traxxas 3.3 and 2.5 size difference!
As some of you know I have aquired a Jato 2.5 to go with my Jato 3.3. Well I converted my 3.3 to the 2.5 and wow what a size difference in motors. I REALLY like the power and control of the 2.5. No more crazy wheelies although it will still do them when I want it to and the power is smooth adn controllable. Here are some pics of the motors and trucks. The 3.3 now sports a 2.5 , revo shocks and springs and rpm a arms front and rear. Next is a new resonator for the 2.5, different cooling head and chassis brace.

the only thing that wont slow you down is a starter box...starters rob rpms (up to 5000rpms!!!!) cuz its like turning another set of wheels, adding friction, therefore slowing you down. the bad thing bout a starter box is they arent very cheap, but i think an extra $50 and 10 wins is better than 10 last place finishes

The only thing the motor turns is the one way bearing for the ez start. The only advantage to losing the ez start is saving weight. Once it running it does not have that much friction. 5000 rpm's seems like alot of revs for a small brearing. There is more mass to the clutch, spur gear and tranny to notice any difference in the ez start.

Using a bump box gives you more power because you ditch the one way bearing. Xtreme rc mag did a article comparing pull start and bump and bump gives you a little more power but they said in off road cars you wont notice the diff from the loss of power. And only a very good on road driver could tell becasue its that little of a diff.
I siad ditch the easy start to save weight... and a pull start is not that bad.

There is no resistance on the bearing and no rotating mass unlike the flywheel. I cant see how it could take thousands of rpm's off. Thats a huge drop. If you put a pull start you still have a one way bearing. The flywheel for the motor will take alot more to move than it would to move the bearing. In real world driving your not going to notice the difference in speed. When I go to the track 1 out of maybe 15 people will have a bump box. The rest are pull starts. There is no advantage with getting a pull start over a ez start other than weight and when it comes to a pull start and bump box the weight is very minimal.
