RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
Ok, Ive got a TZ on the way. What are you guys using for a pipe with this engine? I was reading about some using a BB pipe but I wasnt sure if that would kill the power on it.
spoon, my extra 2 speed is going to eminent, but Ill keep my eyes open for one for you. How much are you looking to spend?

Hey keith. I just bought the revo pipe. I have read several places that this is by far the best pipe for it. Mine is on the way. All you do is drill the stinger out 5mm (13/64) and it shoul fly! I don't want the 2 speed anymore unless you have the old discontinued one as the rs4 one is geared to high. You will over heat your tz in a few passes as the 2speed isn't geared low enough for the bigger tyres
And you can't gear it low enough therefore it revs out and well kill you engine especially that the ta revs really high. But thanks anyway

The gears on the 2 speed are easily changed. You just have to take the C clip off. You can also change the gears on the clutch bell.
Which pipe did you get?

Gratz on getting the TZ, Keith. Any word on what kind of battery pack I should get for my Futaba R603FF receiver? I might just run to my hobby shop and pick one or 2 up, as I need to get fuel there anyways (and maybe some paint for the body).
I just got my tires, wheels, header, starter kit and the Futaba Tx/Rx that I ordered in. I am especially impressed with the remote/receiver. It was definitely only used once and is in great condition, plus I got 2 receivers ... for when I get my next truck

I got the stock revo blue pipe. You will have to mod it to fit the mt2. I know its easily changable but there is no proper gearing for the MT2, its all onroad small tyres. Even with the highest gearing the car will still just rev out and overheat the engine. Its just simply not built for the MT2 tyres. You wont get anymore speed out of it. You will just loose so much speed. You need to gear it high but HPI doesnt make tall enough gearing.

Yea, its just a C clip holding the gear on. I know they go up to at least 49. You just have to make sure you pair the CB correctly, and dont go too large or you wont be able to mesh it correctly

I think you have your gearing mixed up man its geared to high for the mt2 you dont want it higher. and it wont rev out right away because its geared really high your engine wont be able to get the rpm's up as fast as it should. And arent you running big tires on your mt2 like badlands or somethin? If you get on road tires or any other shorter 2.2 tires and only run onroad the 2 speed will be just fine. the mt2 is light and the tz is crazy.

I am probably wrong. I really need to test it and I will. I just read that it is and was just warning if it was true. I will probably still purchase a 2 speed. I'm not trying to argue with anyone lol I just heard its a hard to get a good gearing going with it. I still want to try though!
RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
Here is my project.
It's a MT2 with a different shell. The body is from a Traxxas Slash.I also added the front and rear bumbers from the Slash with a little help from some plastic parts of plumber pipes (these were the only plastics that I could shape)
I changed the small t-15 engine with a OS CV-RX, after your advice. In the OS I used the recoil from the T-15 in order to use the electric starter.
I also added two speed from the on-road brother.
I am very happy from the result as I wanted my car to look bigger and more likely a real car. Now it's like a racing off road pick up.

Now I run 13/18 and 47/43.
I have run and 49/45 but the 49 broke and I replaced with the 47 that I had in spare.

That gearing sounds like it would be just great for the mt2 do you have any vids man?
Hey I need to know something. I want to order some 2.2 onroad tires for my mt2 today from my lhs and I was wondering what ones would grab the best on pavement? I found some foam tires but the lhs said that the tz would destroy them in no time.

Definety road rage. Get series 30. Best grip. I have heard the V groove is excellent too. I have the V Groove atm I never glued them down so I don't know how good they are but when I did run them they seemed ok. but I am selling them on eBay as I want road rage.
