Well, i guess it got the best of me. I had a 16t trinity chrominum and an ESC laying here and a shop full of tools so i decided to try my luck at converting my Nitro Rustler to electric just to see how it was. I also miss a few things about my electric stampede i had that i traded to this nitro rustler. Sooo. I actually used a small electric box cover to make the motor mount. With the help of a drill, the plasma cutter, the vise, a tape measure and a grinder, I wound up with what i needed. Its still pretty crude, but i ran short on time tonight, so ill clean it up with the dremel later. Doesent look too bad for a total of 3 hours of work from start to actually driving the truck under electric power. Although its not exactly driveable how it is because i dont have the ESC or reciever mounted good. They are both shoehorned into the hole where i took the fuel tank out of. I just strapped the battery on the top of the plastic top plate at the front for now. It is geared 12/66 and top speed is probably 15mph. It could use a little taller gearing. Traction was kind of a problem with the battery mounted so far forward. Man she turns on a dime though, and that is the smoothest running drivetrain
Thats one thing i never liked about my electric stampede... The gears made lots of noise and it was hard to set the mesh on 48p gears. Now that im running 32p gears on this truck, man its smooooth as butter
So far i have only ran 1 1500nicd through it. I dont really have any good batteries, but i may buy some if i get this conversion a little nicer and really like it. Nothing is going to be permanent so that i can swap it back to nitro at any time. I didnt drill any holes in the frame or anything. Enough talking, now for the pictures! Let me know if any of you have any good ideas for mounting the battery, esc, etc... Oh, and sorry the pics arent the best.

I wouldnt mind to go brushless with mine, just dont have that kind of money right now.
I MIGHT try and race it at the LHS. He has a small indoor oval track, and I wouldnt mind trying my luck at it just for the heck of it. Im sure mine would be heavier and not as well setup as the rest, but I still wouldnt mind trying it in the 27t class. Id need a few good batteries for sure though. All I have is worn out 1500's.
I drove it in the house on the carpet a little today and it really gets with it taking off with how its geared. The gearing i have may be good for the track they have since its short.
I mainly converted it just for the heck of having it electric in case i wanted to not mess with nitro, or if i wanted to run without buying nitro fuel. The motor mount and everything seems to work great if i can just find a good way to mount the battery.

Oh noes, the nitro is gone! The conversion looks pretty good, I am thinking about trying to do something like this for the hell of it at some point ... but definitely on down the line. We still need to get together and bash sometime too. Hopefully after this 20 degree weather passes on by. Dang ground hogs!

Nah, its a real simple conversion back to nitro
Thats what i wanted, so that i could just swap out anytime i wanted. Basically, 5 bolts to get the motor and mount off the truck, then put the fuel tank chassis brace, and nitro motor back on and its good to go[8D]
We do still need to get together and run. My T-Maxx is down right now, but it wouldnt take a lot to get it fixed. Like you said though, its gonna have to warm up! haha This 20* weather is getting old fast! Once it warms up some out, this thing will probably be nitro again, but i always have the option of switching back and forth which is why i did it in the first place. You been running yours any Matt?

I have only run my truck like 3 or 4 times since I got it put together ... and I have yet to race it after getting the top on, painted and getting my last few upgrades installed! I would do it, but I just can't handle standing out in the cold when it is like 10 degrees with the wind chill factored in. It is supposed to be 60 this weekend, but rainy ... I mean, come on now ... this is just pathetic
I am going to Mexico in a few weeks, so hopefully by the time I get back it will be nice. I will definitely let you know when I start running for real again.
