I've finally got the time to play with the set up now that the season is over for us in D4. Early on I had some ignition problems and shelved the Syssa opting to practice instead of tinkering. Currently the Sysaa is residing in an old Ultra RC Evolution for breakin and learning. The plane weighs in at right around 11#. The motor is still breaking in with about 1 gal through it with dino at 40 to 1.
Last night I was able to get in 5 flights. That makes about 10 now. This is my 1st attempt at a gasser and it is a different animal.
There is a learning curve but following the cookbook worked out by a couple of the experienced pattern flyers things are a lot easier.
The motor is pulling at least as well as my OS160 and it is not broken in yet. It still has the characteristic squeak as you prop it through. With my friends Syssa, this went away after about 3gal and performance increased.
My plan is, I hope anyway, to install the Syssa in my son's Black Magic VF3. It is a large and draggy airframe that strained the OS160 in the verticles. I'll be flying it next year in my second season of Intermediate. I'll hopefully be able to get alot more fuel through it before the weather turns bad.

After break in, the most noticeable feel will be taking the prop through compression....you will not feel the drag that you have when the engine is new. The best way to describe is that the engine feels stiff when new; it is tight toleranced and has to loosen with running. 3 gallons is about right

I'm, running a home made soft mount without a nosering. The mount is probably too stiff and there is a lot of airframe noise. The cowl is pretty torn up from all the different engines installed in the airframe. Lots of different holes leaking noise. I am currently looking at why it is so hard to get fuel up to the carb. The choke plate just does not fit well enough to give a good seal. I have to put the"Grinder" on it to get it up and running the 1st start of the day. Then any subsequent engine starts have been one flip.
I am just trying to get as much fuel through the motor as I can before the weather goes. As of now,my plan is ,if evrything works out, to replace the OS160 with the Syssa in a big and draggy Black Magic VF3. I am thinking it has more guts than the OS. I really do like getting through a sequence on 3 oz. Do the math and I believe that is less than 15 cents.

I've been carrying Rick's airplanes out to the runway all year and my subjective impressions are that the Syssa pulls harder on the runup and it shakes a lot more than the OS 160 in his Brio. Of course, a lot of my impression of vibration may come from the remaining fragments of the cowl flapping and shaking, there's not much of it left. It does seem to pull the heavy Evolution with authority.

I am still undecided which pattern plane I am going to install my Syssa in. I wish their was an affordable (for me) arf with a pipe tunnel for it. I just saw that the Venus II is now discontinued and I am wondering if they have something in the works to replace it. Or, the 2M Orisis for 3dh.
So, far the only viable option for me is to buy a well used Black Magic frame only.
What other planes should I be considering?
