Default dingo power

Hi guys,

I wanted to know what kind of props, fuel and rpm you are getting with your dingos? Also, how many gallons did it take to reach "full" power?

I am running Coolpower 30 with a hatori header and 698 pipe. This combo turns at about 8.2k which does not seem any different to what I was getting with my L.

Any comments suggestions and specs would be interesting.

thanks,

James

My dingo is fed with coolpower 30%, the same Header and Pipe as yours, turnning APC 15.5X12w at 8.6K. This combo has been tried on my Limited, only 7.6K colud be reached.
2 gallons fuel was consumed to reach this performance from break-in.
Hope this may be helpful.

140DZ: Coolpower 30% heli, APC 16.5x12w, with carb intake restrictor and an air filter on top -- 8400 rpm. My experience is that the engine reached full power on the very first flight, and it has not changed up or down from there.

gents,

your figures tie up with what I would expect to see - on a 16x12 standard apc prop, no restrictor, I would expect around 8.6-8.7k.

The engine has had a couple of gallons through it now so from what you are saying it should be producing pretty much its peak power.

Next question, anyone have any ideas as to why I am 4-500rpm down? I am using it at only about 400ft asl so it's not like altitude is going to knock a few hundred rpm off. I appreciate that without having the setup in front of you it is hard to diagnose any problems, but I am using what is essentially a standard model/engine set-up (it is fitted in my ZN Alliance). It does not appear to be overheating - indeed, ground running it with the cowling off does not make any difference. I have the CFE filter on but it is quite a coarse mesh so shouldn't have too much if any affect on the intake airflow.

Any suggestions as to the kind of thing I should consider would be useful.

thanks,

James

A little off topic here, but has anyone used the Power Master DZ Blend? Any comments?

I experienced a loss of about 300 RPM when using an intake filter on both the DZ and L. I would suggest you try it without. It does change the mixture and will require resetting the needle.

James,

I am using your setup exactly in my Alliance including the 16X12 APC

My engine has only just returned from a holiday in Japan where they fixed it under warranty after the second cam failure. This setup produced 8700 -8800 rpm with restrictor in place.

The model is certainly very lively with this power plant. The DZ engine is not a high revving engine. What I am trying to say is smaller props wont necessary yield higher RPM. There is a point were RPM remain the same. I found the 16 x 12 to be a good setup. The 16.5 x 12 W works very well in calm conditions on a model which weighs under 4.6-7 Kg.

If your getting only 8.1K on this prop you do have a problem. If it has done a bit of work try replacing the ring.

My setup is

1 3/4 turn on the high
Approx 1 turn in from flush on pump
16 X 12 APC
restrictor
Coolpower 30% LV
OSF
Hatori header with 698 pipe

Another thing on DZ's they like the rockers fairly tight..IF they are loose will really drop rpms..Found this out the hard way..Also what was stated before in a setup list, make sure your pump is close to flush as well. Charlie

Hi James,

my Dingo with PowerMaster %20 nitro (low visco oil of course ) & 16.5 X 12 W apc prop & hatori header + 698 pipe+ without restrictor !!! ; turns between 8.45k - 8.55k at 3000 ft. from sea level... For break-in 1 - 1.5 galoons of fuel is O.K. If you'll try to fly soo rich ; you will have dead stick landings like me[sm=punching.gif]...This engine did not like to run soo rich , be carefull [sm=thumbup.gif]

Happy Landings

guys,

thanks very much for the help and advice. First I tightened up the valve clearances - this increased my 8.2k to 8.4k. Then I took off the CFE filter and this pushed it up to 8.6k.

That extra 400 rpm makes a huge difference! Plane flies better now than ever. Many thanks.

James
