If you wanna race, and stay duratrax, then get an evader pro. If you want a top of the line truck to race, then get a RC-10 GT or Losi XXX-NT.
Any truck can be turned into a racer, but I think the Maximum ST would be a challenge to get race ready. Its a better basher then racer. Just my 2 cents

By today's standards, the duratrax .16 is...not enough power. If you like duratrax or plan on getting one because parts are easy to find and the LHS near you stocks them, and you want a nitro truck, Nitro Evader is a great truck to get you going. They can be had on ebay for really cheap, you can even get a chassis without an engine so you can use the extra money to spend on a race legal engine (.12 size). .12's can put just as much power to the track as a .15 can so don't be fooled by the displacement. .15's will have more torque, but a good .12 has more than enough to spin the tires off from a dead stop.

Duratrax is generaly not considered a racing brand. When people hear Duratrax, they think on a mid-line basher. Duratrax really hasn't had a lot of sucess in nitro except for the nitro evader.

I think the Duratrax nitro Evader pro, that me and Snipin_Willy, suggested could be a competitive stadium truck in a race. The only bad part is the motor that comes with it is not race legal. It all depends on how serious you wanna race and how picky your local track is about that stuff.

I didn't know they made a Nitro Evader Pro? I have a Nitro Evader and it's very competitive (club racing). I like it because parts are about half the price of Losi and AE at my lhs. If your planning on racing put in good radio equipment, a good non-pull start engine (O.S. CV-R) with a bump box, receiver pack, and keep lots of spares (arms, shock towers, screws, e-clips, turnbuckles). The Losi and AE guys break just as much stuff as me and it costs them more to fix.

I was under the impression that the Evader Pro was an electric truck....
to answer the original question with my opinion - I don't personally know how that .16 Duratrax engine is, but if I was doing it and with the intention of racing, I would go with a non-pullstart engine - you'll get more power with it that way. I'd suggest trying to find a rolling chassis if you can and then add an OS .12 CV-R to it.

There is no nitro evader pro. However most of the parts from the electric pro will fit on the Nitro. I think the right rear a-arm is an exception. They are different from nitro to electric because of the nitro spur gear.
