Morning Chris

Yes the fans arrived this week. Ive had the coloured all black which should look better in the housings.

What do you think the final weight will be ?

Mark
Mark
If you can, get me the exact outside dimensions on the exhaust side of the fan. Correct me if i am wrong, but i believe reducing to 80mm is the most efficient for the stumax. I have a friend that does sheet metal for a living and i have a design idea for some scale thrust tubes. I have done a bit of sheet metal in my day but dont have enough time to mess with it. The design will be a tube within a tube with a 3 degree pitch for the inner tube seeings 80mm is a bit out of scale.

Hi Chris,
Not sure where you got an 80mm exhaust diameter for the Stumax fans? Maybe ZB at Esprit has tried one choked down that small?
You are talking either the SM110-52 12blade or the SM110-45 4blade correct?

Usual is 87mm-85mm and I have heard that ZB has tested one at 83mm. I fly my Maverick with 87mm.

Cheers,

Hi Chris

Speed is Life is correct to my understanding,

That sounds great if the thrust tubes could be worked out. Am I correct in thinking the thrust tubes are to keep the airflow of the elevators?

The fans are Stumax multi blades from Australia or from Espirit models in Florida who I have dealt with from the UK and were excellent

Hope that helps

I am thinking about making my BAe into an electric....system. But with all the bad ones out there finding a good one is a task.</p>

Ah Hem...Mark.
Not to put too fine a point on it, however"Esprit" is but one of TWO authorised North American suppliers of Stumax fans.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/biggrin.gif
The other would be myself DBA "Performance-EDF, LLC"website performance-edf.biz

We did the 1st everpublic debut of the SM110-52 at the Arizona Electric Festivalback in January2008 and have been involved with Stuart Maxwell and pre-release testing of his fans since the beginning.
Steve Haynes (AKA Whistling Watts) used to have a u-tube video of one of those initial flights. It can be seen on my website at the bottom of this page:

Chris: Sorry to diverge, didn't want to hijack your excellentWarthog thread. Now, back to your regularly scheduled program......................

Thats right. I remember now. I was just shooting a number off the top of my head and was hoping to be corrected so i wouldnt have to search. Thanks for the info because i will be starting the mock up this next monday. Mike, are you going to be using your stumax? Have you started yours yet? I still need to send you out a few necessities.

thanks again
chris

Hi Chris,
This last Spring and Summer has been the pits.........no time for new builds or even much flying. With luck I can start (I hope) on my A-10 sometime this Fall? Would be fun if I could get it finished for the Arizona Jet Rally in November.
I think I'm going to try a pair of the 11blade 100mm Stumax when I can get them.

Haven't bugged you for the extra parts since there has been no rush;)

I'm really impressed with those weapons that you have done, looking good! Mk-82's, Rockeye, and Maverick woo hoo!!!!

Cheers,
-Mike

Yes. On Tams test flight he had some blanking of the elevator at high speeds with the mylar thrust tubes which went straight out. A 3 degree pitch up helped with this. I dont remember having this problem with the other planes but it wouldnt hurt. Ofcourse they were using different setups.

87mm on my exhaust with my Stu Max 110-52 is the sweet spot in my Spark

This A-10 is going to sound sweet! with a nice Stu Max in there

Did a simple mockup today out of galvanized for the thrust tubes. I will be making them out of stainless tomorrow. Almost thought about doing a thrust vectoring style nozzle for fun.

I started cutting out the parts for the Aces II ejection seat today. The side pieces will be used as a plug for a casting mold in which i still need to add some detail to before i make the mold. The bottom and back part of the seat will be cut from phenolic paper sheeting and then i will see if my wife cant sew me up some cushions to go on both these areas. I still need to finish designing the top part of the seat.

Hey chris when I went to the airshow out here the AF let me actually sit in the cockpit of one of these. I have some panel pics too. Here's is a link at Tam's of the pics. They are in there somewhere. Amazing time I had talking with them. When you get all the cocpit stuff worked out I will be buying all the armament, pylons, cockpit stuff from you. The pics are worth checking out. I'm not the best photographer so bare with me.

Looks like it was alot of fun. Looks like you had some nice aircraft to check out. The A10 is a cozy plane to sit in. I was able to sit in a couple of them last year, but only after the spectators left.

Hows the A10 coming along? Tam should be testing out his 110mm pretty soon in the A10.

It's not yet. I am suffering a few financial setbacks. Thats why I didnt call you yet either. It sucks!! Too many high dollar things going at one time. I meant to ask you did you include 110mm sized nacelles in my kit? I didnt bother to check. If not how much? And how much for a full armament kit along with pylons and a full cockpit kit?? You can pm me if ya want.

cgrcjet 08-19-2010 11:46 PM

RE: CGRCJets A-10 Build Thread

I know how that goes. I think we have all been in that spot a time or two. As for the nacelle, it is 110mm. I will get you a deal on a full armament setup, i just need to figure out the deal first and i will get back with you on it.

thanks

Ha!! You sound like me now. LOL!!! Thanks Chris. I do plan on starting it in the fall as long as nothing else gets me in the meantime. Just get back to me whenever.

I dont know if you ever seen one of those Boeing Dreamlifters in person? But they are friggin gigantic. The fuse is super massive. You can fit a kc-135 in it with the wings and stabs off no joke. Very interesting jet!

RE: CGRCJets A-10 Build Thread

Never seen one of those in person. I went to the chico airshow a few years back and seen the C-17 demo. Incredible that a plane that huge can do an 80mph slow fly by. It looked like it was sitting still in mid air. I thought it was going to drop out of the sky. Amazing the short amount of runway on landing it had taken. But my real reason for going was ofcourse the A10 demo. I will send you pm.

thanks
chris

Hi Chris,
If you plan on selling the cockpit interior and the weapons as separate options, I would be interested to know the price of each. My kit is about the same size as this one so maybe I can get you some more sales.

My build thread is at http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_98..._6/key_/tm.htm
The product spec is at http://www.wowplanes.com/product_inf...34b934ae4b5c96

Has anyone finished and flown a CGRC A-10 using either the Stumax or Dyn-E-Max fans. If so, what was the flying weight (including batteries), how did it fly, and what was the electrical setup (fans/motors/batteries/ESC/etc)? Thank you.
