Default Brakes?

Hey all,

I have a REAL newb question...how do the brakes on nitro RCs work? And is there any way I can adapt a braking system to stop the spur gear/drivetrain on a electric RC? If I can figure out how brakes on a nitro work, I can solve the second question...just I don't have a nitro...yet ....

Thanks for the help guys!

Well, I think the most comman way with 1/10 scales is a hex, or some type of hub on the spur gear shaft. Then there is a disc on this hub, and when you apply brakes, two plates squeeze on the disc forcing the spur to slow down and/or stop.
If you look at a thread, in this forum about an unusual brake problem. That thread has some pictures that might help you get a better idea of what I'm talking about.

IBrakeForNobody is trying to figure out brakes eh?

Okay...umm, I looked at the pic on the [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_2984829/anchors_2984829/mpage_1/key_unusual%252Cbrake%252Cproblem/anchor/tm.htm#2984829]Unusual Brake Problem[/link] and I can't find the brake(s)...can someone point them out? Well, This is the best I could do for now. You cant see it too well, but it still might help you out a little.
Orange- The brakes themselves, located behind the spur gear, and on the same shaft.
Red-The linkage for the brakes, connecting to the servo.
