tower st-15
Hi, I have been wondering about the temp on my engine. After a full tank is run through i read the head temp which is normally aroun 370 degrees. Currently i am running in 90to 95 degree weather. I have the body pretty high on the post and half the windsheild cut out to promote good airflow. I have richened the engine on both high an low jets to the point where it still has good power but anymore richer and its real boggy. I have run about 2-3 quarts now at that temp and the engine still has good compression. I can pick the whole car up with the rope. Only very rairly do i have vapor lock problems and it still runs that hot even if the body is off. About 60% of my driving is at WOT. Should i not worry about it,because their is nothing else i can do. Starts easy runs fine. 10% fuel and os A3 plug. I would appreciate any help. Thanks. Also there is good solid stream of smoke from the exhaust.

Here is the offical thread http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_13...44/key_/tm.htm
Maybe you want to much out of the st-15 same thing happened to me. I wore out my piston sleeve in 1 gallon... Put it back to factory and retune ALWAYS make sure smoke is comming out of the exaust. The truck should not be boggin when driving but also you can try running 20% fuel thats whati was using.

I had a duratrax flashpoint and threw it away. It was way off and I could not recalibrate it. Also 10% nitro is low. You should run at least 20% nitro. This could also be why you are running hot. Your oil content is more than the nitro and oil burns hotter than nitro. Try a 20% nitro and oil 10-12%.

RE: tower st-15
well i think i found the problem. I decided to put in a colder glow plug since i was runnin the a3 hot plug. The first tank i ran it still hit 372 and it hadgood smoke at wot but no smoke at low end. I richened the low end about an hour and the second tank went down to 344 but still very little smoke on low end. So tomarrow i will try to richen it about 2-3 more hours hopefully bringing it under 280 and giving it the lube it need. Crossing my fingers because i have to many money consuming projects to pay for a new engine. Thanks for all the help.

i dont know the temps but i run so where after a hard run i can keep my hand on the head for 5 seconds without feeling pain. it doesnt even boil water with the drop test.
im great at tuning! when running hard at wot, have it blubbery rich so it will have a long life span. this will make your car a little more difficult to start when hot, but it is worth the extra few pulls.
370 sounds sick hot, im suprized you havent melted the piston to the cylie walls. what engine is that? it sounds like a bullet proof engine.

My motor (o.s.18 cv-r) runs at 320 and runs fine strong smoke and great performance gains. The plug reads good and haven't had any problems in 5-6 gallons. Do A search on here for temps and you will find loads to support what I'm saying. Tune for performance and the way the motor drives as in, does it bog or anything when you hit the gas? If not don't worry about it. I've got A team Orion .18 that runs great at 175-185 F and I know there is no way I could hold my hand there for 3 seconds much less 5!!!!!!!! Read about it and make up your own mind. There's plenty of people on here who do as I do, and I don't care what some say as long as everything is lubed right and the engine does not lag then you have no problem. I even had A phantom fz-15, talk about A cooker it ran at close to 400F and yes it finally blew up.... after I had it for two years and put at least 14-15 gallons threw it! If you have good smoke and good response and it runs "correct" then run with it! Some motors run like that ,, Others like it cool you never know till you start it up and run the thing. What you have sounded fine except for the vapor lock, You are getting to hot if you do that. You have the right set up but you might try A colder plug say A a8? It should stop that and if it doesn't you only wasted $5, but I think it will solve your problem. In the end just do the search there's a lot of info on here some good some bad and some like mine preferences.. Don't tune for temp its just not logical, read that stuff and you'll see what I mean.
