Default Car refueling

Hi just a quicky,

Is it ok if i re-fuel the car while it is still running?

Or do i have to run the tank dry and re-fuel after the engine has cooled?

Thanks

you can refuel while running, just be careful not to spill it on the hot engine or the hot manifold/pipe

Believe when others and I are racing and pit we sure do not stop the engine. Normally when pitting you get fuel all over the vehicle as you grab the fuel bottle open the lid and squeeze just like any racing you want to be back on the track as soon as possible.

so you are trying to tell him its ok to pour fuel all over a hot engine and pipe?

A little fuel wont hurt, and to be honest the combustion is much hotter than what the engine temp is. Therefore it wont ignite like everybody is saying it will. Regardless, if your not in a race, take your time doing it and try not waste much. Afterall isn't the cheapest stuff, lol.

But 46 is right, in a race that stuff is just thrown in there. Throw the truck on the starter box, to get the wheels off the ground. The driver is reving the motor to keep it alive and you grab the zip tie, squeeze the crap out the fuel bottle until fuel flows over and throw the truck back out on the track.... its a rush.

i race 1/8 onroad, i know what happens when you refuel during a race but i wouldnt make it sound like its ok to do it, its not such a smart idea to pour fuel all over a hot engine and pipe, you never know, its not worth taking the chance if you dont have to.

Nitro fuel needs compression and heat to ignite. Although dont go dumping it on an open flame thats just silly.

I NEVER SAID TO POOR FUEL ALL OVER THE ENGINE GET REAL! But more then likely nothing would happen other then smoke! But being the exhaust is so close to the fuel tank on a buggy you get quite a bit on it. Yes the fuel we run is nowhere near as dangerous as GAS and takes a lot more to ignite it!

It wouldn't ignite, it'd just smoke and leave all sorts of hard to remove baked on brown crap on it!

Just so you all know the flash point for nitro fuels are 97 degrees. Not very high adn it does not need air to burn. On the other hand I have never heard of someones car or truck getting burned up because of a fuel spill. When you race you spill. I would not worry about fires.

Both Nitromethane and Methanol need oxygen or another oxidant to burn. Neither will burn underwater or in a vacuum. Nitrous Oxide however, does not, as when heated to 1600*C, it will release the oxygen needed to 'flash' due to the 'oxide' component of the compound.

Furthermore, the flash point (defined as the lowest temperature a substance will burn, WITH an ignition source) of nitromethane is 37*C, therefore, pure nitromethane cannot even be lit with a spark below this temperature. The flashpoint of our fuel is brought way down by the methanol content which has a flashpoint of 11*C, therefore, on a very cold day, you cannot ignite our fuel even with a spark. The temperature at which nitromethane will SELF-COMBUST (ie ignite without an ignition source) is a whopping 425*C. The same for pure methanol is only a slightly lower 385*C.

Depends on its container and how good the seal is on it.[&o] keep in a cool dry place could be a couple of years if no moisture gets to it

All so store it in a dark place climate controlled low humidity. I have keep fuel for as long as 1-½ years stored properly. If I have a bottle open with some of the fuel gone I squeeze the bottle to try and get as much of the air out as I can then put the cab on.

Well when your sponsor sends you 2 cases it takes a while to use it so you will have to store it for a little while anyhow.
