Very nice. Do you have a servo list for the plane ?

Thanks

This is what Tam used in his. The servos are Hitec 225MG for the flaps, Hitec 645MG for the ailerons, Hitec 5125MG for rudders, Hitec 5245MG for elevators, Hitec 225MG for nose steering and Hitec 85MG for retract valve.

Have you already recieved your parts? If you are talking about the front door that swings to the side, they hinge at the tabs. With a little dialing in you should be able to get them to work fine. I used some basswood in the fuse to attach the hinge to with a bolt or screw. You may also need to trim the door down a little bit on the hinged side. This is the only picture i could find of it. The second picture shows the hinges Tam used.

Cockpit is coming along. Been having a problem with scaling gauges down and they are looking blurry. I have fixed that problem in a different software but it keeps shutting down on me before i get finished. Hopefully have them finished tonight. I also have to rework the side panel gauges so they fit a bit nicer. That trial and error thing wont go away.

Hi Chris,

Just rcvd the bits today! Look great and survived the post system!
Will use your hinges as i cannot get the standard offset hinges to work no matter where i mount them!

Looking forward to the cockpit kit, looks fantastic.

Know a good source for pilots for these? Struggling to find a nice 1/9 scale pilot, would really like one similar to the 1/6 ones with proper clothing etc rather than a painted one.

The cockpit is excellent. We will all need to find a good scale pilot to do it justice.

Ya James, i never had good luck with those aftermarket hinges. I dont know how Tam got his to work but its possible after looking at his. I think they look to bulky on the door though.

As for pilots, the only decent looking ones i have seen are on the aeroloft site. Not very good picture of them, so i cant be for sure on the quality. Unless i dont see them, i am surprised there is not more out there. It may be better to take a figure and have your wife stitch up a suit. You may also want to contact John or Lowell, the old distributors of the kit, from rcjetsdirect.com. They sell scale pilots but am not sure what scale they are. The A10 is a 1/9.5 scale.

Cockpits are ready, so if anyone is interested you can contact me when you are ready.

thanks

I was unable to finish the install of the front strut on Tams A10 because he did not want me to glue in the nosegear formers. The front strut on Ty's A10 was cut down to a 6.5'' over all length.

chris
Went to cut down the front strut, but if i do this, i won't be able to get the insert in place, nor any real length of the pin from the retract mech into the strut, because of the blanking plug welded into the strut to stop the spring moving... anyone else have this issue?

Chris the cockpit looks awesome!

I'm pretty sure those aeroloft pilots are century jet pilots. I could be wrong but that is what they look like.. I'd call them to find out.
Here it a link to the century jet pilots.. they are OK.. not the best: http://centuryjet.com/index.php/cPath/46_38

but there is just not a lot of options out there for pilots

Hi James
I wonder if those plugs have a set location when they assemble them or if they just throw them in there. If i remember right, on the ones i did, the cut was past the plug and i just used the insert for the stopper. I will have to check the remnants that i still have at my shop to see if the plug is still in them. Tam ordered a different insert for the front and had them pressed in so no need for the allen screws. They come out very nice that way. I dont know why, but the ones robart gives you, need to be drilled out to fit the steering shaft. Tough material to drill but i put it in a vice and started with a smaller bit and worked my way up to the right size. Just make sure you end at the right size bit so it is nice and snug. Small amount of play will give it alot of slop. You want it to where it almost needs to be hammered in.

Thanks Ron. Although it took time to get it right ,I am very pleased with the way it came out. I fixed the side panels and put the 3 gauges that go in the right side panel. I will post some pics of it when i get a chance.

Thanks for the info on the pilots.

thanks

Man does that ever look good Chris
I wish I could get one of these and twin Stu Max it...he has a new 100mm and 120mm that would be awsome in the bad boy

another cool option and much cheaper would be the new Electric Jet Factory Dynamax Conversion Kit, with this setup you can just buy two used dynamax fan or new
pick up either the scorpion 630 kv, Hyperion 630 KV or the Hacker Electric Turbine A50-12L 640 KV

These are all really great and cheap setups.. you can build one of these fans for $400 bucks with a new Dynamax and even cheaper if you get used... one of these weighs 1 lbs 14 oz.
I think two 10s 45c 5000 mah setups would be pretty hot in that bad boy... I bet you would hit 25 pounds with with almost 4000 watts to each fan... so near 8000 watts
That's over 300 watts per pound and would fly and sound amazing!!

RE: CGRCJets A-10 Build Thread

Dynamax fans are too big Ron. Especially for scale. Tam's 110mm fan is the perfect size and light weight......if he ever gets them done.

Are you sure? Chris has ducting for the E-Turbax and this is what his proto type flew on. As far as I know the Dynamax will fit in E-turbax ducting.. I saw a yellow F-16 with stock ducting that had an E-turbaxc in it.. the stock ducting is made for the dynamax
So I would be interested to know if it would fit.. I believe it will

Tams fan would be great also.. but man in this twin your talking $2000 in fans... if you bought the electric jet factory kit and built the dynamax's yourself you could do it for $800 buck for both fans and save $1200 bucks. Something to look into for sure

Chris do you have ducting for a 128mm fan?

cgrcjet 06-30-2010 02:14 AM

RE: CGRCJets A-10 Build Thread

The Dynamax would fit but it weighs more than the E-turbax. Now that we can throw the batteries more forward, you dont have the issue of adding dead weight. It would still be fine even if you added dead weight. You would just have a heavier A10. I was told that one flew at almost 40 lbs. set up with two p60's. Not sure how nice it flew. Tam did shave off a good amount of weight with his new fan setup with dynamax rotor.

The biggest ducting would be in the E-turbax size fan. Tam supplies ducting for his tj100 for the A10. I have another inlet for 110mm. The one i am building for Mark right now is suppose to be set up with stumax.

I was thinking you could put it on a shelf. That same thought crossed my mind the other day, that you may not want to fly it. But you have to because we need to test it with a fully loaded weopons system. I still need to weigh all the weopons. I am thinking with the drop tank , fully loaded will be an extra 2-3 lbs.

RE: CGRCJets A-10 Build Thread

Ron I didnt say it wouldnt fit. Its a matter of scale. It wont look right with over sized fans. Chris did such an amazing Job making these that I would hate to detract from it's scale lines. 110mm is the max I would go to keep it scale and light. You still have the high blade count with tams fans too so it will sound scale cause A-10's are extremely quiet compared to afterburning Fighters. Yes it will be expensive and I am ready for that issue. It pays to go all out when you are doing it right if ya know what I mean? It's costing me over $1,000.00 for servos too cause I am buying all JR Digital High voltage servos for mine. The landing gear/struts/retracts/failsafe/etc... cost around $900.00 +/- so whats another $2,000.00 when your in it this much anyways? I'm doing it right the first time. I learned my lesson's trying to save a buck. Sometimes it works and other times it causes you to be minus a jet.

Chris did you ever try and calling me yet?? I didnt get any messages on my home or cell phone yet. But I sometimes have issues with reception at home.
