Right now I am working on the position of the CG. I found that the factory setting was to tail heavy. The plane just didn't like to settle in and groove. I have moved the CG forward and the plane is getting more and more solid. It is getting that really nice locked in feeling. You come out of a manuver and set the attitude of the plane now and it continues on that line. I will keep on moving the CG more forward until I find it is to far then I will back it off. If you have any more questions I will be happy to help where I can. As for pictures I have some comming.

Anyone convert the Impact to electric? I am thinking of doing this as the model is a reasonable price for the finished kit. I too, would like more data on how the plane if flying and what CLASS you fly. As we all know, as the CG goes forward the snaps / rolls become harder to do well, but the stall turn / tracking are easier. Perhaps the CG on the plans indicate where an FAI flyers would like it, but maybe not a Advanced flyer would want it?
Looking forward to more inputs.
Thanks
Scott

Hi Scott,
look back to page 2 and 3, there's info on Bernd Beschorners electrified Impact from Germany. [sm=thumbup.gif]
As for the CG, it's truly a matter of personal preference and competition level, as you say. It is well possible that non-FAI pilots want the CG moved forward for better stability and tracking.

Thanks Fabrizio, I have reviewed this in detail.. even though in German, the pictures are very good. Was looking for others in the US that have converted and any comments.
Thanks

can you get the impact in the shulman scheme? I wonder how a mintor 1.70 would work in this model or is it setup for a particular motor? I am looking to get back into pattern and the impact is a good looking plane.

Flyingrazrback,
I am running a mintor 170 with the new Mintor aluminum pipe. If you look back towards the begining of the thread you will find I posted a bunch of threads on the things that I found during the setup. If you do decide to go the Mintor 170 route make sure you get the 60 degree rise header.

Has anyone used the hatch pins in there assembly of the Impact? Im curious how well they work.
My Rev Pro uses the plastic screws and slots which retains the belly pan and works well just curious about the spring loaded latches they provide.
Thanks
Brian

I received it Monday. It arrived in the September shipment. Its excellent workmanship. The white/red version. They still arent printing the instructions for inclusion in the kit though, so Im referencing the German website above and the online instructions. Should be around 10 lbs w/ 2 stroke engine and a lite battery.

Hey! Thanks for the reply. I should get mine, I suppose, around this time in November. Thanks for the reminder about the German website -- I hope it doesn't go away until I'm done! Is there a link to the online instructions at composite-arf's site?
Good luck with yours -- 10 lbs is a good weight for ships this size. You're living in Indy now aren't you? Where do people fly in that area? I fly in there (IND) twice a year (Thanksgiving and Memorial Day weekend) to drive south to visit my Dad. It would be interesting to see some pattern flying down there.
Thanks,
Tom

Based on the informtion in this forum there has been a lot of discussion where to set the stab and wing. After flying the plane has anyone come up with a good point to set the wing and stab where you never have to touch once you set it up?

Did anybody ever respond to byoung466's question about using hatch pins? (I didn't mean to derail his question with my own about delivery time) and since I will be working on one in a month I would like to know also. Having seen planes lose canopies (none from Impacts) in the past, I'm a little leery of the idea of not using screws to hold anything on these vibrating and gyrating beasts we call pattern planes.
Thanks,
Tom

I have sent an e-mail to comp-arf asking what gasoline engine has been fitted to this plane. No reply yet but will let you all know what they say. Any recent flight reports?
