RE: Tips for Smartech Magic Wheel
I've upgraded the clutch-(burnt the other one out running the engine in:eek:)I've had it for about a month, so far-the only thing is I'm getting air bubbles in the fuel line-tried to extend the line away from the exhaust.
Ripped well today-3ft jumps no probs-even climbs kerbs from standstill.-well impressed for the price-I'm trying to get my old hornet up and running for my son(now I've knicked his magic wheel off him;))......any ideas on getting idle speed down?.....is there a better way of heating up the glow plug?-the rechargeable battery thingy only lasts for a bit,so if I stall it its end of sports. |
RE: Tips for Smartech Magic Wheel
if it only last for one start i suggest u get another one it should last for bout a whole day and more any one got any more ideas on my brakes i dont wan to run it if she aint got brakes but when i do get it running i might make a movie

RE: Tips for Smartech Magic Wheel
well, the magic wheel was my first RC car, i've always been interested in the gas(nitro) powered cars ever since i was a kid, simply because i figured it would be a heck of a lot easier since you dont need to recharge batteries all the time (like in electric RC cars) boy was i wrong..lol.....i bought my magic wheel off a coworker, he had gotten a special snap-on edition for free with a toolbox he bought...when i bought it he was having trouble getting it started and blamed it on bad gas (was about a year old) so i got new gas and cleaned out the system and the car worked great......i didn't know anything about these cars and it was kind of a learn as i went experience. so i spend a good few hours trying to get the car to go into reverse...which was becoming rather annoying since i figured for 250 dollars the car should go in reverse....but after doing some research there aren't that many cars that do go in reverse too....so to sum it up quick....first thing to break was the nipple on the gas tank that comes from the exhaust (pull start got stuck on the line and pulled the part off) was able to fix that with a coupler piece from a fish tank and some high temp hot glue. so next problem was when i was drilling out the fuel tank for the coupler i think some plastic got in the fuel lines and was blocking it, so i removed all of those and cleaned them....next, the battery box broke into 500 pieces...then the pull start broke, so i spent a few hours rebuilding it..... then one of the axles broke and a wheel hub...had to wait 2months for my lhs to get the wheel hub part in...when it finally came in i worked into the night getting the car back up and running and i took it to work the next day to tune it on my lunch break and to use it in a nice gravel parking lot next door. well the car was running great, no problems at all....i let my buddy use it and he drove it up onto the blacktop part of the parking lot, and right there is a major highway.....well the car went out of range and went full throttle into teh highway,.....surprisingly it made it all the way across but seconds later a car drove by and dragged the car about a block away....so right now the car is still in pieces 8months later.....i thought about fixing it, but am overall looking at getting a new car, maybe fix this one if i come across some used parts, or sell it for parts....basically it needs a new carb (the throttle arm broke off) 2 new tires, 2 new body posts, a battery box with battery holder, and a body...surprisingly the car was in excellent shape after the devestating wreck.. i would recommend a magic wheel to anyone who doesn't have a lot of money to start off, or that is unsure if they are going to stick with the hobby, its not a bad truck, i had a lot of fun with mine....but do make sure you can readly get replacement parts, preferable from tmaxx.

RE: Tips for Smartech Magic Wheel
Hozza-brake problem....
the two plates are stamped out of metal-put the rough side(with a burr) towards the brake disc-tighten the springs up fairly tight and make sure your brake/throttle servo is adjusted properly-worth while investing in a fail safe-a bit fidly to set up-but working great now. Make sure the disk isn't fuel soaked-failing that invest in a traxxas disc brake!-happy truckin. |
RE: Tips for Smartech Magic Wheel
Anyone know off hand how many teeth are on the stock CB and spur for the MW?
Thanks. |
RE: Tips for Smartech Magic Wheel
Clutch bell 20 teeth-spur gear 73/74(lost count:eek:)-had it running perfect today-awsome jumps at a BMX track near us.I'll try and vid it next time.:D.......I think we'll upgrade to alloy chassis runners and alloy skid plates.......skid plates had a battering today. The body supplied has withstood a high speed multi roll....and next time I'm going to fit underside plate-it stalled in the woods due to a stick coming up through the chassis and jamming the flywheel. Can't believe the hammering I've been giving it-and it's still in one piece!!
Been thinking of digging out my old hornet for my son-I think I'll buy another Magic Wheel-theyre unstoppable!!!!!!:D |

RE: Tips for Smartech Magic Wheel
ORIGINAL: Smokinjoe6450 Why do people keep coming on here saying it is an "illegal copy of the T-Maxx"????? If it was illegal, don't you think Traxxas would have done something over the years about it??!! Traxxas probably sold them the rights to make their older version t-maxx. What do they care...they are now "double dipping" with the new AND old stuff. [&:] Exactly! Now a larger market has clones, real "original" TMaxx's and 2.5's. More spare parts! |
RE: Tips for Smartech Magic Wheel
QUick question...the RTR version I bought has a 27mhz transmitter, probably without any other rx crystal adjustments or choices. Interference problems? What radio have you upgraded to?
|
RE: Tips for Smartech Magic Wheel
Anyone?
I can't wait to get this in the mail! LAstly, any suggestions for a better steering servo? I have a hunch the stocker RTR is a dog. |
RE: Tips for Smartech Magic Wheel
OK, bought an oldschool FPB Futaba fora steal...check my other Smartech replies...I have some questions!
|
RE: Tips for Smartech Magic Wheel
sorry i t took so long to reply lol my stock receiver was crap so i got a futuba one but the wire on the ariel some how got striped so no i have like a 10 m range 20 m if i start at one side and 10m over the other side.:-) i have the same stock steerign sever it is ok as long as you are moving, there for means its cheap as is the magicwheel
but i like my magic wheel i need a new receiver then i might make a vid of it at our bmx track |
RE: Tips for Smartech Magic Wheel
My guess would be if you asked Traxxas, they would refute people saying its an authorized copy. Personally I wouldnt buy a knock off but I understand the appeal to some who maybe cant afford the real deal.
My problem with clones is that the RC company, be it Traxxas, Losi, HPI, etc puts millions into R&D, advertising, engineering, support, etc. That has to go into the cost of the vehicle, the chinese and taiwanese knockoffs dont have any of that so they can charge less. But by buying these knockoffs you are not only hurting yourself by getting generally an inferior product but also hurting the entire RC community. If the major companies dont make money they arent going to be able to come out with new and innovative products. Just my .02 cents. |

hey this is my first post :D
ive been reading alot of smartech magic wheel forums and i thought i would post some of the upgrades ive made to mine :) 1) hpi 18ss engine :) 2) rpm suspension arms :) 3) futaba throttle servo (already had this lying around not amazing but better than stock) :) 4) the rods that connect to the steering knuckles that keep the wheels striaght and so they dont move ive drilled the hole out and put a nut and bolt through it this makes it alot stronger and they never come loose! :) i hope the pics have worked not to sure on how to upload them lol |
RE: Tips for Smartech Magic Wheel
If it runs like a T-maxx and looks like a T-maxx but isn't one then you have a Smartech :)

RE: Tips for Smartech Magic Wheel
Please help!! My nephew gave me a truck to fix for his kid he got it from snap-on after buying a tool box. After doing a web search it might be a smartech magic wheels.I dont know. How ever it is broken and i need parts. It seems a bit diffrent also.
1. the tranny is not inclosed. 2. the clutch bell has 2 gears on it connecting to the open tranny. 3. there is a chain that goes from the tranny to the dogbones. He only ran 4 tanks though this truck and then he fliped it on its back and it no longer moves. I thing the front diff is bad along wit something in the tranny. When You you give it gas it the engine just spins and the rear tires barly move and the front dont at all. If you have info or Idea plaes LMK |
RE: Tips for Smartech Magic Wheel
hey guys
i thought i would try getting this thread started again as it was the best one on the net with out magic wheel haters spamming it. i was reading some of the post i made omg i was clueless and a dousch.[:-] does any one know what parts fit the magic wheel from th T-maxx. more specifically the battery and receiver box. |
RE: Tips for Smartech Magic Wheel
if it has a chain then its not a magic wheel. but its probably a bit late i think it would most likely be your diffs are striped in the front and all the power is going to the front but you probably already know that thought i might be able to help.

You all might want to read this:
[link]http://monster.traxxas.com/showpost.php?p=3171657&postcount=50[/link] So basicly, smartech stole the tmaxx design and traxxas can't do anything about it. Just so you know. |
