RE: Another Skymaster Viper
ORIGINAL: cgroen My install so far, need to get batteries (right now it seems that I will need 3 pcs 2S/5000mA/H LiPo in the nose to get proper CG) and thrusttube installed, and the pilots should arrive in a couple of weeks :D The feedline from the UAT to the pump needs to be changed to 6mm all the way (with a small piece of 4mm over the inlet of the pump) |

Carsten,
Make sure your front cockpit tub fits with them there mate! Cheers, Mark |

Well Chaps,
Some more tinkering done, here is what I achieved so far. Made a cradle for UAT out of Balsa laminated with thin ply on the outside edges only. Connected up all the tanks and pump and locked wire where necessary, now ready for turbine install. Finished the cut out on the rear cockpit tub, modified rear seat for pilot so it sits better otherwise his head touches the Canopy, looks happy enough in his new home, wait till he gets flying, that will wipe the smile off his face! Mark do you reckon he looks like Kevin Saunders? Some more pics for you. H |

ORIGINAL: schroedm Carsten, Make sure your front cockpit tub fits with them there mate! Cheers, Mark Although the Viper is big, there is not (too) much room inside when the big tubs are installed. I have 3 mm clearence between the bottom of the front tub and the valve, so it will just fit! PS: hangarman, looks very good ! |

RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Guys,
Just making a few tweaks to my ViperJet ready for some winter flying and wondered what the general consensus was on canopy retention mods? Are people fitting hooks to stop the canopy lifting or tabs to stop the canopy bowing in/out? Looks to me as if hooks will be a pain to fit as 'hooks' due to the limited backward movement. Let me know! Cheers, Mark |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
All of the ones I have seen have had bvm style hooks and worked well. They shouldn't be too hard to fit, I've got some pics of Ali's somewhere, I'll have a look in the morning

RE: Another Skymaster Viper
We started to plan the turbine install last night and noticed something weird.
Has anyone else noticed that the rails for the turbine are at the wrong angle? Looking from the back of the fuz, you can see the rear of the intake is in line, but the front of the turbine rail is about an inch higher than the back of it, which puts the Turbine on a toatally different line to the thrust tube and intake. I thought it might have just been a mistake on mine, but we took the cover off Ali's Viper and it's exactly the same. Ali hasn't had any problems with it as it is, but i was puzzled as why something as basic as alignment could be so far out. Ali's has the tailcone of the 160 aligned with the center of the thrust tube, but the front on the turbine is higher due to the rail Duncan |

RE: Another Skymaster Viper
I can't see how it could be, the thrust line is determined by the thrust tube isn't it? all this is doing is pointing the gases at the bottom of the thrust tube, rather than down the center of it. Then again i'm new to all this, but my head says it's wrong;)

Sounds like I have a interesting job on the wings to come! Mark do you still have that pic? H |

The former can't go far enough back to only have 10mm of the thrust tube prtruding it. Stve built Ali's with the tube 5mm back from being level with the back of the fuz.
yea i think it's an optical illusion mate. It looks centred but it's actually pointing towards the bottom of the thrust tube. |

It looks centred but it's actually pointing towards the bottom of the thrust tube. then check the nottom of the pipe that must be really Blue and a big difference with the top of the pipe..dangerous! you can also use a piece of strait balsa and put it on top of the Bearer and mount it backwards , now you should see the true position if they are in 1 line all is ok , even if the complete thrustline pointing downwards. |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
That's not good mate. Won't that increase the chance of a pipe failure too?
I'd get the man to have a word with Anton and check what it's all about. Mine all lined up fine (not bad for a pre-production kit hey Al? :D :)) |

As the boys have said tailpipe could fail. Thrust tube has at least got to be inline with turbine output. <br type="_moz" /> |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
My kit is about a month old & the build is finished. I just checked my turbine/tube alignment & it is perfectly straight. I am using a Wren 160 turbine.
|
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
I think its an optical illusion..
The turbine is definitely in the middle of the pipe and there are no hot spots anywhere down the length of the pipe. Plus as beautiful as you drawings are guys I think they exaggerate the angle just a tad :D Mark.. Hows the nose on your viper jet? |
