I forgot to mention, Hyde type A mount, no nose ring. Were using them in all our ECLIPSES and no problems.

I am a little confused about what you said about air blowing your canopy out.

Looking at my model I have cut-out the section inside the engine bay which will have the exhaust pipe going through it. I lined this area between the engine bay and the first undercarriage former with light 1/16th balsa. Then you have the pipe floor on the otherside of the second former provided. There shouldnt be any access points between the engine bay and the inside of the fuse.

As for the CG with a DZ up front does the model balance on the tube if you install elevator servos in the tailplane?

I see you have already solved the airflow problem. I had not put anything between the firewall and the first gear former. Common sense told me that was a mistake but I had to see for myself. Now I know for sure. Yes it will balance on the tube with 3421s in the tail and the DZ upfront. I had to mount the battery at the rear of the LG main brace. and rudder servo in front of the rear wing anti rotation tube. I flew it 5 flights today, 8 rokunds of Intermediate and Dan Curtis flew it one wring out and trim check flight. Only comment other than WOW was some push to the belly in knife edge with both left and right rudder. Trimmed for this with the Trans. 10X. It is a fine flying machine, and I'd recommend it to all. It is the lightest pattern plane I've flown, and it flies like it. I will put it like this, It flies a lot like my Eclipse, and it wont replace my Eclipse, but it's a great backup plane.

This past weekend I was at a fly-in here in Denmark where Bernd Beschorner (TOC competitor) and Manfred Greve Jr. were present. Manfred brought his completely new Impact powered by an electric motor....!! He finished the model in 3 (three) days, and the all up flying weight with a Plettenberg "outrunner" motor and Kokam 10S3P 6000mAh battery pack is 4600grams. Weight of the battery pack is 1400grams. The outrunners seem to be the new trend, as opposed to the more noisy geared motors such as the Hacker used by Jason and Tony F.

Manfred recently made a test for the German magazine FMT of the most popular electric motors for F3A, and the result was quite interesting when measuring the noise @ 3meters...

Hacker (geared, spur (straight) gears): 93dB
Lehner (geared, helical gears): 89dB
Torcman (outrunner): 88dB
Plettenberg (outrunner): 88dB

Ohhh, and Bernd flew his new Delro 42% Ultimate, beautiful!!!!!

Some quick answers to your questions:

Motor is a Plettenberg Extra 25-13. I was told that the power output running the 10S3P Li-Po pack is 2.2kW, this is approx. 3HP.

The flying qualities of the Impact seemed very nice. I only saw Bernd Beschorner fly it, and needless to say it looked extremely smooth in the hands of one of the worlds best F3A pilots. He flew the F-05 schedule, and the rolling circles and rolling loops were a thing of beauty. By the way this was the first time he flew the model, but I guess this tells more about the abilities of the pilot than the model....

The power of the motor seemed more that adequate, and I guess 3HP for a 4.6kg model is more than adequate. Also the 18" prop is a bit more effective than the 16" and 17" used by the 140-160 2-strokes.

First of all however it amazes me to see the slow flight performance of the electric pattern models. I saw the same when Jason flew in Poland, and it really gives the impression that the pilot has all the time in the world to make the required corrections. Also the braking down wards is phenomenal, there is no doubt in my mind that we will see a boom in electrics in the years to come. Wolfgang Matt has also made the switch, so it must be working... However the price and maintenance of the batteries should go down a bit more before we have the perfect solution.

Anybody order one lately? What's the delivery date? I've run out of pattern planes.

I ordered mine May 11 and was supposed to be on the June 4 shippment. I got an email around June 7 that ooops, my plane was not due in now until July 9. One good thing might be is they may have some setup instructions with the July shippment.

Well, I got an email today saying the container has hit the states and that my plane should ship late next week. Yipee!

Wow is all that can be said. I picked up my Impact today. Beautiful work and light. My Mintor 170 should haul it around like a rag doll.

Yep, I think another first accured at this years nats. In masters two electrics up at the same time, martin mathews focus, and Jerry bud flying an electric partner.

All three electrics there this year were interesting.

Sure thing mups. I am going to be working on it this weekend. Weighing the parts, the plane should come in no heavier then 9.75 lbs.
