Default TMAXX upgrade help for newbie/oldie

I put this up in the nito forum, then found the moster truck forum, oops.

I have had a pile of rc cars between 1975-1990. but things have really changed.

I was planning on starting back into rc cars with a 2.5 TMAXX.

It used to be all cars had a few weak points and upgrade spots that really did help.

What do you TMAXX guys like? There is a ton of after mrkt. and Traxxas upgrade parts.
Which ones are worth it?

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks,
Chas

the t maxx is a great truck to start back in with. for a while your truck will be fine, but after a bit it can take a beating. If you want to go the aluminum way hardcore racing parts are very good. if you want to save weight and go with the plastic/nylon go with RPM. they have great parts and has a great warranty plan. if you break it just send it in and they will give you new parts no questions asked!!

get everything RPM

a fantom .18 engine when the 2.5 makes you POed

a strong(120+oz in of torque) metal gear servo

and some aluminum bulkheads if/when you break the plastic stock ones

either way, just replace what breaks.

oh yeah, and aluminum shocks

Avistarpilot is right on the money. The best bet is to (as Flatlander_14 describes) "just replace what breaks". You can spend a ton of money trying to bulletproof it ahead of time but that never seems to work or you will spend more than you need to

Just a question....does it have to be a T-Maxx? We have three T's and they are great....but for what it's worth, don't forget about the Savage!

Get a Fail Safe, fuel filter, throttle return spring, and a tempeture gauge. Then upgrade the rest as you go.

You have 3 t's do you have a savage? if you were starting out with no cars would you get a couple of t's or savages, and why?

Thanks,
Chas

I have Maxx's and if I were buying a new MT today I would wait until Traxxas upgraded the Maxx to a BIGBLOCK and beefed up the tranny and a few other points! The Savage is a better choice as it stands right now. Wait and get the "New" RTR .25 Savage. It should be out in a month or so. Traxxas will have a new Maxx but when???
