Default jato engine upgrade

Hi I am new to this forum and I have just purchased a Jato. I was wondering what engine upgrades are there that I could do to my Jato and still keep my ez start?
Thanks

an os. .18 would be a good upgrade, but i dont know if u could keep the ez start on, cuz the header might not work with the os. engine, i dont know y u would want to keep the ez start it weighs the car down some and it takes up room, a pull start or a starter box is much better.

I had read somewhere that the os.18tm engine would work with the revo manifold but was not 100% sure. The reason I wanted to keep the ez start is because I always had trouble starting my other pull start engines and just want to have some fun without the hassle. I am not that worried about the weight of the ez start because I am not going to be racing the Jato. Maybe I could use something like the roto start? What do you think.

I have an os .18tm in my jato with the ez-start. Don't worry about the weight, the engine is more than powerful enough for the truck in the first place. Especially if you're not racing, the ez-start is so convenient. I would keep it if I were you, you said it yourself you had trouble with pullstarts.

Only problem with it is the header has to be grinded down about an 1/8 of an inch, maybe a little less to fit that section between the exhaust output and the ez-start. <----- I've done this it's not that hard. You can use a couple of different headers it doesn't have to be one for a tmaxx, hpi has one and there are some others out there that will work. Noone specifically makes one for the Jato yet, im not sure though.

My poor Jato is out of commission until Santa brings my Lunsford Kit. I snapped one of the stock turnbuckles last time i was out... until then my rc18t gets alot of attention

JatoWeazel,
Thanks for the info. I am definitely getting an OS .18 now that I know that the ez start works with it. Is there a reason you picked the tm and not the tz?

Remember you HAVE to grind the header down for it to work. I got the tm because it was in stock at my lhs and I'm very impatient when it comes to r/c. Oh the other reason...my buddy has one in his tmaxx and i saw what it did to that, so i figured on a JATO it would be pure insanity. (and it is!)

Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever tried cramming an RB TM323 in there? Its a direct drop in for the revo and maxx. So I'd assume that it should fit in a jato (though it will be tight). I have one in my revo and it hauls @$$, and pulls wheelies like nobody's business. It would be absolutly uncontrollable in a light 2WD truck, but very cool.

JatoWeazel, I read that the tm has more torque than the other os .18's. The stock 2.5r already has a decent amount of torque so the os .18tm should be insane. So all I have to do is shave the stock header down a bit? Do you think that they will make an aftermarket direct bolt on header and pipe or shaving it down makes no difference? Also, I was just wondering when you set up the two speed did you set it up to shift early or late in order to get the most out of the engine?

Get the Jato, spend alot of time learning how to drive it without losing control. Experiment with the suspension settings and learn how to tune the engine. The car is plenty fast out of the box. Once you have gotten good at keeping the car under control then you can look into upgrades.

Dude....If you spent half of the effort in making your post readable(spelling, punctuation, paragraphs...you know, silly stuff like that) as you do with the cut and paste method, maybe somebody would have answered your post the first time. Then you wouldn't have to try to hijack somebody else's thread.

As far as the fastest truck around here...It ain't happening with a noob on the sticks. Just get whatever truck you like the looks of, and learn how to tune it, drive it, and repair it. If you know what you are doing, then you won't have to ask ambiguous questions over and over.
