Thanks Paul!
I will start the weathering on it tomorrow. Had taken me about 7 tries and a week to weather the last one. Very fine line with weathering and im still a bit of a newbie on the airbrush. I think it will be a bit easier this go around. thanks chris |
RE: CGRCJets A-10 Build Thread
Chris,
Looks great! I'm really liking all those rivets and raised panel details. Can't wait to see the weathering and final paint on it. MarkN |

Figured out my weathering problem. Was using the same paint i used on the false canopy. It has a 1:1 mix ratio with the thinner/ catalyst. I needed to thin it down while putting it through the airbrush, but at the same time it would set up just enough to slightly clog the gun and when that happened, it would throw off an inconsistent pattern. I used this on the last plane i did and struggled with it. Im such a newbie. I got some black and white testors acrylic and mixed them to a decent color and added testors thinner. What do you know. No more gun problem. Let that be a lesson to ya.

Close up. Its hard to see the weathering in the pics. Very subtle amount is what i like or it starts looking overkill.

Hi Chris,
Any updates on the jet? Last we spoke you were waiting for landing gear. Just curious as to what kind of timeline we're looking at for delivery. Thanks, MarkN |
RE: CGRCJets A-10 Build Thread
Hi Mark
Not sure if your out of town but i tried calling a few times. I have been out of town myself with the holiday stuff. Retracts are still in a bit of re design stage. I believe i had talked to you about the electric setup but its been 3 weeks now and down and locked has not got back with me on a design. I talked to them on 3 occasions as a reminder to see about a design and they are lagging on getting back with me, so i guess i will be going elseware. Not sure if that would have worked anyway because actuator length would have been almost twice the length for it to work. A local buddy of mine has a machine shop and i stopped in today to show him what i was looking for. I was not sure about his capabilities, but he says it will be easy for him and that i will be impressed when hes finished. I told him i was in a bit of a rush ,so hopefully we can see something soon. Tam has discontinued the wheels that i have been using on the A10 ,so i may have this guy machine some scale rims and brakes as well as make some molds so i can make my own tires. The A10 is finished besides a few little minor things and the retracts. Hopefully i will know a bit more this week on the retracts. thanks chris |
RE: CGRCJets A-10 Build Thread
Chris,
That is a lot works you put in that built kit. Hope someone pay you good money for it. If he get if for cheap. He must be lucky guy. About the wheels.... I don't make enough on wheels and last batch of wheels order it done 2006. It took me 4 years to sold out and beside most of the kit come from china come with wheels. I got guys once awhile looking for wheels and number of wheels sale it too low to had it back in production again. Sorry about that. Now most of the wheels/brake I sale it for EDF use mostly. That I still make here in the house. But the market for heavy duty wheels is gone. |
RE: CGRCJets A-10 Build Thread
Tam
Definately alot of work. Your wheels were the best match for this kit. I looked all over for wheels for this kit for a long time and unless people were willing to pay $500 for some scale wheels and brakes from Glennis, yours were the next best fit. Dont think people would have went for that price. Oh well, something will come around again. Any testing with the 110's in your A10 yet? thanks chris |

If you can order 10 sets. I'm sure can make something that look scale for sure and cost less than that. |
RE: CGRCJets A-10 Build Thread
Looks great Chris, looking forward to getting it put together. I'll be attending the AMA convention Friday and Saturday to pick up more parts for the "Hawg".

Although I truly do not recall the request for a conversion on the A-10 If we have caused any inconvience for him we truly regret that and wish him all the best with his aircraft. Mitch Stott |
RE: CGRCJets A-10 Build Thread
Hi Mitch
Apology accepted. I know we all get a bit busy at times. If you still think there is a way this will work, im all ears. (805)286-7227 thanks chris |

Hi Chris,
Any progress on the gear? It looks like I won't be up that way until mid February, so we may have to make arrangements to have it shipped to me. MarkN |

RE: CGRCJets A-10 Build Thread
ORIGINAL: markbrown65 I have trial fitted the wings tonight and have trial tested the c of g at the 4'' rear of the leading edge and with the 12s x 2 Turnigy Nano 5000s it balances. I will have a test later to see what happens with all the wheels up as this should put it nose heavy. The Turnigys run at 4000watts full throttle so bundles of power. The battery location is good as I intend to make two battery holders that fit in through the main access hatch and ill leave the cockpit closed. Ill post some photos soon. Ron what was your flight times on the Spark ? Mark |
