Can anyone tell me about the measurement of datum line of Eclipse fuselage, and how much about the incidence of stabilizer.

Thanks

Default Eclipse

I just had my first flight last Sunday. The incidents i have is zero. It was good set up for me, the airplane had a three point take off. No tail first and then take off. I'm not a very good pattern guy and i'm pretty new to this kind of airplanes, so take this in mind.

Hello isaac,

I’m also interested in the ECLIPSE, the ARF version and want to know your
setup on your plane. And tell us how it fly’s. (down line’s and trimming, mix??)

Thanks,

Default Setting of Eclipse

The fuse has dimples marked on it....These dimples are at Wing Leading edge, Trailing edge, and Stab Leading Edge and Trailing edge.

Easiest way is to set the Trailing edges on the dimple marks....Then start trimming from there.

I have flown a friends Eclipse with the wings set on the dimple locations and it is close.

My Eclipse is not flying as of yet...its getting a paint job this weekend. I stuck the wings on the dimples.....and then made sure both sides were the same.....The dimples are not 100% accurate and the one side is a little low... But I jig the model up on a flat table with the rudder 90 deg to the table...

Then I use a height gauge to set both wing and stab panels the same distance from the table....

There is no zero line marked on the fuse. Any choice of a zero line by a builder may not be the true zero line of the fuse....We are talking about 0.5 degs is a minor difference in fuse angle...but this minor amount of wing incidence is noticeable in flight. So a choice of "THIS" is zero will give me the same result as picking the designers location...it will have to move to meet my needs and goals.

Since the designer has way more experience with the model than I......I think he has my benefit of the doubt as to the proper angles......

So I took the designers wing incidence marks and used them...I have no idea whether they are zero or not...Don't care.

I'll fly it and in the trimming process I will learn if it needs more positive or or less positive in the wings and or stab. My guess is the designer's location is pretty close.

Just look for the dimples on the fuse.

Default Eclipse

My Eclipse is the ARF version and i have YS 140 DZ with Hatori pipe and header. The servos are Futaba digitals all around. The elevator has 2 mini digitals. The only problem that i'm having is the size of the tank. I have 16 oz tank and that is a very short flight because the DZ consumes 2.5 to 3 oz of fuel per minute. That gives me a very short flight, like 5 to 6 minutes top.
I couldn't fit a larger tank because of the canopy saddle. I'm trying to find a longer tank that will not exceed 2.25" in hight.
As far is the flight characteristic, excellent flying machine, i own Synergy by ZN line and it is definitely neck in neck in flying quality.
I have only a few flights on it so that is as much as i can tell you.
My incidents are all zero.

Hi isaac,

Thanks again for the info, but you didn’t say the weight of the plane.
And also what’s the torque of the 2 elevator servo, and the one’s on
the aileron??
And how are the down line’s whit that setup??
Any pics??

Thanks,

The weight is 10.70 LB. The aileron servos are 9151 digital and elevator are JR DS3421 65oz/in.

As far is the detail performance, i have to get back to you after i have a few more flights. I had two flights and the knife edge and rolls were excellent.

I set mine up pretty much as Troy did. Interesting reading about the differences in the dimples on the fuse sides. Thought it was just me. Put the left wing trailing edge on the dimple on the left side, zeroed that wing, then set up the other wing and stabs to zero with my incidence meter. I've ended up raising the wing trailing edge about a half degree and have decided to leave it there. With this setup uplines are just a hair of rudder to keep straight. My rudder/elevator mixes are 1.5 degrees up with left rudder, 1 degree down with right rudder. Put in a throttle/elevator mix for downlines, maybe 1/4 degree, hardly registers on throw meter.

Point rolls are easy, hardly have to touch the rudder. Downlines are perfectly straight. Have about 150 flights on it now. I like the way it flys. Plan on building another this winter. Will go with the kit this time.
