Default how big a jump can my monster truck handle

hey all,

being new to rc i'm sorry for the dumb question but thought i would ask rather than breaking heaps of stuff and making life expensive

i was looking at a ramps thread yesterday and watched a vid of one of you guys launching a buggy off a ramp(2dmaxlsd from memory?), now i'm wanting to jump my giga crusher, but i don't know if it's ok to do big jumps on them? , or should i have a buggy for that and keep the monster truck for just rough terrain, just really dont wanna get big air off a ramp and then smash all my suspension etc, any advice as to what the limits are of these things would be great.

if you can land it (the hard part) then I would try to stay under 10 ft (just to save parts)
My T-Maxx had a tough time at around 7.5 feet, b/c I wasn't landing good anymore....also I attempted a couple backflips (landed some)but the wrecks resulted in some carnage

I believe the Giga crusher has 2 engines?...... if so your truck is going to be heavier so around 8 or so..... but stiffer springs, ride height, shock oil, etc can let you jump you car different heights

That was a truggy (LOSI Muggy) in the video. A monster truck is better for bashing, IMO.

Most MTs will take a fair amount of abuse....But if you Start small and work you way up......You'll be able to land on your Wheels more often and in turn Break Less parts...
But you'll still end up breaking Parts sooner or later as it's a part of the game.....

yeah all the shocks etc are standard at the mo, seem pretty soft . i spose it doesn't weigh too much though, they do bring out the twin engine giga crusher (MF Mega Force) but mine is the single .28 motor (SF Single Force). you mean 7 feet in the air, heck that seems pretty high. awesome tho might have to make a crappy flat ramp with sum bricks and a sum bricks haha, thanks for the help so far guys much appreciated,

Cheers: Mark

I have some friend here in california berkely, and this placehave this storage dirt site, some of those trukies dump their soil, or dirt, and as high as 15 feet high and we used those as our ramp, so our buggies and trucks on the air about 20-25 feet high, sometimes we have parts broken but if it land on the wheels, the trucks and buggies are in good shape.
I run lst1; lst2; savage-25, hyper 7. My friend have the lst, mayhem buggie, revo.
sometimes 5 people show up, sometimes more than ten, it's a big constrantion site, wide open.
we have lot of fun lanching our trucks and buggies in this site.

A lot of it depends on the truck and the driver. (And luck)
I have seen people jump over 15 feet high, 4 or 5 times in a row, no problems. I have seen people jump about 5 feet high, and break several things. I have a rc-solutions roll cage on my t-maxx with flex-tek a-arms, and man can that truck take a beating! I hit everything as hard as possible, and usually come out alive.

I highly recomend (like someone else did) is that you start off small. Start off with a little 1 foot (bike skate ramp) and just get used to keeping control in the air, and keeping your speeds consistant. Then work your way up. I have built (and have a how to) for a custom adjustable ramp that you can set the angle and height, and it's a great way to learn. Practice makes perfect. I know people that call pull a backflip or a double and land it 99% of the time, because they know their truck, and have good control.

yeah ive been doing small jumps but it keeps stripping the teeth off my diff where the main diff gear runs onto the driveshaft spline part, ive been keeping revs even in mid air so it doesn't graunch when landing, still munched them,

so dunno what to do there

turns out my transmission had munched it gear change shaft and made it so it couldn't lock it and just pushed out of the lock in part on the gears which explains the jackhammering of the gear change arm against the servo

You dont really want to land with your finger on the throttle or it will cause a jolt on all the drive train when the tires touch. You can blip the throttle to even out the truck so it lands on two tires ..... you really want rear slightly first or just all four at same time. It will cause less of a jolt if your not on the gas. I would rather land upside down than on the gas..... well depends on how far up it fell from lol.
