RE: My Apologies
ORIGINAL: Nightwalker ORIGINAL: arizonasun25 Paint fumes Ron, I wasn't there, but hashing it out here does nothing for the betterment (yea I know word/spelling) of the RC Jet Community. A guy comes back on to say he's sorry, another guy says that's to everybody and that's the end of it over here. First off, I completely disagree - if hashing things out allows people to learn what is gonna work, and what isn't, in the realm of rep's' interactions with the customer base, then IMO that's all for the good - and not just for BV and the way a number of his rep's handle situations - but for all manufacturers and hence the community at large. Why walk away from a potential learning experience ? (Unless you already know are there is to know) Secondly - maybe I'm missing something, but I just don't get it ... if you don't care to read what's in this thread, why not just quit reading it, instead of repeatedly trying to sidetrack the thread ? Or, should all of the people who don't care to read about plastic models go over into your B2 thread, and sidetrack it with posts about ping-pong world championships, recipes for pinto beans, and other such nonsense ? Would that seem reaonable ? Surely it's just simple courtesy to let others with an interest in this topic hash it out - whether it be Justin, Bags, or any of the other 'contraversial' BV rep's trying to put their side across, or whether it be the people who were upset by the comments trying to explain why they were (or still are) unhappy about the situation ... what on earth is wrong with letting them exchange views it to see if there can be any common ground salvaged out of the situation, and/or learn from this so as to try to avoid repeating such gaffes ? And FWIW - Justin - I believe your comments were definitely over the line this time, but I'd still buy you a beer any time we met up. To me, a friend isn't someone who I think is always perfect - a friend is someone whose faults you are well aware of and yet something about them makes you still like them. This admission might make me a tad unpopular with some people, but such is life ; I try to agree or disagree with individual statements / opinions - rather than with people - as I figure we ALL have some good points and some "less than perfect attributes" (no, that doesn't mean A cups ! ;) ) Gordon |

Naaaa, I got my snorkel so I'll be alright. :D Seriously though..........high stakes, slim margins, survival of the fittest. That's what's going on, more so now than ever in the jet community. There is enough room for all to exist; HOWEVER the one rule which always must be followed is common curtosey and MUTUAL RESPECT for each other as pilots, competitors and advesaries no matter what the level, we all exist in this hobby as human beings, regardless of where we are from or where we've been. This is our forum, world and universe. We've made it what it is now, its only us that can keep it the way we want it to be. Everybody keep doing your part whatever that may be, running a business, manufacturing or hosting a show, and the rest of us will do our best to help you out. At least I know I will, and by the looks of the support from usual host of manufacturers and companies, they're all on board as well. Alright enough of the violins here..............Fight's back On.............EAST COAST RULES!! :D Till Lakers come snap us back in a few months...........;) |

RE: My Apologies
In all seriousness, there are two sides to this story.
Bags and Justin were showing some serious disrespect to the guys at the Arizona event, and the public name calling is just stupid. But, if you read between the lines, then you also know what brought up this animosity in the first place. There are a breed of flyers who have more money than flying skills, and they do represent a very dangerous aspect of our hobby. I will not mention any names here, because we all probably know someone who matches the description. A majority of us have learned to fly jets the hard way. We started with prop planes, got into ducted fans, got better and better at flying and transitioned into turbines. We have one or two jets that we meticiously maintain and make sure that they are in top notch condition to fly. Crashing a jet is a major setback both in hours spend rebuilding and money lost, so we make damn sure that we are on top of our game, both with flying skills and maintenance. But then we have the new guys with money to burn. They don't have to learn to build or even do a field repair, so they are pretty much clueless of the inner workings of the jets. Most of them have "on staff" builders and repair guys, and the common denominator with this group is that they went from a Boomerang or similar trainer to heavy metal, big block jets in no time flat. And many of them would not be able to hit the runway 5 landings in a row. I know several guys who would not be able to perform 10 back to back flights without their pit crew being there to fix the jet in between flights. We all break stuff, make bad landings or stuff a plane now or then. But, some pilots would do themselves and the rest of us a huge favor by leaving their trophy planes at home and learn how to fly with something that matches their skill level. There is no shame in flying a Boomerang or a Bobcat. Granted, they won't win the awards for best this or that, but they will make them a much safer pilot after 300 - 500 sucessful flights. This is probably where the misguided attack came from in case of these two BVM reps. Personally I think this could have been done in a much more civil way. Maybe starting a thread about the issue without calling out people and have a debate about it. |

RE: My Apologies
Plain and simple.......................David Shulman showed up at the Sun Valley Flyers Jet Rally and literally stole the show with his flying skills and friendly demeanor.. The BVM Team decided not to show up. David left BVM on less than friendly terms a couple years ago............Soooo a couple of Western U.S. BVM hotheads got all *****-hurt and had to rain on the parade to save face even though they were not there....................IMHO.....
It has NOTHING to do with SAFETY......................It's all ego driven..............Next time send Dustin Buescher! Tailwinds, John |

RE: My Apologies
If this is what they mean, what does it have to do with my jet rally? I understand why they take the cheap shot at David Shulman. He is not on the team anymore and he had a mishap. It is an easy (but cheap) shot to take, and probably applauded by BV (after reading what he posted on his site).
Why bash the other pilots that were there? There were 3 turbines that did not land on the runway at the meet, all of them were engine shut downs. All the planes are repairable. That seems like a safe event. There weren't any destroyed aircraft at this event. ORIGINAL: Hugh Heffner In all seriousness, there are two sides to this story. RE: My Apologies
Mr. 5 post Hugh, you may be reading between the lines, and you may have a point in some cases. However if you refer to Ron Long, then you are wrong. He may not be a builder, but he is a safe pilot. And, being a builder or not has nothing to do with flying skills.
I've never seen Shui build anything, but he can outfly anyone, (even if the BVM website states otherwise[:@])so that is a good example of someone who does not fit your description. It is really sad for me to see all this name calling. Especially since all involved parties are friends of mine. So Justin, Bags, Ron, Doug, everyone... please shake hands virtually and move on. Fighting on the internet is useless, there are no winners. You all know we'd be having a blast right now if we where sharing Ron's cooler of hurt and talking about ways for Monique to pose the next time |
