Hi Folks
Does anyone have any experience of this engine and how well it stacks up against the OS140RX and the Webra 145 Aero X.
Thinking of buying one and I want to know if it is as good as it looks.
Plus it has one bloody attractive price.

Hi Mike,
I'm quite familiar witht the Webra 1.45 Aero X (standard carb.) and the Mintor 140. I won the 2002 Precision Aerobatic Advanced nats flying the Webra 1.45 Aero X, and switched to the Mintor for the 2003 Masters season.
Webra 1.45 Aero X (standard carb): Great engine that does not seem to be effected by outside temperature changes too much. Always idles well. Plenty of power. Pipe settings, carburation, & pump is tricky to get set right. For instance, if the midrange was not set somewhat rich, inverted pushes while adding power would create a loud "pop" sound from the engine. However, never had any reliability issues, only one deadsticck in 14 contests last season (I set idle too low for spin entry).
Mintor 140: Ticks & Tocks like a Rolex. Awesome throttle response, about the same power as the Webra. Does seem to be effected by daily condition changes more than the Webra. Less finicky on pipe dimensions.
I've had good luck with both, but overall throttling wins me over for the Mintor.

Hi, Mike,
I think I have found the right person.
I have a new Mintor 140 on my bench and I am going to put in on one of my 2 meters ship.
Could you tell me something more about the run in time and requirement to make that baby smooth?
Would also like to know the pipe, needle setting,...etc. I am prepare to use the Mintor carbon pipe with their standard aluminium header.
You have mentioned that Mintor was quite sensitive to waether. Does it mean that you have to fine tune the needle everytime?
What is the usual setting of the needle?
What is the fuel you are using?
Thanks in advance.

Use two OSA5 plugs. Full length header, Mintor pipe. I use 15% Cool Power. My 140 ran awesome right from the start. If you particular motor does not want to throttle up, then take the slow break-in approach outlined by Doug. Mine was running so well by the end of the second tank, that further ground running just seemed pointless. Start with the high speed needle two turns out.
