Official HPI MT2 Thread
RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
wow your good at cleaning it up, it looks like a never ran shelf queen in the 1st set of pics. I can't get mine looking remotely clean like that even after scrubbing mine with a brush with a industrial strength degreaser it's still looks dirty as hell .

I'm never cleaning it like that again. But it's not that hard when the car is completely stripped.

I haven't actually run the car yet with this setup. Without the swaybars and only FWD (damn diff) i was catching the Revo's and 8ight on the straights, but corners were impossible. I will try to shoot some video this weekend.

That track looks like it would be fun to drive on.
Anyone know of stronger ball ends for the tie rods? I keep ripping the threads out of mine.

now you know my pain with the rods when I posted a few weeks back with that issue
I'm using JB weld to hold the cups to the rods now and it seems to be holding fine for now but only time will tell
Used superglue originally but they still were ripping out pretty easy.

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
I just started having a problem with it. I had to replace two ends on Sunday because they stripped right out. There has to be a stronger end that wont strip out.

Wonder if the Long Shank Rod Ends would work from [link=http://www.rpmrcproducts.com/products/losi/steering.htm]RPM[/link] seeing they say it fits all HPI ball studs

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
Well guys need some help again. I now have an 18ss that I have installed an OS 18CRV and a 2 speed.
First thing is, what gears should I be running? Right now I have 49/47 and 13/16 on the bell. It's pretty quick but my other MT2 with an OS 18 and 49 spur gear is very close to being the same speed.
Now here is one that has a few people stumped. On the 18ss I was running an RD logics exhaust (part# 61235 SO). I am blowing the exhaust gasket everytime I run the car. i went threw 4 gaskets in an hour last night messing around. Got fed up and threw the stock exhaust back on. Didn't blow the gasket but had to lean out the carb more, what a difference in power. Can't conrtol it nailing the throttle now. Why would I gain so much power with a stock exhaust? (think its more bottom end then top end) and Why would I constantly be blowing the gakets out with the other exhaust system

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
bogger Im not sure about the exhaust gaskets. Are you using the same header with both pipes?
As for the 2 speed. You want to keep the gear ratios the same so the mesh is right. If you spurs are 2 teeth apart then the CB should be too. So 49/47 would be 13/15, 14/16 etc..

Thanks Keith. The RD logics came with a header, that's the one that keeps blowing the gasket. i have the original header and pipe that came with the 18ss and having no problems now. I'll have to talk to hobby shop where I picked it up from.

RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread
this is probably in the wrong thread, but i know theres a few savage guys on here. i have a k4.6 on my mt with the stock plastic pipe. i was just wondering if the aluminum hpi pipe that is an option would be worth buying or should i be looking at something else for added power gains, and is there a pipe that is comparable in price that someone would recomend?

The MT2 18ss is a fine truck - the upgrades make it stronger and avoid the usual problem with the truck which are centred around weak differentials. The kits aren't hard to build but you need to be patient and take time to do it properly. RC experience prior to building is a definite asset or you at least have to be handy and inclined that way to tackle it. I personally recommend an assembled version to start with but its doable otherwise.
I run a buku pipe on my K4.6 with great success although its expensive and requires more maintenance and tuning. I upgraded from the aluminum pipe to the Buku and don't have any other comparison for pipes to share - sorry.

The 18SS is a good truck be it your first or your 10th. Its not difficult to build and you will have the benefit of knowing exactly how it went together which will make troubleshooting later much easier. I think you'll be very happy with it.
As for the polished pipe. It does offer a decent power increase over the stock plastic but its also louder, if thats a concern.
How much are you looking to spend on a pipe?
I have a used polished pipe in excellent condition PM or email me if you are interested.
