Default Lipo Chargers

Hi All,

My trusty old B5 Imax charger is due for replacement.
I have used this charger for more than 10 years and the good thing about it it charges lipo batteries straight from the balance port .....no other connection required
This is great because I can charge my Rx lipo batteries without having to take them out of the model.

I have done a bit of research and the new generation chargers do not have this function.......may be not genuine chargers .

Does anyone know of a good charger that is capable of charging Lipo straight from the balance port.

thank you in advance

Mavros

Not many of the newer more powerful chargers will do this. Probably fear of over powering the balance leads. The cellpro 10s would but this was dropped when the 10xp came out. Made an adapter for my rx packs and now I don't worry about it.

IIRC, Powerlab 8 and Powerlab 8x2 can charge via balance taps (current limited by XH connector) as well as the smaller Multi4s charger.

Yep, you can build an adapter for the CellPro 10XP and I have one. You must limit the charge rate to 4 amps if you do that to the CellPro or really any other charger. Lots of Pattern guys around here including me, still use the 10XP as it's one of the few chargers that'll do 10S batteries for the motor. For my rx batteries I just use on of the Multi 4S charger with a servo connector type lead and all my rx batteries have that type lead with balance capability.

1+ for the Cellpro 10XP

I have recently started using it with the MPA and its amazing. I can charge six 5s 4950mAh packs in just over an hour. However, if I had to buy another charger I would most likely get the PL8.

Why would you want to charge through the balance leads??? I would also assume that you are looking for one with a built in small power supply to you can just plug it into an outlet?

Most batteries with "factory" type charge/balance leads, the balance plug wiring is short. Then you have to disconnect the main battery output to charge them so you have two connections you have to make and that's kind of silly in my estimation as the rx packs are so small. It also allows me to put the rx packs wherever I want and still be able to charge them because you can use up to a single 36" charge lead.

Now mind you; I do NOT do this with LiPo packs but virtually all of my models have two cell A123's for rx packs so removing them from the model to charge isn't necessary.

+1

Using a switch with the built in charge jack eases the charging process AND no need to make a goofy charging adapter like you need to with a charger that won't charge through the balance port.
