hi guys newbie here with question regarding nitro rustler, bought one broke it in all seemed well runs great on tarmac low temp and uses full tank. The problem is when i use it on mud and thin grass the car will go good for 7 laps then suddenly cut out with fuel still in the tank, then after couple of secs start up again and finish rest of the tank. Not sure but also think the temp gets hotter any suggestions done all of the traxxas test and ok. the guy from my lhs says it is unlikley the piston is at fault as it would do it all the time no matter wot surface. any suggestions.

Check the cooling head out and make sure its clear of debris. Similar things were happeneing on my Evader because of that. See, on dirt or grass, not all power is transferred to the ground because a lot of the time the tires are slipping. So, your engine is revving up but not getting the same speed. On pavement, your going faster which lets more wind pass through the cooling head thus cooling it down. (Kind of like how in a 1:1 car with electric radiator fans, it usually will not turn on when you're on the freeway because there is enough air due to speed to pass through the radiator to cool the fluid) In bashing conditions.. your revving but you dont have the same amount of air passing through to cool it.. which CAN make it run hot if the cooling head isnt good and clean.

Slike a lot of overrevving in loose traction conditions causing it to over heat. Do you have a method for checking temp? On board temp readout, IR temp meter, laser temp, etc... The nice thing about most on board temp readouts is the max temp function. You're only guessing what the problem is until you have the data to back it up. Traxxas recomends a normal opertaing temp around 270 not to exceed 300. Good luck

yeah been using on board temp on tarmac i can get it well below 270 but on the mud or grass after couple runs gets hotter sometimes over 270 and cuts.

dont know wots up then m8 but on mud or grass can do about seven long runs then just cuts , after a while will start up then run again and use rest of fuel and idles no probs. When its running and slowing it just cuts no sign of trying to idle, done all the air tests traxxas suggest the only thing i havent dont is to strip the engine but dont what to do this as only couple months old and under warranty.

had my car fixed for a while now runs great, i think it was due to bad break in prob my fault, sent it back to traxxas they stripped it down and said piston and liner where damaged so i paid £100 pound and they replaced my 2.5 with brand new 2.5r and paid a guy who knows his stuff £15 to break it in now perfect.
