Is it shutting off? Check your temp. shouldn't be more than 220 degrees. I keep mine a little richer at 200 Degrees too prolong engine life. If it don't stall or flame out, don't worry about it.

Does it boil right away? or does it take awhile? If it takes awhile, you may be too lean, getting it too hot and flaming out. Heat is the only thing that is going to cause that.

If you're tuning your engine to run at that temp, you're wasting fuel and not getting peak power from the engine. 200°F is the minimum temp an ABC engine should be run at, and at that temp its probably only making 70% of its available power. Waste of fuel, and waste of power. You're not doing the engine any favors by running it that cold. If you want to prolong your engine's life, use good fuel. 10-12% oil content, of which 30% of that should be castor. More castor the better.

my mgt 8.0 gets pretty toasty like 270F but runs great with a good smoke trail and no signs at all of a too lean setting, but my JPX and Nova p5X probably run 220-230.

the only time i use a temp guage is when im breaking in a engine or, if im new to the engine, other than that, sound, smell and smoke trail is all i need to dial it in.

are you sure your not overfilling your tank and its not just the tank back-pressure bubbling it up like a hookah?
