After Run Question
Okay...I searched for the past hour and nothing relevant came up...either that or I'm really bad at typing in keywords.
After I run my RC10GT, do I put the after run oil in the carb and pull the starter a couple of times or do I take out the glow plug and put 3-4 drops in there? Or should I even use after run oil? In the airplanes, I just kill the engine with fuel still in the engine...the nitro evaporates and the remaining oil protects the engine...worked for my instructor for 20 years and still going and for me for the past 6 months since I stopped using it...
sorry for all the newb questions ...
Thanks for replying!

RE: After Run Question
I do not know about airplane fuel but the biggest percentage of the fuel in cars and trucks is methanol. Methanol is a moister magnet and will draw moister out of the air right to your engine. Some say after run oil is not necessary but you will never see drag racer not peerage there motor after a day of racing. I use to have to do this with my methanol go-kart.
What I do is take the air filter off and pull the glow plug. I put 2 or 3 drops down the carburetor and the glow plug hole. Then pull the starter a couple of times. Then I put the glow plug back in and put a couple more drops down the carburetor. Then pull the starter a couple more times.

RE: After Run Question
I used to pull my glow-plug to use after run. I'm concerned now that it is too easy to get dirt in that way, and constant pulling of the plug can cause leaks in the gasket.
Now i just put it in the carb instead.

RE: After Run Question
I doubt it is quite as effective, but I've decided the benefits of doing it are outweighed by the costs. If i plan on storing my truck for a long period, i will put some in the plug, but other than that, it's only goin in the carb. Unless of course i have the plug out for another reason.

RE: After Run Question
i dont even use after run i just spray some WD-40 in the carb for 1.5 seconds and that works just as well as after run oil plus none of the overflow mess thanks to that handy dandy straw

RE: After Run Question
Wd-40 will only leave a thin protective coat on the internal parts that will evaporate after a short period of time. If you are storing your car for more than a week than it is almost a must to use after run oil.

RE: After Run Question
Be careful using ARO in the carb, it will deteriorate the o-rings a bit faster than they would otherwise. If you drop ARO in the carb you want to hold the slide wide open to minimize the ammount of ARO that seeps into the carb itself, so you can keep as much as possible off of the o-rings.
