RE: Another Skymaster Viper
My tubs were cracked as well, I glassed the bottoms with some 1.5 oz cloth and epoxy resin, much better now. I also used the carbon horn from the bandit arf rudder for my rudder. The horn sits further back on the surface because it is swept foward plus its a larger horn overal.

RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Not a complaint, but just wondered why such a well built ARF does not make provision to fit the rudder servo. I see some have fitted it in the fin & others in the fuse. I think I will cut out the fuse fin root & fit it there. Seems more secure.
I have also beefed up the nose gear mounting plate. It is only about 5mm thick ply. |

RE: Another Skymaster Viper
guys those carbon sets are ready next week
it will be a set of 14 horns pre cut and ready for glue. these are pre cut by a german company who makes ONLY carbon products for the DTM cars and some F1 teams. they now their stuff and they use a special mix to make carbon rods for max strength. carbon rudder horns are 2.5mm thick and they need the ball links Dubro (2322) also we will make a carbon reinforcement for the aft landing gear support. please mail me if you are interested Sandor |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Hi JC
I sanded them lightly with 220 and worked very carefuly as I found they are very fragile to the touch. |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Getting on well with the build. I have a part not on the parts list. It is a small fin (shaped like the tail fin) about four inches by two inches. It looks like some kind of ventral fin, but have no idea where it goes. Any ideas?
Edit :- Looking again at the parts list, it mentions a UHF antenna. Perhaps this is what it is? I don't see it in anyones Viper photos. |

I don't see it in anyones Viper photos. As you guessed, it's a scale antenna. It goes on the bottom, centered and more or less in line with the intakes. You don't see it often in pictures since it usually must be removed for transport. Some of us attach it with a couple of vertical pins and magnets to make it easily removable. Craig |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Thanks Craig. I think I will leave it off. It would probably be more bother than it's worth.
Liked the alternate vertical stab idea:D. |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Carbon reinforcement sets are ready for shipment this week
they consist of : 14 x 2.5 mm thick cross layered Carbon rudderhorns for use with Dubro 2322 (3mm heavy duty ball links 12/pkg). 2 x 2.5mm thick Carbon reinforcement plates for the landing gears 1 for each wing. price is on our website under Viperjet (skymaster) |

Sandor.
I obtained a second hand Viperjet and I need a set of retracts (or just oleos, wheels brakes) I heard from a friend that you were working this as well. When do you expect them to be ready? Thanks ;) Stig |

When do you expect them to be ready? Thanks ;) Stig we are just working on trailing oleo,s , the wheels and brakes from Skymaster are very large (125mm) you need to order these from the factory i am afraid. same goes for the Retracts themselfes , we are thinking doing Behotec c-50 for them , but i will need to check this out as soon i finally get to work on my own Viper . every time i am getting mine , it has been sold again to other customers ;) |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
OK, thanks Sandor.
I talked to John/Skymaster and he told me they don't have retracts available at the moment and that they only supply them new customers who buy a Viperjet kit, until they have more sets available.[&o] I'M NOT VERY GOOD AT WAITING..... ;);););) I need to look for a PLAN B then. :D |

RE: Another Skymaster Viper
BTW,
the Viper I received at JetPower, has the two "hooks" in the canopy frame, although not hooks, just some ply tabs, but should do the job |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
My build continues on the Viper I received a week ago. There were no hard points in the elevators. Easy fix. I cut a hole in the elevator root & fitted them. I am using double horns With ball links.
I hope the same guy didn't make the wings. |

The manual explains to mount the elevator servos in the stabs, I found it very hard to fit them there, and even harder to make room in there for the ply to attach them to.
I choose the fuselage mounting instead, makes it a lot easier I think (and no connectors, which is nice). Now I'm just waiting for the carbon double horns from Digitech, then I will discover if there is any hardpoints in my elevators [:o] |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Looks like a tight fit indeed Carsten.
Hope you did get the hard points ;) My viper is finally finished (production), so I should be able to start on the build in one or two weeks :) :D |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
I fitted my elevator servos in the fuse. It is a much more solid fit. Fitting them in the stab looked weaker & more difficult. I did the same with the rudder.

RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Hard points are in my wings ok. Be careful, the threaded screw holes in a couple of my metal servo brackets stripped easily. The threaded holes seem slightly too large for the screws. I used better quality ones. The supplied screws are also too short. Use longer ones.

RE: Another Skymaster Viper
My vertical fin has two large carbon dowels comming out of them instead of one small and one large, also my canopy frame is closed on the back side. I wonder if this is there latest change?

I just started my Viperjet.
Here are some pictures how I manage to attach the 8711 to the stab. Now I have to do the other one.....[:o] lots of fine carpentry there: |

I mounted the rudder servo the same way as the elevators.
Now I'm just waiting for the double carbon horns from Digitech, I really don't understand why Skymaster is delivering the plastic horns they do, they only go around 6 mm into the surface, on a plane that weights around 20..22 Kg ! I would also be afraid that they eventually would crack due to exposure to sun etc ? All my surfaces will be done using the double carbon horns with a ball link between them, and alu servo horns. |
