1st MT
Greetings fellow Hobby enthusiasts,
I am in search of a MT to buy, build, and run with my son, we've already jumped head first into the Heli industry together
with an amazing amount of building, learning and flying hours. You cannot really put a cap on the amount of things to do
with choppers, but I would like to broaden our horizons. What better way than to shake things up a little and go from air to land.
I was thinking of going with a car, but I have to look at it from 2 different perspectives. One from a 22 year old dad(kid), and a 5 year old(kid)[8D]
I think we would both benefit from an MT
My son has become quite the little technician, starting in the hobby when he was only 2. Now he maintains our best heli and is learning to hover with training gear (of course I'm hooked up on a separate TX with a buddy line, just incase we have any technical difficulties.
Anyway... I apologize for the long dragged out introduction but it seems necessary for our new task at hand.
* Finding the best MT available.
I don't know whats best, whats worst, or whats worth spending the money on, or whats not?
I wanted to go with an MT Kit just so we would gain the experience on the building, maintaining, and upgrading aspects of the hobby.
But then again, the RTR options out there are vast, and must be for a reason, simply stating RTR is cheaper, getting more for your buck and guaranteed to be built correctly.
Also the RTR kits come with a TX(Radio) but I also heard some of the TXs sold outside of a RTR kit have many more options for the money.
I.E.> The Airtronics M8 3-Channel FM Light Novak.
I've read alot of the posts here and have seen many discussions on the Savage, Mammoth, Tmaxx, Mad Force, and the LST.
Mad Force being more of the pricey kits available.
These are the trucks we are currently looking at to purchase.
We are trying to get up and running in time for our vacation time in July,
so any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Tweedy Bird

RE: 1st MT
If your going to buy a kit i will definetely say HPI savage ss. But for rtr's i would narrow down to the XTM mammoth or HPI Savage 25. The lst also seems to be a great truck but the 560$ price seems to be too $$$$$$$$$$$ for me lol. Ask any questions hopefully i can answer them.

I can get a savage ss kit for 360.00
So just looking at the price ranges at this point, How and why do they differentiate themselves so much?
Does one come with better parts than an other? or a higher performance engine, pushing up the price range?
the LST sounds really good, but its not out yet, theres no input on it, and no word of upgrades as of yet.
Then the mad force at 700.00, to me someone charges astronomical prices for either a name or a geniunely good peace of equipment.
Help.

UMmm the madforce is not 700$. It is 329.99$ at towerhobbies. The mammoth has a more powerful engine than the madforce( madforce has the weakest mt hp engine out their but the 3 speed tranny makes up for it) and the savage. And from wat i hear from the global forums and my friend the mammoths engine is very easy to tune and very reliable.

You mention the Mammoth or Savage, but what about the Mad Force at 700.00 just for the kit? and the LST which I think I saw a price for the Kit at almost 600.00.
I can get a savage ss kit for 360.00
I can get a savage ss kit for 360.00
Wherever you got those prices from......RUN AWAY!!!!!!
Seriously though, you can get the Mad Force Kit for $300.81 and the Savage SS Kit for $339.99 at Tower Hobbies PLUS get $10 off more for purchases over $99. (that would pay for shipping).
The Mad Force wheelies on demand so your kid might have more fun w/ that, but they are both good trucks.

RE: 1st MT
well I think an un-built kit would be very educational to the maintanance of the truck, not to mention
I had a hell of a time building all of my heli's
The Genesis and the LST look like they would be fun to build,
but I'm still looking at the Mammoth

RE: 1st MT
Tweety the LST and genesis are also RTR. THere are really not much kits available anymore. RTR has taken over
I was looking forward to building one, well I'll just have to get 2 then
I know I can get a kit for the savage ss 25 there is one on the shelf in my lhs.
although it looks like it has been there awhile [&:] (dust and no shrink-rap plastic on the box)
wow what a thought, a noob to the hobby and already buying 2 trucks @ once. "Somebody Stop Me!" [:-]
well the savage is a definate but that still leaves a RTR for first Choice.
and its still up in the air.
I've heard lots of hype about the mammoth so I'll probably end up going with that one in the end.
that is if I don't buy them both before the Genesis and the LST come out *ponders*

RE: 1st MT
i have a savage 25, a mammoth, and a t-maxx 2.5. the t-maxx gets 80% of run time. it is the fastess, and most fun. any mt can be broken, but i have not had this problem with any of the three. go with t-maxx for the most bang for your money.

RE: 1st MT
Thanks guys, and that 700.00 Quote must have been for something else, I know the mammoth is no where near that.
and I am looking at a mammoth and savage, I think I will buy the mammoth to mess around with on the street
and at the field with my son,
the savage on the other hand, well I've found so many alumi hop ups and a twin engine conversion kit, I might just turn it into a
show truck.
I can see myself spending a rediculas amount of money on the savage [>:]
but all an all I will buy the savage SS kit, and the mammoth RTR, with a good radio, and give the radio that comes with the mammoth to my son to add to his toy collection
can anyone recommend a great radio? Now that I have my trucks picked out.

[:-] Drool..
Sweet man, I bookmarked all of the hop up parts that you listed so I know what to get when I call in the order,
I do see some silver alumi parts in that picture you posted, that were not in your list of items to get though.
Also not listed was a new air filter.
I have read that I will need to put a pro air filter on it so I can pull wheelies? (is this true?)
Forgive my ignorance don't forget I'm still new
Thanks again for all the help.
