actually the rustler is a very good choice for a first nitro model and first time racer. it may not be the lightest or most agile on the track, but you will learn lots from it. If you learn how to tune the suspension of your rustler over time, and you learn to drive well and get quick laps, rustys can be very competative. I think nearly every one has started with or owned a rusty.

Rustlers have plenty of power to do wheelies. I hear that it is tough to keep the front end down with a rusty. I own a jato and it flips over on command with a few upgrades on it, I'm sure the rusty will have the power to do wheelies especially since there is so much weight in the rear.

rustys dont break easily. i took mine of skate ramps and broke nothing. the only reason they can be hard to handle is the power to weight ratio. since its a 2wd the back makes the front end real light when moving, so it understeers. but it also has an over powered motor, so the back end slides around too much.

all stadium trucks are hard to drive, that the nature of the beast/s.
on a loose surface (ie hard packed clay with dust, gravel) a rustler is a harder car to drive than say, a GT or a XXX-nt or a MST-1.
it is due to the shock tower (mainly front) being shorter than the others, and therefore the front end sitting high and funny compared to 'race' designed car. also the rusty is geared a lot taller than a race designed car. if you cange the clutch bell to a 16 tooth then it will be more suitable.
also the only way i could get my rusty to break last time i tried ( we were bashing and im getting a RC10Gt on sunday so we figured we would try to get it to break) was to drive it up a quarter pipe (6 feet tall) at about about 3/4 throttle and it spun vertically about 6-8 metres up, then landed awkward on a rear wheel on cement and it broke a rear arm carrier (or rear arm hinge) ($5 part)
By the way, Cody told me about you, i am Dann the guy from games HQ

Nathan,
the session you booked in for takes 1 hour and costs $20 ( australian before any yanks tell him its a rip
) we wont get it fully broken in but i will show you the basics of tuning, enough to get you started and any other questions you have, also if we get time i usually go through basic suspension setup tips and stuff like that.
