is there anyway to convert a nitro engine to run on gasoline? if not are there any nitro trucks out there that would be able to handle a gas engine and still be able to perform well

I believe the cen genesis has a conversion of some sort available? truck itself is 5 or 600, atleast a few more hundred to get it running gas.
the 1/5th and 1/6th scale trucks all run gas, but those are way above that price range.
gas engines in that scale just dont really exist. not sure if they cant exist for engineering reasons, or just arent worthwhile. some have use 4stroke nitro engines in trucks with some interesting results, but even that is still talking heavy modification with a high cost.

just starp your leaf blower on the back of a savage (same effect).
I am not a big fan of gas powered RC cars, they look like lawnmowers going through a track (i am sure i am going to get flamed for that one)

they are simply too large for 99% of areas.
a guy posted a 1/6th scale offroad track in another thread though. id never seen anything like it. it was like a 1/2scale dune buggy race almost. itd be worth it if you had a track like that around you(I believe the one posted was in nevada or arizona or something).

Think about how much more complex the little nitro engine would be if it was converted to run on gasoline. Right now, your nitro engine runs without an ignition system. The ignition system would add some kind of pick up on the crankshaft, more than likely a CDI type ignition system, and not to mention weight.
The beauty of the nitro engine is its simplicity. This question always seems to show up every now and then.

i rather buy an FG gas truck than trying to convert the nitro engines,
besides you would end up with very little power, i mean a 4cc nitro engine can get the same power as a 18cc gas engine i think (its just a rough estimate,)

It really doesnt seem possible to convert a nitro engine to gas.
Like rcaeroguy says, you would need a sparkplug and ignitions system. not to mentions that gas has a lower flash point than nitro, so if you spilled some on a hot cooling head, theres a chance it would ignite. Plus, nitromethane creates more energy when it burns than gasoline, so you would need to run a high octane fuel and you still wouldn't have as much power.

it can be done but the worth of it is alot less than the amount of work or engineering... for this application, alot of guys that fly will convert larger nitro/glows to gas like a Tartan engine or the like, but there are major differances in air and ground engines... youd be better off to build a gasser from one and like mentioned, install a weekwhacker, chainsaw, blower engine on it, and that has its own set of challenges. now are far as cost i ll dissagree completely on cost between a gasser n nitro. say you take a Losi MT2. 650.00 pretty much rtr with decent factory items, add a few hop ups for bling, 50-100, get some spare parts for those Oppsies. 25.00 get a few extra glow plugs, 20.00 grab a couple gallons of nitro so your not out. 50.00 your close to 900.00, there is nothing outrageous about these prices, and if all goes well a couple months later your back to get a few more gallons another 50.00. so you can obtain a grand VERY easy in no time at all with a nitro. fora gasser, they range for starting price of about 700.00 rtr, (firehammer/ new smartech BigFoot) upwards to 1600.00 for say an FG F1 or Marter, or the Harm onroad cars ect. it all depends on WHAT you want to do with it. I personally for a gasser decided on the new HPI Baja. for what i want to do its perfect!!! and 1002.00 delivered to my door TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!
[sm=cool.gif] [] was just a bit more than the Losi option, BUT, now when you go get 4 gallons of fuel, you pay 100.00 when I go get 4 Gallons of fuel i pay 14.00 if gas is expensive that day....your four gallons will get you about 8-12 hrs pure solid time running, no tuning repairing, solid time running. my four gallons of fuel will get me 18 - 22 hrs run time. just run time, and i dont need to worry about hte other things, like glow plugs dieing/ ignitor batters, not starting, tuning issues. while your doing all of that with your nitro, i ll be making laps, and in the pit to refuel or repair a missed 30 footer into the up on the next mogul... so when it comes to cost, i cant just look at out the door, i need to be aware of next week month yr ect.... this is a long term hobby, but if your only gonna play for the next month or 4, then moneys should even be considered imho.

A simple search on this site will show you a number of ways to make a gasser. There is a dedicated forum too. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/forumid_92/tt.htm
I'm sure all the conversion guys would laugh at the comments made here.
You can go as cheap as the weedeater in your garage,(or $59 bucks on sale at depot) or buy a big bucks custom job.
If you want to create a monster that you can be proud of, there is a vast amount of knowledge on this site.
Good luck and have fun.

I think that it would be too much of a pain. It would make perfect sense to just get an hpi baja. Heck for cheaper, and you get the sweetest 1/6 scale out there IMO.

Not saying a conversion is the easiest but they are dang awesome when it is done. If you are some what handy you should be able to stay in your price range.
