It really sounds like a massive air leak to me.

Are you sure you didn't prime it too much? This happened to me before, I primed it to much and it started off fine but then it basically reved up on its own.

It is an air leak... there is a missing screw on the carb.

Glad to see you figured out the problem! Hopefully that was the cause. Let us know if it works out fine.

Well I got the carb screw in and now I have a new problem. When I hit the throttle the engine revs like it's on a test stand but the wheels weren't moving, when it was doing this all I had to do was tighten the wheel nut and it would fix but now it doesn't work. The slipper is tight and everything else is tight. What could be the problem? I was thinking it is either the output yolks or the diff.

i have the duratrax maximum mt. it came stock with the torq engine. but when i got it it has an hpi 15 ss on it. no problems arrised from this engine. i would say swap out with a nother engine... preferable hpi 15 ss from a savage ss. good luck with it...

Not sure but it sounds to me like your carb screws might be lose. I have a Evader and mine did pretty much the same thing and it was becasue the screws that hold the carb to the engine had come lose. Give those a check. When it goes to WOT does it sound diffrent then when you would have it at WOT when it was running correctly? In other words when it goes to WOT by itself does the engine make a higher nastier pitch then when the truck was working correctly? Mine made a awful sound...you'll know what I'm talking about if it does make it.

maybe the clutch shoes? Also how is the Diff.? Mine would do that when the diff. was shot.

I know it's not the clutch shoes because the clutch bell engages perfectly, so the clutch shoes are fine and I pulled the tranny apart and the diff was fine. (or at least I think it is) I don't know how to test the diff so I can't say it is still fine.

Wow, I guess my whole car is FINE.

what do you mean check the spur gear??? The spur turns and so does the break disk, the disk on my car is positioned so that if the slipper is loose the disk won't even turn

Well by reading everything it sounds like something in the trani. This is what i would do. take the trani out. on the bench turn the spur gear and see if the out drives turn. if so put a load on it like a pair of vice grips on each one as to stop the out drives from turning. Then spin the spur gear again and see what happens. If it will not move, or it will only move under lots of pressure which is basically defeating the slipper then your trani is fine. (one of the problem's I have had was the dog bone cups (outdrives) were slipping on the shaft becasue the screw fell out) Now if that is not the case then you have to look at the wheel's/ hubs to see if there is any slipping there. Are the Hexes on the drive shaft spinning? how i check this is to use vice grips again to hold the dogbove side of the shaft (at the wheel end) then try and spin the wheel. If there is spinning there then, presto you have found your problem. I have the Overdrive which uses the same parts and I know that the hexes on the drive shafts are friction fit (they are tapered) not using a key. these can slip if the tire is not on well enough or they are worn out. How they work is on the shaft there is a cone shaped part that the cone shaped hole in the hexes fit into. if the hex is worn too much it will just spin in the wheel and go nowhere.

Hope this helps and if you need any more clarification of this explanation please let me know

Thanks, I was thinking it was the output yolks too, but I never thought of the hexes, usually when I pull the tire off the hex just sits there and I actually had a hard time pulling it off one day. I will try that when the nice weather rolls around and hopefully I willl be problem free until my car has another stupid problem

It was the yolks, the one set screw wasn't up against the flat part of the output shaft. Thanks for all you help and putting up with me.
