight
I'm using a WREN 160, more than I will need but that's what the throttle is for (I like good vertical performance) I would lOVE to fly soon BUTY all I need is a fuel tank, radio tray, retracts etc... soon I hope! |

o yes FYI i used a Elan /Fuel tank 3,7 liter much better to fit somehow and use the original for smoke :D on the picture you can see the "floorboard" holding the main tank . the turbine is not covered by a full ducting , just a half one to keep the flames inside the tube. advantage is it creates lots of space for a smoke tank right on the CG.. |
RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
Were you able to balance without adding weight?
where IS the CG anyway? |
