OK guys, I am the proud new owner of my first nitro in a LONG time. I do not remember a thing from back then and from what I can tell it is probably better for me in the long run. I picked up a Jato with alot of extras already on it and well...frankly I am still trying to figure out what all was added to the car. The car has no scuffs on it...other then a few I put on it with my first couple tanks
I am looking for someone to help me out and give me a list of things that would be good to have on hand just in case....tools and extra parts kinda deal...any help is much appreciated!!!!!

I would say 2 sets of tires one dirt one street. If you are going to run alot on road then you will go through rear tires. Front and rear rpm a-arms they have a lifetime warranty, extra rear shock tower if you run on road. If you flip and skid it will grind down to nothing. Stay away from the metal shock tower mount as if you get a hard landing it will crack the tranny case. Extra turnbuckles becuase if you hit anything head on with any type of speed the front ones WILL break. Also ca glue tires will come unglued somewhat often. I would say check the diff to see if there is any fluid in it as it dose leak out. I personal run 100k oil to give it some what posi traction.
Also i would sat ditch the easy start and go to pull start it will lighten the truck up. Maybe give us some pics and let us see how stock it is?
I have a jato 3.3 and love it. You should have a lot of fun with it.

well i see the red racing turnbuckles looks like a hard crash broke the front two and they put stock back on. Just like i said
alumin a arms
steel cvs joints
Some type of metal rool hoop
wide front rpm bumper
tuned pipe
looks like a upgraded servo
Those appear to be all the upgrades
Also some people have trouble with the top plate breaking they make a brace to stop that. Thou i have never experianced mine break yet. Also i would say go on ebay and buy a extra screw set. Another thing get a flat pack witch most likely you alread have i would bet.
Another thing clean your air filter and i keep a couple extra on hand. It looks dirty

Oh yea...it has an upgraded chassis as well...forgot about that
OK couple questions....
what is a top plate??
extra screw set - can you explain a bit more?
and what is a flat pack?
I told ya...I am totally new...
I am planning on picking up an extra air filter today and get oil for it as well....
I just wanted to get an idea of what i need..because I am going to go spend more money at the LHS today

No problem i understand.
[link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKMD4&P=7]TOP Plate:[/link] The thing that holds everything in place on the chassis
[link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKMD4&P=7]Flat Pack:[/link] Is a rechargable battery that will fit in the campartment in front of the engine. It will provide more run time compared to aa and will give the servos more power making them faster.
[link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKMD4&P=7]Screws:[/link] Something on this page should work for you.
[link=http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=jato+top+p late+brace]Top plate brace:[/link] This will renifource the top plate making it harder to break
Like i said above i have never broken my top plate and do not run the brace. More of less it is your choice if you want that little extra protection.

It looks like the 3.3. On the cranks case it will say, the markings is right behind the ezstart motor.
Tools you should have
2.5mm hex wrench
2.0mm hex wrench
1.5mm hex wrench (theres about 4 screws on the hole truck that are 1.5mm)
wrench for glow plug and tire nuts this would work good http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXD574&P=M
flat head screw driver
temp gun
This is somthing i recommend it has the traxxas tool kit (which includes everyting listed above except screw driver and temp gun), instructional dvd, and instrction manual. But the hex wrenches that come with the tool kit will wear out after you use them for a while. Also in that kit is parts to tune the suspension.

Hex wrenches from the LHS
I have a 5/16 nut runner for the rest of the nuts and glow plug
and I picked up a flat wrench for the turnbuckle adjustments
I also have a flat screwdriver already as well.
I put a failsafe on it today and broke the piece that holds the rear A-arm in place...ooops...on my way to pick up a new one now....
I downloaded the manual from traxxas site and the DVD sections are online at youtube.com
I also went through it with the shop owner and he gave me a list of the upgrades to it...I will try to put them in my gallery info as soon as I get a chance...
I am excited to play more....well...more later!
P.S. oh yea...it is the 3.3 I didnt see the markings when I first looked at it....**not quite awake**

Oh yea...and it is now back together
and it is fast....and way fun.....well except for the maple tree...lol
I am very pleased with it....just a heck of a learning curve is all...
What do you guys use for a carry bag?? I cant justify spending 60 bucks or more on a bag for it....I was figuring maybe a duffle bag with a small parts box??? I am up for suggestions...please make them cheap suggestions hehehehe

For a carry bag, I use the bottom container of my rollable tool box. Its like a luggage bag, but made of durable plastics with a tool box on the top, and a large storage bin at the bottom. It fits both my GT2 and B4 diagonally without their tires/wheels.

Buy a tackle box with removable plastic trays. It will be great to hold small screws and should have places to hold tools, feild equipment and extra parts. For a true carrying bag i do not use one. I just carry my car around and sometimes the toolbox if i am going far from the house.

I think a lot of people do not know alot about the jato but there is some and i think they mainly only monitor the jato thread. You asked some specific stuff and i am always glad to help people.
