Default Is my MT2 Normal?

hello

I have HPI MT2, it's my first Nitro RC.
with 75 cc tank, .15 engine (T-15), I could only run for about 5 minutes (max)
is that normal? or is there any bad setting on it

Thanks

you might be a little lean, but thats about how long my gt runs for, thats what a quick fuel squirt tank is used for!

Ive actally never timmed my truck but 5 to 7 min. should be about right, I think. sorry i meant that it is running rich. Make sure that the glo plug is very tight and the manifold is sealed well. Also make sure the carb settings are correct. Look up the factory settings and go from that. Try to lean out the top end a bit, and richen the low end if you need to hold the rpms up to keep it from dieing otherwise lean it, only a small turn at a time. but make sure that you know where all teh screws were origionaly[:@] or you will be out like i was when i first had my truck.
Your only loosing a few min. but that could be harming your engnie, if you cant find the prob. then take it to your friendly neighborhood hobby shop. Good luck!

Thanks everyone.

right out of the box, I only did the setting for carburetor, which was 3 turn (from the manual), but then I felt no power when I hit the full throttle, so I I turned to 2,5 turn (I got this from the forum).

is there any connection with slippery clutch? maybe to tight.
or, the differential backlash, I think it's too big. the backlash is about 3~4 mm.

Thanks.

Say there asep1 when you lean out you engine (eg 2.5 turns out) just make sure you have smoke at full throttle so the motor will not overheat!

I like it, This is my first Nitro Truck, I just bash around the yard and stuff. Pretty easy install, Real Solid setup. There was no install instructions so this is how I installed it. The front of the tank is attached using the original fuel tank mounting hole. The rear of the tank is attached via a small metal tube threaded on both ends. on the lower end of the threaded tube is has a foot attached via a screw to reach the rear set of 3 holes in the chassis. The rear of the Tank has to be kicked out twords the exhaust to clear the Gear box housing. It is kicked out twords the exhaust, so you need to add an extender to the plastic mount that holds the exhaust to the Chassis so the exhaust wont touch the fuel tank. I dont know if the extender was missing or what but this extender wasn't included unless i was supossed to use the foot that is on the bottom of the threaded tube but if I did that the tube would not line up with the holes in the chassis. So I used part Number 85039 which was in a bag of extra parts that came with the kit. It is a spacer that is used inbetween the servo and the servo mounting point. It looks just like the foot that is attached to the bottom of the threaded metal tube although the foot is metal this was plastic. Worked great any way. I attached it via a nut and bolt at both ends to the plastic mount that holds the rear of the exhaust to the chassis. This held the exhaust out enough so it would not touch the fuel tank. By moving the exhaust out it makes a little more contact with the body so it will eat off more of the paint. Body still fits fine though. Was thinking of adding some duct tape to the inside of the body where it touches the exhaust but dont know if it will protect it or not. Or you could just trim the body a little bit. Hope this is not to confusing. I will try to upload some pics of it.

Sweet, thanks for the run-down. This is my first Nitro truck too, and I would really like not to have to stop to refuel too often. I'll wait and see what kind of run times I get out of it once it's run in but if it's not satisfactory I think I'll buy one.

Hey Jeep that looks great! Can you give me a list of the hop-ups you have? And did you have problems with your diff? If so what did you do to fix it? I tried adding the shims but one of my gears was to far gone.

Superscott

I shimed mine front and rear before I ran it. I dont know if I had the updated gears or not. I shimmed it any way seemed to take some of the play out of it. Haven't had a problem yet. Only about a gallon of fuel thru it though.

Hop ups:
F4I Titanium front and rear shock tower: Broke the rear plastic one twice jumping.
New Era Models 125cc fuel tank
Motor Savers Air Filter
HPI Titanium turn buckles with RPM heavy duty Rod Ends the black ones from hpi to short.
HPI Blue colis front and rear: 40wt shock oil
HPI Fiber disk brake
HPI Racing clutch
Formost Check Valve
Golden Horizons Fuel Filters
Boiled the suspension arms Front and Rear
Dynamite race guard Fail Safe
HPI 1200mAh NiMH 6 Volt Receiver Hump Pack: Haven't installed yet need a charger for it.
Thats it....

Nice car Jeep,

can you tell me the part number of the shim?
my differentials are fine so far, but like I said, the backlash is just too big.

Thanks,

Thanks for the list Jeep! How does the truck handle with that 40 weight oil, I was going to put 30 in front and 40 in the rear. Can someone explain what "backlash" is?

Default RE: Is my MT2 Normal?

Sorry if my word make a confusion, superscott.

I use to call the "play" as the backlash.

well, I work in automotive industry, we use to call the clearance between gear contact as the "backlash"

I guess all of you know, functioning mechanical systems, such as gears, need to have a certain “clearance” (“gap”, “play”) between the components transmitting motion under load. Clearance is necessary to avoid interference, wear, and excessive heat generation, ensure proper lubrication, compensate for manufacturing tolerances etc.

as far as I know, if the clearance is too big, the power will be lost for eleminating the clearance it self, also reducing the gears life.

I hope that's help.

Thanks.
